As a previous children’s librarian, I echo so many of these recommendations! I miss doing read-a-louds so much! 💛

Okay, I wanna add some of my favorites, too! ☺️ Pete the Cat (especially the groovy buttons!), Dog’s Colorful Day, I Want A Dog, The Magical Yet, The Girl and the Dinosaur, Something’s Wrong, Bird Hugs, Ruby Finds A Worry, The Book Hog, The Secret Life of Squirrels books, The Book with No Pictures, Once Upon a Goat, Snappsy the Alligator, Julia’s House for Lost Creatures, Little Excavator, Good Night Good Night Construction Site, and The Little Blue Truck books. I also adore the “How to Catch a” books and the Bear books (like Bear Feels Sick, Bear Says Thanks, etc.)! Oh, and in the same vein as Elephant & Piggie, Narwhal and Jelly is fantastic as well! Gosh I know there are so many more I’m forgetting but I think that’s plenty for now. 🙈😆

I teach 4-5 year olds. Mo Willems is the most popular author I read with my students. Fits so well into our social-emotional curriculum. Love using elephant and piggie books as a way to discuss story set-up, speech bubbles, thought bubbles, what the font type or size means, how the author color codes the bubbles to show who is speaking, and of course finding the hidden pigeon on the end papers. Hair Love was also a new favorite among my kiddos.

Thank you Hannah for making this video!! As a mom of a second grader I’m so happy for the suggestions of good books to read to our children! I absolutely adored the invisible boy I was crying at the beginning reading it to my son it was such a good book for children! I’m placing these all on hold with my son’s library card so I can read them all to him!!🩷☺️

I wish every child on the planet had a first grade teacher like you! Yes, reading to our children is important. We couldn’t afford all the books when I was tiny, so mom walked me over to our beautiful Corryville public library. It was built with funds from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation. The outside looks like a jewelry box. The books inside are all the colorful jewels. Going to the library was always a special event. And Mom didn’t have to read the same books to me for months on end. Although I do remember a few of our favorites were gifted to me by family members on special holidays. (Yes, I’m a big supporter of our public libraries even now. I know there must be little ones who will benefit from this valuable resource!)
Hannah, what is it about you that makes me think of all the wonderful memories in my life? Keep it up, girl. You are very special. ❤

One of my favorite picture books is "The story of the little mole" by Werner Holzwarth. It is hilarious. I don't know how the English version is but the Swedish one is absolutely wonderful. A classic.

I loved this picture book suggestions video Hannah! Such a fun idea. Elephant & Piggie are great 🐷🐘 Piranhas Don't Eat Bananas by Aaron Blabey is hilarious!! Especially if you can manage an Australian accent. And some other funny ones I enjoy are: Counting to Bananas by Carrie Tillotson, Llama Unleashes the Alpacalypse by Jonathan Stutzman, & Fluffy McWhiskers Cuteness Explosion by Stephen W. Martin. A newer children's book author I enjoy is Ruth Ohi & one that I enjoyed as a child is Nancy Carlson.

The best time when I was in school was when our teacher read to us children. I believe I was about 12 then. Before that nobody had ever read a book to me - not that I can remember anyway.

We LOVE Mo Willems! My 5 year old requests his books almost daily. He is one of our two favorite authors, the other being Keiko Kasza. She is FANTASTIC.
We adore Bruce books too 🤩
Side note: my boys are snarky and sarcastic (not unlike their mother), so when the pigeon asks to drive the bus or not take a bath, they agree with him and make the book not make sense 🤣
