A few months ago, I was invited to visit Busan to explore the world of medical tourism, and this is the result. Growing up in San Diego, California, all I knew of medical tourism was going across the border to go to the dentist in Mexico, but when I moved to Korea I learned that the industry is so much bigger than I could have imagined. I know most medical tourism tends to relate to plastic surgery, but I hope this video sheds light on other procedures. Especially people from the US, where getting simple things like check-ups can be outrageously expensive without (or even with!) insurance, perhaps consider on your next trip stopping in to get your teeth cleaned or your eyes examined. It takes about the same time as it would stopping into a cafe or gallery - and your body will thank you!
It's the end of summer so I especially want to remind my pale people to PLEASE go see a dermatologist for a skin cancer check-up. If you're naturally pale and have freckles and are at least 20 years old, please go check. In Busan, these services are really affordable and can literally save your life. My dear friend almost didn't catch her skin cancer in time because she put it off due to her not-awesome insurance. She was 25. Please please get your check-ups no matter how healthy you feel and take advantage of Busan's high quality and affordable medical care!! You're worth it!
