His point is to be considered world champion you need to beat teams around the world. In soccer the champions league has all the best players who make the same if not more money than NBA players. Yet they play in the FIFA club world cup against the champions of all the other leagues around the world even though they just as likely to win as the NBA champion would be against the rest of the world. They do it to be considered world champions, it comes across as lazy and entitled by these NBA players giving themselves the title without putting in the work and it is indicative of a larger problem with how the world views americans who call themselves world champions in sports no one other than themselves care about. As these sports grow globally and the talent pool increases it becomes less farfetched that a european team would be able to beat an nba team in the future. This happened in baseball with the world champions being Japan.

I agree the best talent is within the NBA but the only teams within the NBA operate within the Americas region. Therefore, you cannot be world champions if you exclusively operate in one region. Take Football for instance, the champions League is the most prestigious tournament but the winner is the champion of Europe not the world because of the location of the teams.

He is right in a sense that for sprinters, world representative selection is very straightforward in a sense that your performance/race placing literally determines your place on the world stage. You can't argue or have as much influence on results. For FIBA and Olympic team selections, there are so much politics and people involved with the team selections to the point where 'world champion' prestige is not balanced between basketball and individual sports - It's skewed.
For example, Iverson was snubbed in 2006. Gil was snubbed in 2008 etc. Both deserved a spot on those teams, however were cut due to politics and sponsorship agreements. McCants and Brandon are the ones reaching and it's so excruciatingly painful to watch them argue about how other talents outside the NBA could be better. (I think this outlook stems from them being kicked out of the NBA too soon in their minds) Gil's point is so simple, all the best talent in the world is in the NBA. If all champions from all pro-leagues meet, ain't none of them can compete against NBA elites, let alone the NBA Champs. Gil's point about Mike James who can't even have a decent NBA contract being the best in his European team is a solid proof of that. Lastly the US TEAM in FIBA right now isn't even the best 15 players in the NBA, and they're already dominating. Mccants and Brandon just can't really come in to terms that they're not NBA worthy talents hence their animosity towards NBA calling themselves World Champs.

I agree the best talent is within the NBA but the only teams within the NBA operate within the Americas region. Therefore, you cannot be world champions if you exclusively operate in one region.
Take Football for instance, the champions League is the most prestigious tournament but the winner is the champion of Europe not the world because of the location of the teams.
