A most brilliant series...one of the most nuanced and subtle portrayals of the psychology of the sociopath/ narcissistic personality disorder. There are scant few films or series that reflect any depth of understanding of the 'dangerous personality'. This series is one of the few exceptions. Contrary to Hollywood stereotypes, people like the character Tom Ripley do not necessarily stand out from the crowd; they can be charming and 'friendly', yet there is a social awkwardness, a vacant stare, an emptiness and a paranoia that can explode into unexpected repressed rage and manipulative, parasitic and predatory behaviour. These personality characteristics are portrayed with subtlety and depth by the actor who plays Tom Ripley, all accentuated by stunning black and white cinematography. He was in my opinion, much more effective and much more complex and interesting than the original Ripley played by Matt Damon. Please bring on more shows like this on Netflix!!
Absolutely loved this take on the series and you're absolutely right, Andrew Scott did such a good job with all of the subtleties in his portrayal of Ripley, that it not only made it more believable but incredibly chilling and shocking as a result, especially as the series was able to stay with the character on multiple scenes and scenarios that are typically moved through quite quickly in other Hollywood pieces of content
huh, tom possibly planting the idea of him & dickie being friends so that dickie's father would have the association, is an interesting take -- didn't even think of it myself. personally, i liked the series much better than the movie.
Thank you! I was just trying to work out why the detective went to him in the first place and thought this has to be the explanation. Agreed, the movie is incredible, but they were able to delve into so much more with the character in this series
This show was the the highest quality I've ever seen on Netflix and was film level masterpiece. Should get awards!
Yeah, I’m sure it’ll win plenty of awards! 🥇
A riveting series. Visually gorgeous.
Completely agree! 💯

Totally agree this is amazing a work of art cinematography is incredible
Yeah it’s so brilliantly created! 🙃
One of the most brilliant seasons of television I've seen.
Yeah, it was truly legendary!
Wonderful show. Most notable flaw is the nepotistic casting choice of Freddie.
7out of 10 ???? You mean 11 out of 10.😊
HAha, it was good but not THAT good 😉
boring show
