Two cool things about this video. First, we get a rare reverse operations takeoff at Honolulu and another rare reverse ops landing in Maui. And, at 22:00 right off the wingtip, you can see one of the USA's nuclear powered Ohio class submarines returning to port!

It's not very comfortable, that's for sure. They're basically the same seats that Allegiant and Spirit use. That said, the longest flight they're ever used on is like 40 minutes, so they're tolerable.
Beautiful video like always! I love island hopping on these 717s. Also, may I ask, how in the world did you get your phone to focus on the outside with all the water on the window? My iPhone 13 Pro always has a hard time focusing on the exterior whenever there’s something obstructing the camera (eg. some scratches, foggy/dirty) even if it’s so minuscule. More examples of this is the phone focusing on the window whenever we pass through a cloud, and especially at night, it never wants to focus, it just keeps going blurry.
So, there's a few things to look at here. First is the obstructions on the windows like water, scratches, or dirt. Unfortunately, no one is going to let you outside so you can go clean it 😂, so it's an unfortunate reality. I've found that since the 14 Pro came out, the cameras on the 14 Pro and 15 Pro seem to do a lot better at focusing past those obstructions. That said, I used a 13 Pro for a long time and was able to get past that issue by simply forcing the camera to focus past those objects. To do that I simply hold the camera up in the cabin and touch the screen so the little yellow box shows up. Then, simply hold your finger there until the AE/AF Lock message shows up. That locks the camera in that particular focus, which will be farther away than what the scratches or water is at. Now, that also locks the auto exposure... Which is going to really mess up the image quality once you point the camera back through the window. But, once you have the focus locked at a distance, you should be able to put the camera back in the window, and touch the screen again, which will unlock the auto exposure and auto focus. When you do this, because the phone was already focused past the window obstructions, it will often go ahead an focus on the wing anyway because it was already focused past the obstructions. This does not always work though and sometimes you have to it multiple times before it works. Second... What to do when it decides to de-focus when there is nothing but sky or you go through a cloud. You have to be proactive here. I never, ever, just leave the camera to auto focus all the time. This is asking for it to lose focus when it loses any reference point. So, just like above, even if the window is completely clear, I always tell the phone where I want it to focus. And you do that by simply touching the screen. Touch the screen where you want it to focus, but don't lock the AE/AF. I typically use the end of the wing as my focal point. I simply tap the screen on the end of the wing, and that tells the iPhone where to focus without locking the focus or exposure. Simply the the screen on the end of the wing every half an hour or so, because it will eventually auto default back to the auto focus. The basic thing here is that iPhones have to told who to do haha. I you don't, they'll try to auto focus which is when the problems happen. And last... Night filming... Filming at night is just difficult no matter what. And this applies to any camera, not just iPhones. Cameras need something to focus on and at night, even with a full moon, there's not really enough light for the cameras to work. I've been filming flights for this channel for a decade at this point and I've used iPhones the entire time. I've used the 6, 7, 8, X, 11 Pro, 12 Pro, 13 Pro, 14 Pro, and 15 Pro and they've all struggled to film well at night. You have to get the camera focused at the terminal while there's still enough light from the ramp lights to see, and then you better not lose that focus for the entire flight haha 😂. If you pull the phone down or accidentally hit the screen in the wrong place... That's it... It's game over as you're not getting that focus back until you land haha. I film the full flight on every flight I take, but there are often a few small edits equaling a few minutes at most as I sometimes have to use the restroom or order my drink, etc. Not on night flights. My night flights are generally one super long take with no cuts. Because if you lose that focus, you're done.
@@sla31 Thank you so much for the advice! I honestly think Apple should bring in a "pro" mode like on my old Galaxy, you could lock the focus, and change a whole bunch of other things like WB, exposure etc.
@@XeounAlvarezAviation I agree. I've been petitioning Apple to add more customizable and professional features to the standard camera app for a long time.

Well, there's not really "links" as I use one item to film everything with haha. I film with iPhones. That's it. I'm currently using iPhone 14 Pros and I don't use any other special equipment. I don't use any mounts, I don't use any gimbals. I use iPhones and I film by hand.
What will happen to Hawaiian’s B717-200’s and Hawaiian Airlines in general now that Alaska is acquiring them. Will they cease operations and have Alaska take over? Will they still be operating? What will happen next?
Well, no one really knows... Alaska hasn't said anything beyond that they plan to keep the Alaska and Hawaiian operations separate. Hawaiian has already been looking at replacing the 717's though. They'll likely eventually get replaced by something like the A220, 737-7 Max, or the E190-E2. Only time will tell though.
@@RoadsOfAsiaBenno, I mean an Ohio-class submarine, of which there are 18. The USS Ohio is one of them, but there’s no way to know which one is seen here.
I do give more information in the description. I can only put so much in titles as they're limited to 100 characters. Compared to most of the people in this world, I'm rich. I was born in the United States to a middle class family and was able to go through the public school system, where I then worked my way through college with zero debt, receiving two aviation related bachelor degrees. Which then allowed me to get descent paying jobs where at this point, I really don't have to worry about money in the sense that I can afford what i need to live comfortably. So in the sense of all of that, yes I am rich. But... I'm not "rich" in the sense that you're suggesting. I'm not wealthy or from a family with old money. If I had infinite money I wouldn't fly the same domestic routes on Southwest 5x a year. If I had infinite money, frankly, you probably wouldn't see any videos on here at all... Because, if I had infinite money, I never would've had the mindset that I do now, which is what led me to creating this channel. I worked hard to get where I am now. And I sacrificed a lot in my younger years to position myself to where I am now. When I was a kid, it was a treat to get to fly somewhere. I got to fly somewhere like once a year. And I loved it so much that I wanted to do it more and more, but my family couldn't afford to fly the whole family on trips multiple times a year. So when I finished school, again after working my way through it and graduating with zero debt, I started traveling more. But instead of just keeping it all to myself like most people would do, I decided that it was selfish of me to do that. I remembered how much I longed to fly and travel more when I was a younger. So I decided that I would start to film my travels and share them with everyone else. All of those people out there were like me when I was a young. Wanting to fly and travel more, but not having the means to do so. And that's what I've done for 9 years now. I've uploaded over 3,000 videos for everyone to enjoy, but especially for those who cannot afford to do so themselves. Every trip I take is a carefully budgeted affair so I don't go bankrupt. If I were wealthy, all you'd see on here would be Emirates, Qatar Airways, and ANA, and first class... But no, 99% of the flights see on here I'm in economy, and most are domestic flights. I'd be like Sam Chui 2.0 haha. So my friend, I appreciate you being a member of this community and for being a subscriber. Because it's because you and so many others continue to watch that I'm really able to continue the channel. Thanks for being a member of the community here my friend.
