It depends on how much space you have. I love a wall full of booster boxes to display but graded or raw cards are way easier to store. Another thought: If you want to sell or trade your stuff later, it´s easier when you have more but cheaper items. Finding a person who wants exactly THAT booster box for 1k who have also the money to spend can be difficult. That´s why I have a mixture of PSA 9 Alt Art cards, ETB, booster boxes, sleeved Booster, raw cards... at the end I will sell the most stuff for my final goal which is a sealed WOTC booster box and some of the most beautiful Goldstar/Crystal/Shining cards. No modern product can beat them IMO. ;)

Orion, love your content but saying you should buy modern PSA 9’s to try grading a 10 is not good advice. As you always say, buy the card and not the grade. Just because you are scared to purchase expensive raw cards doesn’t mean others should be. Only buy raw cards online with very clear pictures and do your research. Buying good modern cards to grade brings much better value to your collection than just buying a PSA 9. Especially for new collectors.
It’s a preference based on my experiences and my own personal opinions and I believe it’s still a good way to invest and find opportunities. Yes you can buy raw cards but there is ALWAYS risk there and I personally have had some horrible experiences buying nice raw alt arts. Of course I’ve also bought and graded raw 10’s as well but still I find there are 9’s that make just as good of candidates for grading that could easily slip past the system. I’m even willing to take it one step further by potentially buying 9’s and showing they can be grade to 10’s. Additionally I’d like to add that 9’s tend to have more growth than psa 10’s and a larger buyers market. It is harder to sell 10’s and find buyers for those cards at the market premiums wouldn’t you agree? Anyways I welcome the differing opinions and I appreciate you being kind about it. I’m not right about everything and I know and accept that but I feel pretty strongly about 9’s with modern. So many people think 10’s are a must for modern and I just don’t agree with that. Anyways I respect your comment and maybe I will do a deeper dive into this and ask more folks what they prefer. I don’t want people to just agree with me I want to know that people genuinely think the same things. There is of course a lot of opportunity in grading raw ESPECIALLY if you can find cards to buy locally in person. But I highly recommend buying in person opposed to online unless the set just released and there’s clearly plenty of good copies out there. This is even riskier with vintage so I am really directing it towards modern. Thanks for watching and contributing regardless! 😎🙏🏼

I can totally understand that perspective although I don’t think it affected all products it makes sense to think that way. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts 😎🙏🏼
Exactly everyone can afford to buy into a 9 or rationalize the cost for their binders or collections but sometimes 10’s just cost too much. If you can afford them great but modern is so abundant there’s not rush to buy 10’s but grading them yourself is great. Nothing against 10’s but if you’re buying all your cards cost is a major factor. Liquidity as well.
To your point though. Sealed will always be better in the investment sense because 1. it's made to be opened so it's supply will always trend down 2. When you buy a single 10 slab. The box has the potential to have that and more. And people naturally will lean towards the potential 👌
Fantastic points ! I think you pretty much nailed the essence of the video. I’m open to criticism and constructive feedback but when people tell me to show the evidence the evidence is there since WOTC. Base charizard can be had in a 10 for 10k or less. The unlimited box however still trending 12-15k. There are probably a few exceptions but this is overall the case. Great comment and thanks for watching and supporting! 😎🙏🏼
No totally but at the same time if you’re doing this every year trust me it’s going to add up quick and storage will become an obstacle even if it’s not cases and it’s special collection boxes and UPC’s they take up so much space. 😂
Graded card is about how popular the pokemon is ( more popular mean higher price ) while sealed products are about how long you can hold it ( when it no longer in print and few boxes exist mean higher prices ) 😂 but if everyone keep their boxes sealed and don’t open them then I think prices will probably stay the same
I would be shocked if people weren’t opening the product especially if they are new to the hobby most new players and collectors will want to open product no matter the cost I think
I care about centering, centering was more of a big deal during Gx era because they all had thin borders that stood out bad when they were off. I would always find the best centered single and then save up for it even if it wasn't the best deal. Also I keep all my cards sleeved in 60 card deck boxes, not graded or binded or sealed so they take up very very little space. My bulk is taking up an entire bottom shelf of my bookcase as one solid block. It's become hard to get 4 copies of an alt art for a fully blinged out deck. pokemons made it easier but thats why I've stopped collecting. I'll just get some top tier promos. I missed my chance to get four Lillies, so I just have one of everything instead. I'll get every version to have 4. I miss buying packs half off when I was the only dude doing it. Pokemon is expensive as it is. You mentioned Logan in a recent video and I wanted to add its not just Logans fault but all the poke content RUclips machine as well. Cards should only be worth their rarity tier. If an ultra rare comes in one in 8 packs and a hyper one in 16 and another one in 32 that should be its average cost. pokemon cards aren't worth anything. If people wanted them cheaper they could build every single deck blinged out and play them all. but no.
