I think Tim made some good points, and I like what Tim said. But, overall, I have to say I agree more with Tim’s views.

Wonderful, and balanced. I love the way you each approached and explained your choices.
I tend to read/listen to the NLT for a face-paced ‘big picture (especially in the narrative sections. I read the CSB at a normal rate for both devotional and basic study. Finally, I read the NKJV at the slowest rate for more fine details and for in-depth study.

Yea CSB! From a new "convert" to the CSB, who also uses the NET and NKJV. My other "consulting" ones are the ESV, NASB 2020, LSB, HCSB and NIV. And the WEB because it is Public Domain. Thanks for your channel! Blessings!🙋🏼‍♂️😊🎯

Yes , yes , yes on the NKJV. I feel like when I read the ESV I’m following the directions to putting together a baby crib, it gets me there but sometimes it misses the mark on understandability. Read all of 2nd Peter in either the ESV and compare it with the NKJV. The NKJV flows so well, it practically allows one to memorize whole chunks of the Bible in a easy amount of time.

At the moment, I'm using the NASB 95 to study with since I'm doing a lot of word studies. However, I go to the NIV and will be using NLT for passages that are difficult to understand. I grew up using the KJV and switched to the NKJV. The KJV-only camp almost had me persuaded but by the grace of God, I wasn't there for long. I then began using the ESV while researching the history and application of manuscripts. Most recently, I got a free copy of the LSB on accordance and now I'm using the NASB 95. I must admit, I really like the LSB at the moment but I think the NIV might be one of my favorites since it is easier to teach my children with and that's what matters most to me.

I grew up with the nkjv. It has only been these couple of years I'm starting with the esv, partly because my church switched from the nkjv to esv many years ago and also the cool heirloom bibles Crossway have in their lines. But I got to say, I still miss my nkjv sometimes

I think most people are stuck on the translation names themselves, if you took the label of nkjv off the spine as well as other translation names out would you still feel the same? if you didn't know which translation you were reading at any given time would you still feel the same?

    Kjv- carry round, preferred
NLT- reference, to understand the thought, dynamic equivalent
    LSB- study, reference, literal analysis
YLT- study, preferred reference, literal analysis of the tanhak & textus receptus texts, present tense
KJ3- same as YLT without the present tense, different areas of literal analysis
NASB77&95- same as LSB, different backgrounds

The Passion Translation was removed from Biblegateway as you all know. How come "The Voice" got a pass? It was along the same lines. And why in the world hasn't "The Message" been removed? All three are not translations and they are not paraphrases. They are unduly free.
The word "paraphrase" has several connotations. Tim, maybe you could do a program on the various meanings of the word.

  • @philtheo

I most like the ESV and the CSB. I have a ton of respect for the NKJV, I love the KJV heritage, but the main issue for me is I'm simply not Majority Text let alone Textus Receptus. I prefer the ESV to the NKJV since I think the ESV has a better textual basis. I know many disagree, but I'm just stating my opinion at this point, without wishing to debate textual critical issues. Still I have a ton of respect for the NKJV. Also I sometimes wonder if the NKJV might be as popular as the ESV if the NKJV didn't capitalize divine pronouns and improved other formatting. As far as the CSB, I find the CSB is very good when trying to communicate with the unchurched and with non-native English speakers, which are groups that I often run in. I really love the CSB for its accuracy, clarity, and naturalness. I love the ESV for its accuracy, but it's not as clear or as natural sounding as the CSB, even though the ESV is more elegant or literary sounding, at least to my ears.

I know this may be a difficult question but I am 49, and trying to get back into the Bible. I just do not understand the KJV wording. I’ve seen all these reviews and still confused. What Bible is the easiest to read without taking away from anything. I am conservative if that matters and southern 😂. But I do not know any bibles and trying to decide the easiest to read verse by verse in todays language but still being biblically correct is getting confusing. CSB, NASB, NIV, NKJV , and all the others I don’t know. Can you HELP!!!😂

Funny how people dismiss anything they themselves do not understand. That's the age we live in. I realize it's their opinions; however, their claims are based on personal and corporate biases as facts. There's a lot of false humility oozing from this video too. Very disappointing to see these three "experts" being swayed so easily by popular opinion. 😕
Read whichever Bible speaks to you.

The Passion Translation is a joke, but let's be for real, the ESV is a pretty damn bad translation as well. The KJV also fails to translate decently, but it does read pretty epic so that makes it up for the poor quality.
