    Concrete posts are more useful than Facebook posts haha! I'd say there isn't enough of a reason to pack dirt around it until the concrete has set up. You can use a couple of boards to stabilize it during the pour, then backfill once it hardens. Keep up the good work!

    It's a little late now, but with a plate like that, you can leave it up out of the concrete enough to have the bottom nuts exposed, then you can use those nuts to fine tune your level over time. They do that with metal traffic light poles and other large structures.
    I agree with the comment about using the two part foam for the mailbox install. You won't be disappointed if you try it out.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  2 года назад +2

      That sounds like a good idea. The instructions said to set the lower nuts in concrete but there would definitely be an advantage to leaving them exposed
      I’m thinking I will use the foam on the mailbox

      @@RockhillfarmYT If you do use foam use the Fast2k brand and not the Sika. Tony's Tractor Adventure did a video showing the difference and the differences are huge. We used Sika on some fence posts at home and they started wobbling when it shrank. The fast2k is a lot more dense and solid.

    Nicely done Brock! Never used one yet... but then again haven't really had an opportunity to. I'm going to have to replace a bunch of fence posts this year... might have to invest in an auger for the tractor. Getting too old to dig them by hand... lol.

    Good job. I think I would’ve taken the level and pushed it against the front two bolts and I measured from the ends of the level to the driveway just to make it easier to confirm it was parallel with the driveway. So instead of measuring to the driveway when you’re only 12 inches apart it would’ve been about 4 feet apart with a 4’ level.

    Those bolts in that plate look to be awfully close to the outside edge of the concrete, like the plate was meant for a 2" to 4" larger diameter sonotube (which you likely can't find it a big box store). Hard to tell that for sure though on the video (I don't like leaving a negative comment), Hopefully I didn't see things correctly. The backhoe worked really well for that hole though 👍

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  2 года назад +2

      That’s not a negative comment.. Pointing out something I miss is always welcome. The whole idea is learning
      The instructions called for a 16 inch diameter hole.
      The two back anchors are quite a ways from the outside edge but honestly the front ones are pretty close. Luckily the anchors are L-shaped on the bottom and the L points towards the middle so should be OK but not ideal

      In all honesty if your yard puddles anywhere along your fenceline a sonos tube would be bennificial also it would prevent rotting of the process of rot to the post . Typically 2" above grade . Other than that i dig and set with no tubes on 90% of holes dug.

  • @kdegraa
    @kdegraa 2 года назад

    If a load bearing post for a shed needed to be set, do you think these tubes could be used to set the foundation for the post’s anchor points?

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  2 года назад +1

      Yes, they are used in construction but they just use larger diameter tubes if they are holding more weight

  • @medjoolmaker
    @medjoolmaker 2 года назад +1

    Stupid question…. Why not install mounting plate on edge of driveway concrete and not install the tube/digging etc… ?

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  2 года назад +2

      Probably possible depending on how thick the concrete is on my driveway. The hardware they send you to mount it with has those L-shaped rods about 16 inches long.
      The basketball goal is really heavy and the backboard is like a sail, so if you were putting it into existing concrete you would want some really heavy duty anchors
      Actually as I’m typing the response, I don’t think I would want it that far forward on the driveway. The goal sticks out 3 feet from the post and can be lowered down below 7 feet so it would kind of be an obstruction to the garage
      Thanks for watching

      @@RockhillfarmYT my 2022 3046R with deluxe cab is being delivered this week with the 375A backhoe and a 12 and a 24 inch bucket. It’ll have a 72 inch loader bucket, box blade, landscape rake and pallet forks. If you can’t tell I’m kind of excited about getting it.
      But this morning I was using my brother-in-law‘s excavator remove a large 40’x40’ patio from my backyard and while it’s a bigger excavator it has a hydraulic thumb on it that made removing the 8 inch thick cement super easy. Can not stress this enough, with a metal fence post, do not use sonotubes. It does literally nothing and actually makes the concrete less effective. You want the outside of the concrete to be rough and bell out at the bottom so it doesn't lift during the freeze. Sono tubes for wood? Yes but metal? Complete waste of time