Fantastic comment I love reading your comments I can tell you’ve been in the hobby a long time ever since you mentioned you build decks to play. In alot of ways it’s a shame how expensive things have gotten but there’s always an angle to work. Yes it was easier to collect, play and enjoy on a budget before but there’s still lots of room for Pokémon to grow and fix problems or improve in areas like pull rates. Also I know centering is very important to most collectors but to me it’s all about the physical card and if it’s clean enough and not dinged too bad I’m fine with it ! I got lucky on some of my psa returns but if they were 9’s and not 10’s I’d still be happy with them because in the end we all have the cards at this point in terms of modern who cares if it’s 9 or 10 especially if the boxes do better anyways. Although I know I’m not a big RUclips channel I like to think that those of us who love the hobby and are passionate collectors should be helping the hobby stick around, not destroying it to your point. I know you aren’t necessarily directing that at me but I plan to grow the channel and hope that people won’t think I’m the problem down the road. I’ll always collect Pokémon ever since my obsession for it grew 3 years ago I haven’t been able to collect or really buy anything non Pokemon related. Love this hobby and hope it stays popular but if not I’ll still be here making videos and collecting stuff I like. Thanks for watching and contributing homie! 😎🙏🏼
No totally I mean I think the hobby is extremely inflated. So what I’ve got some expensive cards- could they tank in value suddenly ? Absolutely ! Will they? Who knows. I just really wanted them so I bought them 😂😎
@@orionsires I admit I got into Pokémon because “it could be worth money” and as a kid everyone had base set but me. But after packing full a 360 slot binder, mostly not doing anything with it and realizing the binder only ruined my textured cards being so packed out, (I started around ultra prism, shining legends) I decided to switch to collecting playability based on awesome online RUclipsr players. Who all have fully blinged out online decks. (Littledarkfury & trickygym) and it displays awesome bc I have clear deck boxes with my best cards on the front. (I admit, I haven’t played with any of these cards yet, I have them all stored ready to be built into decks and then sacrificed to the riffle shuffle, I’ve played games with prebuilt decks so far with my friends). Most collectors want to make the most of their money while I’m doing the foolish thing, trying to collect them all and fully bling out every deck if I could (which ruins the cards). Which is what you’re supposed to do. So all I’m saying is I see both sides of the hobby, the way pokemon plans for you to use the cards, and collect them (promos), and the way EVERYONE else treats them lol. Also I’m critical of a lot of poke tubers but I like your channel because it’s your thoughts your journey your collection/collecting goals, thoughts on the hobby, that’s organic. “Collect what you love” bc if you follow everyone else you’ll be late but if you’re into the cards and know what to get next or what you like the most you’ll be ahead of the game. Most the prices are based off a “general consensus” that’s not always right. Like when astral came out machamp wasn’t expensive at first until people or someone realized it’s the most underrated card in the set and I believe it was manipulated. But as for the “mainstream consensus”, I was ahead of the game because I unluckily pulled lots of female trainer cards instead of pokemon, and I started collecting them all because I had almost all of them and I knew they were underrated beautiful cards and ones from ultra prism were also playable. And unluckily twice baked jake made a vid before I could buy three more Lillie’s for $80 each, but now my $32 sightseer is $1000. It’s been a learning experience, they were worth money someday like I hoped but not over time it was more like over night. I don’t know to be happy about it or sad, I guess I got what I always wanted but it’s so mainstream now I’ll just collect off other people, let them waste money pulling and buy cards when they crash down to reality, hopefully in years all these raw cards will be meaningless and plentiful. I switched over to Lego this year. Less gambling, I like the legos from recent years, it’s all over my apartment. But I built a sick custom Lego recently that makes all the official Lego look pathetic so I think I’m finally satiated. It’s called Iron Man Alt Build by Ransom Fern on RUclips.
