    I’ve been on RUclips for the past 3 years and this is the first video I’ve ever planned, filmed and edited in one day. It’s a Saturday and I got up at 6am to do all of this! Hoping people find it useful and are able to apply as it closes in 3 days!
    Link to apply- apm.shopify.com
    Good luck! 🥰

      Thank You, Tobi, for the video. I sent you a message on IG, on LinkedIn and email for a referral. The video gave me an insight as well.

    Hi there, great video. Were you switching careers when you initially applied? You mention displaying leadership skills. Does this apply to someone doesn’t have management experience?

    • @TobiDerin
      @TobiDerin  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I was switching careers when I initially applied.
      Not management experience, but showing examples of you leading a group. e.g:
      -if you’re a new grad, you might have been the lead of your capstone project. You can highlight that in your resume
      -Leadership position in organizations/clubs/volunteer work
      -Even as a career transitioner, you’ll likely have examples of you leading team without the management title

    Thank you for sharing your experience and tips! :) I have a couple of questions: Do you think it's better to include a portfolio or not in the application regardless of the projects? What was the timeline like after submitting the application (i.e notification for the first interview and so on)? And how did you approach preparing for the interviews (resources or concepts you reviewed)?

    • @TobiDerin
      @TobiDerin  8 месяцев назад +1

      1) You should definitely include a portfolio if you have one. Show your awesome work! Note that this isn’t necessary tho, so if you have one that you’re proud of, then it doesn’t hurt to include it.
      2) I don’t exactly recall timelines since mine was 1 yr + ago, but I know the cohort start date is April 1, which is close. They’ll also communicate timelines with you as you progress.
      3) re:interview. I have resources in my description box.

    What’s the difference between Product owner and product manager?

    • @TobiDerin
      @TobiDerin  8 месяцев назад

      This article does a good job at summarizing it - www.productplan.com/learn/product-manager-vs-product-owner/
      Tl:dr - product management requires more strategic thinking while product owner is more tactical.

    Hi Tobi,
    Really insightful video and it seems like you are a genuine people person, Which is Awesome! Currently, I am a Data Analyst and have been wanting to break into PM. I'm eyeing the Shopify APM role that opened up and would love to hear about your journey more in-depth, I've dropped a request on your LinkedIn. Would you be open to a quick chat?
    If you're up for it, a peek at my resume would be awesome too - keen to see if my skills could fit.

      I applied with a referral for my first, didn’t get to the interview stage.
      Didn’t use a referral for my second application and got it, so perhaps the application itself is what matters and referral may not be as important as people make it seem.

      @@boluoresegun4713 things are subject to change, but with most global companies, pay is based on the country you’re in. Thank you for taking the time to make this informative and inspiring application Tobi. I stumbled across your LinkedIn profile and I’m grateful! Definitely going to apply. The only thing I’m torn on is non-technical vs technical (which I have data analyst experience) 🤞🏽

    • @TobiDerin
      @TobiDerin  8 месяцев назад +1

      Glad you found it useful!
      Oh, that can be tricky. Do you think you’ll cover most of the things listed under technical with your data analyst experience? like “Willing to sharpen your technical skills and dive deep into technical concepts
      / In lieu of formal technical training, you have built something cool from scratch”
      If you’re somewhat confident that your application will be strong compared to others, then you can go for it. By others, I mean software developers as I’d assume most technical track applications will be from software developers.
      I’d apply for whichever I feel the most confident in. I think both tracks will be competitive.

    • @VictoriaWElise
      @VictoriaWElise 8 месяцев назад

      @@TobiDerin yes I think I definitely have more experience do the technical application. I was just curious as to what attributes might stand out if I went for non-technical. Thank you so much
