Top 3 Warning Signs You Have Mice In Your House

Mice issues tend to be seasonal, with winter and fall being the worst, but mice issues can still happen all year. In this post we cover the top 3 warning signs you have mice in your home.
Look for mouse droppings and smell of urine
If you suspect that you may have mice in your home, the first thing to look for is going to be droppings from these pests. The droppings may be out in the open, but also could be hiding under appliances, in food storage areas, or near water sources.
Mouse droppings can appear very similar to grains of rice, but they can vary in color from black, to brown, and if it’s very old, even gray. The size of these droppings can range from anywhere from 3/16th of an inch up to 1/4th of an inch in length.
It is also a possibility you have a rat issue in your home as well if you are finding droppings, but their droppings are similar but much larger in size. Often these mouse droppings don’t smell, but mice can leave anywhere from 50-75 pellets a day around your home.
When you find mouse droppings be careful while handling them and use gloves as these droppings can carry a lot of harmful bacteria and diseases. Also avoid sweeping them up or vacuuming them up as that could also spread the bacteria around your home.
On top of that mice will also urinate around your home. Unfortunately mouse urine does often smell very bad. Mice will urinate in places similar to where you may find droppings, but they can also urinate between your walls and in other hidden areas of your home.
Mouse urine has a strong ammonia smell, and typically if you are smelling mouse urine around your home, there is usually more than one mouse to blame.
Look for gnaw marks and holes
Mice are known for gnawing and chewing on a variety of things throughout your home. Mice often will chew on things like walls, wood furniture, and even wires in your home.
This could lead to very dangerous issues hidden in your walls. Frayed wires can be a major cause of fires in your home, so getting rid of mice before that happens is very important.
Mice also can chew holes in your walls in order to get to hidden places where they can build their nests. In addition to these gnaw marks and holes you may find damaged or shredded papers, cardboard, clothing, or other similar materials around your home.
Mice and rodents like to build their nests from these soft materials, and when you find these things damaged around your home it could be a clear sign that there are mice in your home.
Listen for scampering and gnawing noises
Hearing the pitter-patter of little feet are great when they are from your kids or grand kids, but hearing them from mice is another story. This is another common warning sign you have mice in your home.
Mice are very skittish, and tend to hide out of sight when humans are around, but you’ll often hear them before you see them. Since mice like to hide, you might hear these noises more actively during the night or coming from odd places around your home.
Mice will often hide in walls and attics away from humans, so you might hear scampering and gnawing noises coming from your walls. As we stated above mice like to gnaw and scratch and chew things around your home so you might hear that as well before you see an actual mouse.
As a means of prevention for mice in your home we recommend sealing off entry points, sealing food sources, and proper sanitation. Eliminating mice getting in to begin with and reducing or eliminating food sources can keep mice out of your home.
However, once there is a mouse issue in your home, it can be very difficult to get rid of on your own. Mice breed incredibly fast and one or two mice can quickly turn into dozens. Trapping and removing mice can be a challenge as well, so if you do find you have mice in your home, we recommend reaching out to a pest control service to eliminate the issue before it gets out of hand.

I heard squeaking... HELP ME BEFORE I SLEEP!
I woke up this morning at 3:00 AM and went into the living room. (My room had a heater on all night and was roasting me.) Immediately, I start hearing a creaking noise by the refrigerator. I got paranoid and became to scared to move. I stayed still for a bit longer... and heard chewing.. yeah, chewing... I got up and heard scurrying across the floor, then it was gone. The same thing happened again within 5 minutes, and now I’m watching this video while the refrigerator is creaking. I don’t know what he is chewing, or if he even lives behind the fridge, but the chewing noise was like the sound of chewing on an apple. It reminded me of my gerbils which died last year, and that’s why I got paranoid. Then, I went to investigate, and there was a coke box, by the fridge, with CHEW marks on it. So now, I for sure know that it is a rodent of some sort.

