Yeah, I don't know how you didn't notice on Tristan's playthrough, but castles are, realistically, broken as hell. It's basically a deathtrap if you use it right, which the AI can't compete with actual strategy during sieges. I've never had a castle or city taken from me since I took the first one and learned that, even extremely outnumbered, a castle is game changer.
When I hear Koifish yell "ojojojojjj!" I just imagine a Mongolian man hitting his knee against the edge of a table and then yelling in pain "ojojojojjj!"
Somehow, the idea of playing as a steppe raider, leading an army of horse archers and heavy shock lancers, seems like a perfect fit for this playstyle. Basically, since everyone in the band is mounted and has a bow on their back, they can just kite and flee from any strong army, then wheel back and charge then once they retreat.
I vote you slay lords as fast and as often as you can, and slowly entire clans will die off, leaving castles lordless and ready for taking. Start with the Khuzait, then probably the Sturgians, then I'd say Eastern Empire cause anything else will inevitably involve having to break sieges across the map, maybe even failing to arrive in time. Just imagine the border of your kingdom as the frontlines, you want to keep pushing through instead of trying to get around.
This is a very surreal moment, being first, or close to it at least. I shall savor this as much as Koiboi savours frequent discussions about purses and belongings with the peasantry of Calradia First, or something close. Within the first few hundred, at least

Koifish my man, if you're playing as a bandit I cannot recommend highly enough the virtues of an all-mounted army. Around 50% melee cavalry, and 50% mounted archers. In battle, set the mounted archers to charge, and the melee cavalry to follow you. It's obnoxiously powerful and you get a big bonus to map movement speed (which you can boost further by looting horses and keeping them in your inventory!)
A toast to Randall the true bandit king, may he pillage and plunder for as long as he’s able and may he thwart as many betrayal attempts as he can. It’s been emotional.

Historically accurate too
As it was in history. The only good way to take a castle is to starve them out. And even that isn't for sure
IA is not capable to defend properly.
Yeah I've done 250-300 v 1200 and easily won defending castle/cities. Defending is one of my favorite things to do on the game.
Good thing too since you can't recruit as fast as the AI can so you need a way to counter them.

Deploy your spear men around your archers on any raised bit of ground and you'll be better vs cavalry.
