What I love about speed runs of this game is that they make sense canonically. The Hearthian has infinite time to learn about their environment, they’d come to utterly disregard life and limb, and they’d practice the route to the Vessel an absurd number of times once they realized the implications of removing the warp core. Probably wouldn’t be that wildly reckless with the Anglers but still lol. Anyway it reminds me of Bill Murray becoming a piano virtuoso in Groundhog Day.
Speedruns start from a fresh save file (as evidenced by the Nomai statue cutscene) so technically, as far as the canon is concerned, this is the very first loop ever.
@@tonogram yeah this is technically true, and ‘canonically’ is a strong word. My point is that the base game narratively supports the idea of speedrunning in a uniquely specific way, with the normal progression literally culminating in an actual speedrun of sorts. And if we’re gonna be pedantic about the canon, the game starts on the 9millionth+ loop, it’s just that the ATP hasn’t made anyone aware of it yet
Hatchling: I'm stuck speedrunning in a loop, you know. Slate: Yeah, everything is a race nowadays. Look where that got you though, on your way off into the outer wilds.
DAMN OKAY so many great optimizations, I love that you can kinda see the shakiness and nerves when entering the coordinates cause yeah i woulda been shaking too if i was on wr pace lol, also flying through those anglerfish full speed and NOT getting crunched?? mad skill
i knew you could outrun the anglers if you were fast enough but gah dayum that was some feldspar inspired shit if i’ve ever seen it… great run my dude ::D
Yes it does, after the statue cutscene the world is reloaded, so among other things you lose your suit. By going to the ship directly we minimize the amount of time spent without the suit
It's part of the setup to be sure that we enter the geyser from the right direction precisely, if we entered the geyser without setup we would die >99% of the time
As far as I remember from the speedrun reviewed by the developers, yes. It run the scripts that trigger the 22-minute countdown and sand on Ember Twins.
I loved seeing someone navigate the Bramble at full speed without getting munched. I haven't kept up with the speed runs so that was new to me. ::)
Apparently in the first ones, they took that part slow, but things got increasingly Feldsparian with subsequent attempts.
Feldspar would be proud
Can't believe the part he optimized in this run was the Dark Bramble part
this guy is insane
That bramble run was absolutely insane Feldspar shit, hot damn

@@LAK_770 damn. Out-pedanted. Fair play.
didn't expect that vessel exit
That door doesn't have collision for a little bit after warping only able to be done if you jump while warping
3:52 god help me
Feldspar Moment
YEEEEEE
HAAAAAAAAW
Feldspar would be proud
Hatchling: I'm stuck speedrunning in a loop, you know.

Optimal marshmallow roast

I just finished the game for the first time and was looking up speed runs, can’t believe this new record you got came out 3 hours ago, great stuff
Congrats! It's great to see a run containing every new optimizations
8:25 cool guys dont look at explosions
IGN should make another video showing this speedrun to the devs, this is fucking crazy
Glad to see you pay tribute to the marshmallow gods
i said to my self : im not seeing speedruns so i dont get spoiled ......... GUESS I WASNT SPOILED ANYWAYS LOL
this is the first time I've ever seen someone outrun the anglers like that
Good lord lmfao
i knew you could outrun the anglers if you were fast enough but gah dayum that was some feldspar inspired shit if i’ve ever seen it… great run my dude ::D
You are a pioneer in outer wilds speedrunning, I love that you put so much time and effort into speedrunning this game that we all love so much
You are getting closer to the perfect run. Cheers on you :D
absolutely legendary
I imagine the other Hearthians like "I think the Hatching did a line of marshmallow"
Does it actually save any time to avoid touching the floor in the observatory, and make the statue-memory sequence happen later? if so why?
Yes it does, after the statue cutscene the world is reloaded, so among other things you lose your suit. By going to the ship directly we minimize the amount of time spent without the suit
The final "big bang" scene would lock the character in place, I'd think, but apparently not. What sort of time-save does the scout recoil have?
About half a second or so
Well you can't use ur suit thrusters to move but I guess the devs didn't account for scout recoil which is funny
this is amazing
sublime opening
I'm in awe
awesome job
INSANE
nice run
youre adorably shaky at the end
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing run, bramble was crazy
wtf bro gg
atleast he did it before the solar system was destroyed
what's the purpose behind the signalscope at the beginning? timing the geyser jump or something?
It's part of the setup to be sure that we enter the geyser from the right direction precisely, if we entered the geyser without setup we would die >99% of the time
the p in pt stands for poggers
ultimate feldsparing is so tricky to learn, nice job! any chance for a guide on it?
bro literally Feldspar
Is it necessary to get codes and activate statue?
As far as I remember from the speedrun reviewed by the developers, yes. It run the scripts that trigger the 22-minute countdown and sand on Ember Twins.
Those 7mn took me 30+ hours 🤔
You're on world record time but you burn the marshmallow.
Do you start the run again y/n
yes.
Still got emotional at the end... speedrun or not
How
How the fuck can someone do this faster
Ah, also it was him 😅