I heard something in my attic for 6 months before I saw them ! Thought it was a squirrel 🐿! It was mice ! I bought $100 worth of dcon poisen ! Sticky traps ! And snap traps ! Left the house for 4 days ! Came back ! Sealed up holes and entry points in my house and outside with mortar and steel wool 🏡 it helped ! Be obsessive when trying to kill them ! It’s never just 1 or 2 or 3 ! It’s a tribe ! After 4 days no attic noise !

That sounds stressful! Mice in walls can be tricky-sealing entry points and using traps near their pathways can help. Stay persistent!
I hear tiny snoring in my wall (not buzzing). It sounds like the noise a guinea pig makes when uncomfortable. When I bang on the wall, it just keeps making the noise.
I would like to say that I been dealing with a mouse infestation ever since pandemic has started and my parents bought traps ever since and the traps did not work sadly. They didn't reach out to an exterminator. They don't put effort at all lol. Today earlier I literally saw a mouse on top of my old chair.. I told my mom about it and she did nothing. What else can I do to get rid of mice or any other pests for good? It's disappointing having to live in conditions like this I'm so tired of this bull shit.

My room is next to the attic, and during the last few nights I've heard scratching sounds on the wall. I've had a rat problem before, but this sounds a bit different. Whatever it was sounds like it has claws, so I'm guessing maybe a racoon. But then again rats also tend to gnaw through things. Any suggestions?

I've caught 2 on sticky traps under my stove recently. I live in a 1st floor apartment next to the woods. I could hear them in the walls scratching. My maintenance staff looked at me like I was crazy when I told them...

I found a moderately signed hole in one of my kitchen ground cabinets and later I found a half eaten apple with what looks like mouse bites. I think we might have just a few mice roaming around in the foundation of the mouse idk. No droppings or anything, so they aren’t in the home but like I’m scared it’s gonna get worse. Hopefully we can get it taken care of especially since we want to sell our house soon.
I have them in my attic. I think I have a squirrel too, damn thing scratches like freddy Kruger! Also hear knocking sounds up there too. I narrowed it down to a ghost, yetti, 1,000 mice or a squirrel with 1,000 mice buddies. Poison, glue and cage traps have been set. Lots of poison gone after one night, hopefully the knocking sound is mice falling dead. Also they used loose fill insulation and I can't see anything but pink snow on the floor so I can't see much droppings or signs of what's going on.

I occasionally hear something run real fast in wall between my living room and office. And it’s random, and not daily. It’s only a second or two and it sounds like something is bolting through the house. I’ll bang on wall, but I won’t hear it anymore. It’s usually in afternoon. I have no visible droppings, and no weird smells. I have sealed as many points as I can find. There is steel wool in old holes, and also sealants. All food is in containers, nothing is loose. It freaks me out when I hear it
Yes I have same issue bud, but I’m on top floor of an apartment. I had pest control out today and they think it’s rats climbing up the cavity to the roof for warmth and safety. Then back down at night to feed again. I only year it early in the morning really.

Omg in my old apartment i used to hear them in the walls, theyd crawl in my sons toy box, one chewed the wire to my stereo speaker cord , theyd leave poop all behind my microwave , always running behind the stove....and no matter how many times a exterminator came theyd still re appear the very same night. i heard a weird scratching noise in the middle of the night so i got up to investigate and woke up my parents and we found not just, not just 2, but 14 mice roaming around. Over the next week we caught another 9 more mice and even a possum in our mice traps.

you must obliterate them all at all costs. use a trap that kills mice, cuz grey ones are adapted to live in houses. Those are house mice, get traos. if that doesnt work, call pest control.

New floors throughout, countertops, etc. I clean behind the stove regularly and I just saw a nest under there and I’m terrified of mice. It can’t be an infestation bc it’s only a few little poops and only behind the stove. 😅 and I just had our pest control guy out yesterday to spray the yard and foundation for bugs. They left me a couple traps for bugs. Looks like I’m gonna be calling them back out once I run a test on this single mouse theory

I hear scampering in my walls from time to time, but it sounds huge, like a rat or squirrel. I did lay glue traps as a litmus test for bugs & ended up catching a mouse after 2 months. Don't know where it came from as I literally have no holes other than maybe the duct vents in my home.
I thought for the longest time it was cats or squirrels. After 6 years...finally discovered we had rats the whole time. Luckily, I believe they are outside only.

