  • Small fish often strike a lure much differently than a big fish. I thought this was a little fish but it turned out to be a new personal best Speckled Trout.

Every time I watch you you get a PB! Way to go!

There should be room for a defibrillator under your seat for your next PB. If you haven't done it already, I'd appreciate you doing a quick video on using your fish finder and any mounting difficulties your ran into on your Lynx. I've never used one and could really use some "for dummies" guidance.

I I don't use the finder to find fish, it is for seeing depth, water temp and bottom contour (oyster beds look like little mountains). There are several install videos on RUclips and the Lynx is an easy kayak to install a finder. The most difficult part of installing a fish finder is mounting the transducer to the plate that is on the bottom of the Lynx because Hobie does not provide good hardware for that - some guys just use zip ties or whatever they need to attach the transducer. The Garmin 4 CV is a light, inexpensive fish finder that doesn't take much space and Nick at Navarre Kayak Fishing makes a transducer adapter you can check out here ruclips.net/video/4wXXusrrUOM/видео.html

@@FishingwiththeOz Thank you. I appreciate the time you took to respond. I've found a few videos covering use but the majority are about installation and/or presume you know the basics of use. Your finder looked like it was larger than the Garmin 4 CV. I was thinking of the 7 CV but that's coming from someone who doesn't know anything about them. I'll be fishing rivers and lakes in Virginia addition to waters around the Outer Banks.

@@MrSteve280 I suggest you speak to other kayak fisherman in your area or visit local kayak or boat and marine vendors regarding to discuss. Your application for a fish finder will most likely be completely different than mine, as I am often fishing in just a few feet of water and don't use the finder to actually find fish. I rely on my eyes to scan the surface of the water for any movement. Perhaps if I had a feature called side vue (which more expensive finders have-check out the Garmin SV series) I might see fish occasionally but mounting the transducer for a finder with side vue can be problematic as they are larger transducers and must stick out of the bottom of the kayak or be deployed with a side mount on the kayak. I actually had a side vue originally and never learned to use that feature well - never actually saw any fish with it. I sold that finder with the kayak I put it on. I now use a lowrance hook reveal 5. It is a basic finder with a 5 inch screen size, a nice size for me, not to small not to big. in the $300 range - priced similarly to The Garmin CV 5. The Garmin's are more user friendly - easier to navigate their menu screen, but I got some pretty good deals on the Lowrance finders - one I only paid $100 for. I am not a fish finder expert and when I need help to figure out how to do something on my finder I search on RUclips for instructional videos. There are a lot of Garmin videos on RUclips and also a Garmin Electronics Facebook group that could be helpful for you.

'Nice one OZ!! The video clarity wasn't as good as previous vids ? You just never know what's on the other end. You make it look easy !!

Thanks, I dont notice clarity issues on my screen - streams in 1080p. But it as early and the gopros do much better with some sunlight. I catch a lot of small fish for every big one and never take them for granted.