Offhand comment based on what you said earlier about cracking slabs to put into binders. I would honestly like a grading company to exist where they have a very small and thin case essentially the size of a toploader. But with much harder plastic. Obviously the actual grade might not be as valuable as PSA currently, but if one of the big 3 companies either licensed that technology or bought out the new company for the rights to use it, it would get so much traction and potentially gain an entirely new market with binder collectors.
That’s actually an insanely good idea. I love it. Toploader binders exist and a slab binder would be cool but still so clunky and heavy. They certainly would benefit by making things more compact! Great comment fam definitely thinking outside the box. The future of grading will be very interesting. 😎🙏🏼
I could see more people collecting raw modern cards instead of modern slabs over the next 3 years. It's mostly speculation, but that's my plan. I love building decks and my main collecting goal is to bling the modern decks that I have (For example buying two SI Tinkaton and two SI Chien-Pao). I don't have any interest in cards that I can't use, imo I could just have a poster or something instead. Just providing a less comon data point, something I could see other pragmatic genz's thinking
For sealed there always needs to be an end buyer. The fun cost is way too high at the sub hundred dollar prices no way anyone will crack a $500 es & expect to get their value. The people buying these sealed products are just banking on someone paying more than they did & with how many people who are doing this post pandemic the booster boxes in closet number is prob 100 times the psa 10 pop, all of which could be cracked & still wouldnt double the psa 10 pop…
I enjoyed reading your comment and you make some solid points for sure but based on past history I’m banking on sealed product but I might be wrong only time can tell ! Thanks for contributing to the topic! 😎🙏🏼
12:46 youre giving me a revelation. When people who got into cards now, start looking back at collecting cards they missed before they were in, and see cards from 3-4 years ago being extremely pumped (genkyu tag team $400, gardeveon $400, karplord $2-300) I think they'll just give up and be out. The boom will be the death of this hobby. That's what my feelers are sensing.
That’s a hot take but new collectors have no idea what they are in for with all the new sets, new alt arts PLUS yes sun and moon being the first modern cards to rocket. It’s only more expensive for vintage the further back you go. But honestly I think most will just stick to modern for that reason. It really doesn’t make sense to give up just because prices are too high. Some cards I’ll never have but I won’t quit over that. However I love all ideas and opinions and it’s a risk collecting high cost TCG. 😎🙏🏼
I just feel like Pokemon is so backwards with how we determine value. It just doesn't make sense to me why sealed product is worth more than the cards inside it. To me, the cards should be worth more than the boxes. I feel like the point to buying the boxes/open packs is to take the gamble of potentially paying less to get the expensive card as opposed to just buying the card out right. Buying and ripping packs today feels like if I were to buy a lottery ticket for $1,000, but the most I could win is $500. It just makes no sense to me.
Ripping is an experience Lottery scratching doesn’t compare. Many of us would LOVE to open vintage sets, the money the cards cost is a bonus, not the main priority.
I totally agree with it you it does seem backwards sometimes but the simple fact is that sealed product is always in smaller supply than chase cards of a certain set. Buying chase cards in a 10 is still a solid play though. I’m not arguing that it isn’t, but sealed is definitely the move for growth and lack of supply in the end. Is it worth it to buy a really expensive booster box versus the cards we love to collect ? Absolutely not but for selling down the road the boxes themselves often times do best. But I totally understand your thought process and agree it’s odd. Regardless it’s a great topic and thanks for contributing 😎🙏🏼
A lot of the booster boxes will probably be more expensive than the top card raw but that can change for a lot of them when you look at psa 10 prices. Supply is definitely a factor too but I would say a lot of it is the 10 potential, like base set for example, if you managed to pull a charizard that was a 10 you would have gained a lot more value. Is it worth that gamble, probably not most of the time.