My closet is a mess and I don't get enough time to be able to clean in between doing laundry, working, and school work. And no way in hell am I going to let my mom clean it out- I've been hearing stuff in my walls when I get home from work at like midnight, I usually will punch the wall lightly just to spook whatever it is away.
A cluttered closet can make it easier for pests to hide. Maybe try organizing it when you have some free time to see if you find any signs of pests. And for the noises, consider consulting a pest control expert to ensure your home is critter-free.

So if you are not supposed to sweep or vacuum the droppings up as stated in the video, what are you supposed to do?
Per CDC recommendations:
Step 1: Put on rubber or plastic gloves.
Step 2: Spray urine and droppings with bleach solution or an EPA-registered disinfectant until very wet. Let it soak for 5 minutes or according to instructions on the disinfectant label.
Step 3: Use paper towels to wipe up the urine or droppings and cleaning product.
Step 4: Throw the paper towels in a covered garbage can that is regularly emptied.
Step 5: Mop or sponge the area with a disinfectant.
Clean all hard surfaces including floors, countertops, cabinets, and drawers.
Follow instructions below to clean and disinfect other types of surfaces.
Step 6: Wash gloved hands with soap and water or a disinfectant before removing gloves.
Step 7: Wash hands with soap and warm water after removing gloves or use a waterless alcohol-based hand rub when soap is not available and hands are not visibly soiled.
I hope I get rid of this problem in my home soon or I'm going to have a case of a Plague Tale if this keeps up.
ive forgotten a bag with some bread crumbs in a plastic bag and some wine in a paper carton and other deodorants and stuff in my garage i found the bag chewed up and same the bread crumbs and the wine carton, and there was smell of urine and some droppings. Not far I keep all of my food but ive checked all boxes and they seem fine. could it be only one occurance? that's in my garage with a door to my garden and we're in the countryside. I'm trying to determine if i should throw away all my food supplies :/ thanks!
It sounds like you’ve had an unwelcome visitor! It might be just one occurrence, but to be safe, keep an eye out for more droppings or chewed items. Consider storing food in sealed containers and setting traps to prevent future problems.

I was playing a game on the laptop last night, and I look down, and theres a mouse just sitting there near the bedroom door on the carpet. It took me a few seconds to figure out what I was looking at. Then I just said the word "mouse" and it ran, lightning fast, so fast I had to question which way it went. Right or left? I stood up, looked down, and checked behind the desk next to the door. There it was. A mouse. Behind the desk.
I have two really bad knees, been going on years now. If I lay down on the floor, it ain't easy to even get up. I also cant move fast anymore. So this was gonna be an operation. Required planning. I got a bowl the size of a dinnerplate, and set it down. Then, like in that film The Green Mile, I realized that if I just lifted the desk, it would run off and get under any other of the 20 or so things in the room. So I started emptying everything little by little. Took two fucking hours!
Finally, I was like "OK mouse! Everythings moved! I'm coming!". I'd set up two escapes with towels, a natural place for the mouse to run if I missed it with the bowl. I also opened the front door and jammed it open. Then I lifted the desk.....
....no fucking mouse. Little bastard obviously gave me the slip while I was working. Hopefully it ran out the front door. Not seen it since. But the room is now very clean and organized.

@@RovePestControl Negative! The mouse remains. He came back in a few days later, I watched him crawl behind the desk and into the drawer system. Heard him rumaging around for an hour. Then silence. Later on that night, about 2am, I woke up and made a cup of coffee. Came back into the room - the mouse was there next to the desk. It just looked at me - and then climbed back into it's new nest. And there it's remained. For 3 months now. It lives there. In the bottom drawer of the desk. It comes out once a night maybe 2am or 3am for about an hour. I figured, I could move everything all over again probably to fail as it gives me the slip. OR I can just leave it alone.
I figured it'd leave once the cold weather ended, to go looking for females outside. But it didn't. It just fucking stays here. Night after night.
What the hell. It doesn't harm anyone. But if I was that mouse, I'd pick leaving home and going in search of a wife, rather than living here in this room with me.

