      You are right, drawlooms are deliciously awesome. I think that's going to be the title of my book (if I ever get round to writing one) 🤣

    awesome as usual Amy
    but I have a note
    all problems which be done in the shed size or its parts (upper or lower) can solve by using a same length of the cord with adding an additional part with the treadles
    as you know the front hinged treadles can adjust from the first as the height of the shed and it solve the shed size
    for the back hinged treadle the position is reversed, not that only also the lames are also hinged from the side
    you have to adjust every treadle cord
    so if you add the (knee part: the name of the additional part) it work to reverse the action of the back hinged treadle to make it work as the front hinged treadles, the problem will be very easy to solve
    (sorry for my pour English)

      You are absolutely right, of course. Is that how you design the treadles on your looms? The rear-hinged treadles on the UC are curved as you describe and for the single-harness setup the cords are all precut to the same length at the workshop. I made new cords for the drawloom because the others weren't long enough, but I never measured those to see if they were all the same length as one another. That is an exercise I should do - thank you for the reminder.

      yes, I do that in some of our looms
      specially with back hinged treadles

    I've been wishing you'd make a video about adjusting the treadles to get a good shed. Thanks!

    This video is so great. Thank you for sharing your information. I have one question. I assume you have the countermarch logged when you do the first adjustments. At what point do you unlock the countermarch? I was doing some adjustments to a troublesome damaskloom we have at a weaving studio, and it dawned on me that there might be a specific time in the process when you unlock the countermarch. Your feedback would be much appreciated. 🙏

    • @DuellingRabbits
      @DuellingRabbits  2 года назад

      Hmmm ... Good question. With the drawlooms, I leave the locking pin in the countermarch all through setup and take it out just before I step on a treadle for the first time. After that - unless there is some sort of terrible catastrophe - I don't put it back until the warp is finished. I find the counterweights (on the UC) or elastics (on the Glimakra) are sufficient to keep everything stable while I make fine adjustments. If you find your lamms and shafts are shifting a lot when you take the pin out, that could be part of the problem. I hope you are weaving away soon!

      @@DuellingRabbits Thank you for your reply, that was what I thought you did. My challenge is that this a loom on which a lot of people are weaving and whenever there has been a problem it has kind of been fixed there and then. No one has actually systematically gone trough and adjusted it treadle by treadle and shaft by shaft, until now, so I am sure that with a bit of patience it will be ok in the end. I have one more waiting to be adjusted. Just finishing the tie down. So I will get plenty of practice.

    I am still waiting for my loom to arrive, so my opinion may change as I get actual experience but watching several of your set up videos, I am guessing there are people who find this part of the process kind of tedious. Personally, it looks kind of relaxing to me. I can hardly wait to try it out myself.

    • @DuellingRabbits
      @DuellingRabbits  2 года назад

      Well, I enjoy the process very much and think you will too. 'Relaxed' might not be quite the right word for my own personal state of mind, but it is absolutely satisfying when everything is humming along. I hope you'll let me know when your loom arrives!

      @@DuellingRabbits Relaxed may not have been exactly the right word. I have always been more math than art oriented, and really enjoy working puzzles. As you say this looks to be a satisfying project. Apparently I missed the last loom by a week so I expect a wait, but that give me time to get the house ready and to study up. I have read the usually suggested books, but I don't think I would even attempt this project if it weren't for your amazing videos. Thank you for all the hard work.
