This is such a clear and engaging summary of CA and related options. I've just sent it to a person with Autism who's looking to get into animation. Thanks for making it.
Hi Dave, or everyone I have one problem, The audio recorded from my Character Animator is not stereo (mono left). I use Focusrite 2i2 Studio, but stereo works well with other applications such as DAW Cubase, etc. I've tried setting the microphone section on the CA but it's still mono. I was forced to edit it again with another editor. Can anyone help me? Many thanks
Huh not sure what's happening here. I have seen other users have issues like this in the past but unfortunately I don't think there was an easy fix. See community.adobe.com/t5/character-animator-discussions/modify-audio-channels-in-character-animator-from-mono-to-stereo/m-p/13643979 and feel free to add in the forums to see if we can help more.
You've probably long solved this problem, but if anyone has a similar issue: its probably your focusrite 2i2 recording the mic left and instrument right. If so, simply unplugging the instrument solves it.
Yep, I had the same issue. Music producer here and I still couldn't solve the problem and I'm using totally pro gear. So I decided to use Logic to record voice over, which ultimately sounds a lot better anyway, then animate to existing file by importing it, and capturing my motion capture over the top. Works great, but it would be nice to get a fix to that bug fort hose that don't want to do those extra steps.
Hi Dave - Been using Animate from audio in lots of kids workshops, but just wondering when Adobe New Express, including the talking characters will be available on iPads. Thanks
You mean like a dedicated app? I'm not sure what a timeline is on that, I haven't been part of any discussions there. We tried to optimize AFA for mobile and tablets as best we could in the meantime!
@@okaysamurai Not exactly. When I try to access the Adobe New Express website on Safari on the iPad, I just get a holding page, saying it’s coming to mobile soon!
Would you be able to use character creator to create a virtual avatar for live streaming with OBS with face and eye tracking ? I see there is full performance capture so I’m guessing yes?
Do we have any serious alternatives to Adobe character animation? the software is nice but it lacks effective tools for live streaming projects.. for example we can't put an animated scene!
For Live Streaming this tutorial might help: ruclips.net/video/0Va3_e-4bKE/видео.htmlsi=TGgwPfxS4vDIaAoA. Typically people will add scene stuff in OBS or other streaming software and use CH as only the character inoput.
Yeah, I think the only way to do this would be to ask each individual to have their own Adobe IDs and use the free starter mode with the puppets you all provide them to make their daily episodes. Head turning does work in starter mode, as seen with Stardust the unicorn. If the puppets also do stuff in Pro mode, that could be an added bonus, but with that many potential accounts I think optimizing for Starter mode is your safest bet.
First of all, thank you very much for your reply. Second, all our puppets are designed to use body tracking, motion library, physics, leader follower, etc. Each puppet has a set of lip sync and 6 types of hands, eyes and even feet and shoes. All are fully rigged and work well with most motion librarie presets. The third and most important of course: I am the only person on earth who lost their marriage because of learning Adobe Character Animator. I am serious and decisive in reaching my goal and I have always paid for it.
@@okaysamurai so I'll buy Creative Cloud subscriptions for everyone if necessary. Cuz The starter mode is not enough to make a professional animation that is made with the intention of attracting a large amount of audience. It was not possible to DM you on Twitter. Sounds like you might have a lingering W-oo or Oh shape somewhere? If the problem persists, please upload a video or screenshot of your issue to adobe.com/go/chfeedback and we'll try to help you out.
You‘re the reason I started trying out Character Animator and I love it! Especially using it with transcripts is amazing. There is one feature I can’t find though: Is there a way to adjust the transcript to automatically trigger triggers? For example „Hello! Welcome to my channel!“
@@okaysamurai Thanks for your response! That means the only way right now is to start another recording session, use the keyboard shortcuts for the triggers, and then adjust them afterward, right?
Right. I'd do the transcript lip sync first and get that right, and then record the triggers in another take. That's a really common workflow I'll do, where I record one behavior at a time and tweak it before moving on.
All characters are 2D under the hood since they're flat PSD or AI files. But you could export out 3D parts and rig them to get a 2.5D look. See some of the 3D character examples on pages.adobe.com/character/en/puppets.
Animate is for more traditional, keyframe based animation, while Character Animator is about performance capture. It's really a question of what the project is and what style of animation you want and tool you feel comfortable with.
Custom characters aren’t available for Express yet. You can make your own characters in the desktop version of Character Animator: www.adobe.com/products/character-animator.html
I wish there was link or listing page of freelancers that are capable of making puppets. The third party companies that are listed do not take commissions and one of the individuals that was posted website link is no longer valid
Ah sorry, can you let me know the ones that aren't taking work anymore? I try to keep it up to date but it has been several months since Iast checked it.
Technically yes, if you took an existing puppet and modified the original PSD or AI file with simple changes like color swaps or adding a logo to a shirt, that would work if you imported the puppet into Starter Mode. But anything more advanced would probably require Pro Mode.
Hi Dave! Thanks for the video. I have a question regarding the puppets: I have the design of my character in Adobe Illustrator, I'm using it to create differents scenes with differents expressions, but each time I change the design to adapt a new expression, the scenes are automatically updated with the new faces. Is there a way to like close a scene to avoid being updated if the character changes or should I have to create like a tons of differents design for each expression? Thank you in advance! :)
There is an "auto-sync with artwork" button in the right properties for any puppet that you can uncheck. Typically I'd do one character with a swap set to change expressions so you don't have multiple files.
Really wish this was an app for android since i dont have a computer, hopefully they manage to make that happen one day for people who admire animating but don't own computers
Always enjoy seeing Okay Samurai notifications!
Crazy timing, was just thinking bout trying the full version to make a short cartoon

Do you know if they will makw the motion library easily customizable
No currently plans to do this, but most people get custom motions by making Replays: ruclips.net/video/mZioGOAt8RE/видео.htmlsi=us4ehoZmsKeJjimL
Hi Dave, can we modify the features of the character?
You can make whatever you want in the original PSD or AI file, or use pages.adobe.com/character/en/puppet-maker to customize a templated character.

Yes, you can import audio files instead of live recording in all three versions!
How to create a puppet file? Can you make a tutorial for that
Yep, best one is ruclips.net/video/hK-DjtiPzRs/видео.htmlsi=qO_Dn9atpD57cbjs
Can I use this feature with a character I created?
You can make custom characters in the Pro version (3rd one shown in this video).