I have a mouse cuz I saw one today, so I got some traps, I don't smell urine YET PROBABLY, I saw droppings, I can't sleep at night cuz I hear moving noises that sould like a mouse was moving, I hear chewing noises, I ask my grandmother about it and she said don't worry about it. One once somehow made it all the way up the stairs from the basement and past my 2 cats and into my bedroom. My cat stayed awake and stared at it for hours and then i saw it run into my closet and she chased after it. Then i heard it squeaking so took everything out of my closet and found it and brlught it outside in a container but it jumped off the balcony stairs.... Rip

i had one used to come out at night and scratch at the stove and pans and every night id get up and hed run, i dont like to kill so wanted a way to just keep him out so i tried glue trap the next night im awakened from this scraping plastic all over sound, well he had 1 foot in it and was runnig around the kitchen so i had to being me go over and as fast as i could pull his little foot out and he took off after that it wasn't worth it so i just let it be just went to sleep at night bc im not doin that again lol just in case any of u r thinking of those, i dont recommend.

Man I've been hearing this weird ass noise in a box in my closet....it doesn't sound like a mouse that I would normally hear....but almost like a vibration or insect and when you hit the box it stops the noise for a second....but here's the catch the box is sealed.....I'll fill you in when I remove it front the house tonight but just wondering if anyone has any idea

Hi,I'm hoping u see this..I live in a apartment on 2nd floor,during the night I have been hearing something in the walls..multiple walls..at first I heard it coming from the wall on one side and now it's coming from a different area (wall) its scaring me.I have not seen any mice poop anywhere however a few months ago I had a mouse in the house,thanks to my dog seeing it I was able to get it...and yup used the broom...yuck..it took two hours for me to remove the broom from his body I wasnt sure if he was still alive..I think I have ptsd..

Good video, thanks. I’m writing to keep sane, as I wait for the disgusting rodent - mouse I saw last night. Temps here went from high 50’s down to 20’s in 24 hours. Then last night I saw either a 🐹or Mole🐭 , or Chipmunk 🐿?! Didn’t have a tail & didn’t act like a typical mouse. Walked out from behind the TV, & just stood right up in the middle of the living room like it owned the joint! Round rear-end thing just stood there for like 20 seconds, til I moved.
So weird for normally skittish 🐁 🐁 ! No matter... its going down!

I used to lay Aluminum foil along their runways, along walls where they’ve left tiny dropping gifts. Since I plugged up all the possible holes outside & inside, I haven’t had mice. Now is inspection time for holes somewhere. Only other possibility is the Stupid Doggy Door I guess?
But I’ll hear them or “it” I hope., I’ll choke & electrocute the vermin! BUT Never again will I use #GLUE TRAPS! They take forever to croak & they SQUEAK & SCREAM something awful! It’s blood curdling.. REALLY!
And won’t use #POISON ON UPPER UPPER FLOORS OF ANY HOUSE! They can die inside the walls & SMELL TO HIGH HEAVEN.

White Chicken I don’t hear anything anymore and i don’t really care since if the whole house will be full of holes and rats running in the walls and roofs it isn’t my problem, they didn’t listen. But if you literally hear the rats I mean maybe squeaking or something and scratching record it and show them
I constantly have to disenfect my stove and counter tops, always had to clean behind the microwave and keep my kitchen floor mopped...it was so bad i couldnt even keep my loaf of bread on the table or on top of my microwave cuz theyd chew a hole in the corners of the bread. We literally couldnt leave a crumb on the floor tables couches....id have to vacum and sweep every 2 days cuz my son was messy with food. Im literally still traumatized till this day

I swear I can hear a mouse in my room especially during the night and mid mornings. But I’ve set traps with peanut butters and cleaned my room and no mouse presence. I’m now thinking it’s either s super smart mouse or termite infestation. Yes termites makes loud noises. But still unsure as of now.
