In addition to annual costs, we cover the cost per hour and cost per mile to operate. We also cover key performance stats so you know what you're paying for.
Costs of airplane ownership vary widely from owner to owner. This video takes an average of the various expenses from existing owners and boils them down to simple to digest numbers. Your ownership experiences will be unique. - Авто/Мото
If I had an Aerostar I’d call you.
“It’s a 3min video, what do you want?” Had me in stitches 😂
So this channel is awesome and I love learning things I never could google or find out through researching myself. It really does put things into perspective. I noticed that a lot of the planes are, let's say, "within budget" of someone's goals or even lifetime. But could you do one of a more expensive plane? I am looking at the "RH ONE Gulfstream 650ER". Looks insanely cool!
Love how you sort of talk to yourself in these videos 😂 By the way, would love to see a video discussing general pros/cons of the more nitty gritty features of planes after the normal speed/range/load stats, i.e. pressurization, panels, known ice, etc
Thanks. That sort of thing will come in Complete Flights. Thanks for watching
Flew the 601P for work; that thing was wicked fast and wicked temperamental. We figured it likely cost around $800 CDN hourly to operate with the above average maintenance bills. 230 Kts true on 34 GPH FL190-230
A company called Independent Aviation Consultant have this plane for taking photo of the jungle in South America. What a lovely job 🙂
Yay! I was waiting for this video for quite a while! Thank you!
My friend has a 602p and it is one of the coolest and fastest looking planes out there especially since he did the winglet mod to it and he just got 4 bladed mt props
Love your videos! Keep ‘em comin’! And if I had a 600, I’d call! They are nice :)
The person who owned the hangar next to me owned an Aerostar. I was never a piston twin fan but forever reason, I fell in love with them and want to own one soon.
A while back, I asked for a video on the Cessna 210, and shortly saw one. Lately I thought about asking for a video on the Aerostar. Thanks for delivering!
Another great video! Could you do the aeronca champ or searey next?
Love this plane! Would love to own one!
Love your channel and this plane! Could you do another clip on the 700's as most Aerostars seem to have been modded and seeing the numbers for a pressurized Aerostar with 700hp would be great? Thanks again
Please do the Aerolite 103. I wanna know what you think about it.
I was just at a friends house, an a buddy of his had an Aerostar parked next to his hangar… i’d never seen one before. Very cool plane. Looks fast standing still. thanks for the videos! Always looking forward to the next one.
Great Video, simple to the point. I am looking into a purchase of a Superstar 700. Started with a MD 600N helicopter at 53 hours so an Aerostar can be done. Any comments, send them.
Fortunate to have about gotten about 400 hrs in these things back in the day. First plane I flew for $. Flush rivets, twin spar wing, hydraulic pump on #2 that powered flaps, gear and nose wheel steering. Make sure that damn ball is centered when you raise the gear or you’ll brake the banana belt crank
LOL .. always entertaining man
This plane doesn’t do it for me, yet you had me engaged to the very end. Can you do _Turbulence_ next? Would probably have to be an official collaboration with Patey, and maybe closer to 5 minutes than 3, but it would be awesome.
I'd love one of these but if it's smaller than a 310, i'm not dead sure I'd fit very well
Can you please do the f4u corsair or the Piper Arrow turbo 3
How about the aero Commander next?
fuel management , many fuel tanks and valves. Adds to the work load.
Oooo! What an interesting looking plane! Wait, could you do one on the Messerschmitt Monsun? "MBB Bo 209 Messerschmitt Monsun".
Piper Twin Comanche in the works? I wonder if your Twinkie research will match mine
Will you settle for a Aeronca Sedan?
It’s interesting to factor speed, range, cost across different AC.
Singles, Twins, Experimental, etc. I can afford 200kts, I’ll be doing it alone in an experimental and not a 6 place Twin
Aero Commander 500 next?
we have one sitting in the back of our hangar that the pilot comes and flies once in a blue moon. It's collected so much dust and rust that I'm surprised every time he makes it back.
First thing you have to do is buy and replace the proper vertical stabilizer and rudder that actually fits
I enjoy that a company called "American Cement" made aircraft.
That reminded me of The Simpsons episode where Homer is Mr. Sparkle.