Please don’t tell people to buy modern PSA 9s. Surely you don’t believe what you are saying. You also mentioned that people should do their own due diligence and research separate from what you are stating; however, I would challenge you to take your own advice. I am aware that you enjoy long rant style videos, but your “advice” or “opinions” are very often factually wrong and demonstrate that YOU don’t do research. The sad reality is that there are new collectors/viewers/ investors that watch your videos and take what you say to heart as a basis in their collecting journey. You should feel responsible to give solid advice based on evidence rather than project your unsupported thoughts. I’d expect more substantive content from someone who has invested so much time and money into this hobby.
I do believe what I am saying, but I accept other viewpoints and opinions. Furthermore instead of stating what the problem with this rant is more specifically besides saying “evidence” you’ve just stated that I’m not giving good advice overall. You haven’t helped solve the problem you’ve stated is present. It’s my channel and I make videos of my thoughts and that doesn’t mean they must align with yours. You can always respectfully disagree and plead your own opinions. Maybe even contribute to my knowledge/others knowledge of the hobby instead of discount my opinions. I know plenty of people that buy 9’s and would be willing to bet many more will comment that they buy 9’s over 10’s because of the value, cracking for binders and for their collections in general because not everyone can afford 10’s.
@@orionsiresyou are correct that I think you generally give bad advice. Any value you assign any item should literally never be relied upon. For example, you said an evolutions Charizard in a PSA 10 MIGHT be a $700 - this is 100% false. That card sold recently for $1,400. You said in your last video that vivid voltage can be acquired for $85. That is also false. This type of misinformation is RAMPANT in your videos. At one point, you claimed the regi gold stars in your videos were around $500 each, yet you bought for $700-800 each?? My original ask is that YOU do more research before you make videos. You talk way too emotionally on how you “feel” but it’s not supported by anything substantive. Then you try and do these long form rants to try and make it seem like you have a semblance of what you are talking about. To any experienced person in this hobby, they can see right through the facade, but the newer people in the community are the ones that are going to be hurt by what you say. I hope others hold you accountable for the misinformation that you spread.
I’m rewatching again and you said that maybe 100 people own a Skyridge booster box…WHERE DID YOU GET THAT INFORMATION FROM??? This is a perfect example of how you spread misinformation. A completely meaningless claim not based on anything evidence.
@@user-id4jt3fp3x There's thousands of 10's so a 9 is essentially a junk slab. Fine for collecting but it's a bad idea in terms of long term value retention. Not a terrible idea if you just want the card and don't care about the overall market.

Graded card is about how popular the pokemon is ( more popular mean higher price ) while sealed products are about how long you can hold it ( when it no longer in print and few boxes exist mean higher prices ) 😂 but if everyone keep their boxes sealed and don’t open them then I think prices will probably stay the same
Basically in a nut shell 😂 but nah I mean it’s only been 2 years and several sets have doubled in price 😎🙏🏼
If people wanted them cheaper they could build every single deck blinged out and play them all. but no.
its just a scam like crypto in a way, its supposedly related as a "bias" I think I heard Rudy say. Thats I think my overall thoughts
For the players you are absolutely right! Most of them do not care about slabs so that does need to be factored in thanks for contributing! 😎🙏🏼
Ur also missing pull rates for crystals in skyridge it was possible to hit two per box, now you did good if u hit an alt out of a case…
I enjoyed reading your comment and you make some solid points for sure but based on past history I’m banking on sealed product but I might be wrong only time can tell ! Thanks for contributing to the topic! 😎🙏🏼
This is also facts - super hard to pull alt arts now and that may change how psa 10 cards are valued down the road versus sealed
I have nothing against collecting sealed products but it just seems boring to me.
Oh it’s very boring 😂 and does take up a lot of space
I got a Evo Skies BB a while ago for $175, opened it and got Gold Lightning energy... lol :(
Oof that would have been a nice pickup if left sealed! Can’t blame you for cracking it to hunt the chase 😎🙏🏼
Ripping is an experience
Lottery scratching doesn’t compare.
The box is a collectible in itself. People don't just buy to open.
Is it worth that gamble, probably not most of the time.
opossum 😂
I meant the animal but I see what you did there 😂
I legit just busted out laughing
What's wrong with buying modern PSA 9's? Genuinely curious as I'm kind of new to the hobby
