I think that is the better way to go, 40-50 card lots that way people are not overwhelmed with evaluating the price and it will for sure net more. Bite sized chunks vs information overload.
I’m surprised you would consign cards and take the tax hit yourself. Don’t forget to keep track of your cost basis for all your sales since you will undoubtedly get a 1099 for 2025
I need product to sell on eBay and honestly the shops and local market aren’t enough to feed me so even taking a tax hit in the end it will all be worth it the bigger I get the more streamline selling becomes but yes, there’s liability and lord knows I’m going to owe a few thousand this year easily just off eBay alone. Maybe even 10k + but hey my income on paper is growing too and that helps me finance for a larger home so for me it’s a no brainer to boost those numbers and consignments like these help to do just that! If it goes for enough it will be well worth the tax liability. Also luckily eBay handles sales tax so I don’t have to worry about keeping track of that at least, whereas the big name sellers using their own website do have to deal with that. Preciate you looking out! My dad raised me as a tax paying citizen, even when I pushed back on it because I was making money on side hustles I didn’t have to report my dad always forced me to report income as a safeguard. This is no different, just how it goes. 😎
You’re supposed to deduct the consignment payout on your taxes to offset the sale since you’re not actually netting the full amount. Message history and bank payouts can be used as substantiation.
This. I believe the 1099k threshold for 25’ is 2,500. Orion, you need to make sure you have everything well documented because the IRS is going to see the total amount you’ve sold on eBay. And they’re going to want 20-30% of that depending on your tax situation. They don’t know 90% of that is going back to the consignee. You really should have a separate bank account too where you make payouts from. Doucument, doucument, document! It’s no fun dealing with the IRS. Love the content.