"Matsumura Fishworks and Tamaribuchi Heavy Manufacturing Concern"
Awesome video as always!Anyway, Lancair/JBM
Evolution? It’s got it all, 4 pax, pressurized, 330 knots but with 60 knot stall, 4000 fpm climb, 40 gph, 1000 ft ground roll, and rough field capable. Expensive, but super cheap considering it’s competition. So what’s the catch? I’d be curious to see your take on it.
The catch is Lancair IV-P are really hard to insure, they have a bad safety record.
@@kazansky22 All valid points, but an Evolution is not a iv-p. It’s a newer design. I’m not sure about insurance, but it has significantly fewer bad habits.
The catch is that you have to fly out to their factory in Oregon and help them build your plane for 3 weeks since it's an experimental technically. You could buy one used but there are few available for sale at any given time.
How many seats?
Also, how would you approach a video titled, "So you want to start an Air Taxi company"?
6 seats, the bench seat in the rear actually has 3 seat belts, so actually seats 7.
And no reference to how much money you can make smuggling cocaine with it? Missed opportunity...
I was looking for this comment! LOL
@@alecbarr7210 One of my all time favorite lines of wisdom, “Well the cocaine ain’t gonna fly itself.”
Nice
Yes, yes I want to buy an Aerostar.
Attempt #5: Just for fun, let's say I want to buy an Air Tractor! The AT-802F Fire Boss with the floats being a personal favorite, because we all know, the floats make it awesome ; ). Could you take off the spray gear and have a fun personal aircraft?
Reply #3, yes sure why not.
@@CompleteWalkaround Sadly the 802 is certified in the "Restricted" category: "Operation of the airplane outside of the special purpose missions for which it was licensed isn’t authorized."
@@ca_pilot Ha, that's true! So no I guess not. 😑
Crossover with Eric Reese??
Just out of curiosity, how come you tend to pick the older, less performant versions of airplanes when doing these videos? I imagine most people might be interested in the 601P if they'd like an Aerostar. Am I incorrect in this assumption?
That's a good question. Two things.
One, I think generally speaking no, people aren't more interested in the higher performance versions of any given model, any more than they're interested in the less performance models. It's all a scale. If someone is more interested in the 601P then the 601, then why not be more interested in the 700P or the 702P than the 601P. If they like the 702P why not be more interested in King Air. We can't all fly Honda jets. The best anyone can do is find a place that they can afford and be happy.
Second thing, Many models have versions of various levels of complexity and performance. 600, 601, 601P, 700 ... Complexity adds cost, downtime and general frustration. There's more things to break, more things to be on back order, longer and more frequent visits to the shop. Sometimes numbers look good on paper but the real life day to day can be very un-fun. Just look how many Cessna 340s, 414s and 421s are for sale and really low prices. Yet people buy 182s for the same price or more.
For me personally, I generally don't like the tricked out versions. Instead of buying a fully loaded Honda Civic, I'd rather a base model Accord. It's why I like Extra 300. It's got great performance but it's basically an engine and a seat. It's all relative. I have an RV-3. like the simplest plane you could dream up. Some people have 2 Beech Dukes. Complexity comes at a cost and everyone needs to decide for themselves if the juice is worth the squeeze. I wonder, all the owners of the big Cessna twins that are for sale, how many of them are moving to bigger better planes and how many are moving to something more simpler. That would be interesting to know.
Anyway, That's why I don't think people are more interested in higher performance versions as a rule. Why I pick the planes for videos is either because I know people with the plane, or have the info some other way. Or if I'm starting from scratch I just do whatever I feel like doing a video on. Being easy to draw helps :) Thanks for the questions
@@CompleteWalkaround Wow, very detailed answer. Thank you for that. I'll keep what you said in mind.
I have a 700P. Fuel is $8.00 a gallon x 35 - 40 GPH low cruse, Top of Climb burns 80 GPH. Insurance is more around $12K a year, Annuals are more lime $15K a year, Hangers are more. STILL MORE THAN WORTH IT (Just saying)
What's the total damage a year?
Since when was this even a thing?
That cry of desperation..... Somebody with an Aerostar please call him!
High wing? Low wing? Mid wing!
Enticing specs, ugly airframe
You probably don't like blondes either if you don't like the lines of an Aerostar!
