I wanted to say, I got my first paid real estate gig this weekend, I just finished editing photos, and your trick about dropping the blue saturation to get rid of the strange blue glue from natural sunlight was a godsend! Thanks for all the inspiration! It was a super fun shoot, and looking like it may become a recurring client! You da best Becki and Chris!
Hi Lizzie, Pleased to e-meet you! I found your videos online and i fell in for you at the first sight. I wanted to reach out and offer my "long long time loving" services. Let me know what you think and I’d love to jump on a call to tell you a bit more about what I can offer. All the best, Mert.
Sound Mixer here...pickup a couple of lavs and a field mixer for cleaner sound. If you are using a shotgun, try getting the mic above you, out of frame. Love the videos ladies, just hoping to help all of us get better sound!
Interior photography is something I've been thinking about for a long time. I'm rather terrified to jump into that. Some days I feel like building a portfolio is like trying to get a bank loan. They want you to have money before they lend it to you, and if you had money, you wouldn't need the loan in the first place. I feel the same with a portfolio. I need a portfolio to attract clients, but I need jobs to build that portfolio. Wow, that was a rant. My apologies. Wonderful stuff!
Don't go to the realtors. Even in the carriage trade, those guys are cheap as shit and are used to paying $100 for photography, or $150 if it includes drone shots. Seriously. Instead, find who's doing the home staging and appeal to them. Also going directly to the homeowner and showing how crappy their listings look, and how their realtor is under-serving them. They'll scream at their realtors, the realtors will contact you, and still try to get you to do it for next to nothing. Avoid these guys, and get the homeowner to pay -- up front and NOT on closing. The homeowner can negotiate with the realtor. Also many/most clients have questionable taste. Most homes need to be staged. Getting involved with a home staging company will make your job easier.
m sok a home stager is definitely a good one to work with. Luckily I’ve had decent luck with realtors, I worked with one particular for 8 years and he was one of my best clients. No issues there.

@@BeckiandChris Becki, you and Lizzie make a great pair! What are the odds of a Tuxedo Time: Special Edition, Becki and Lizzie? Just saying, I think it would be a hit!
Such a great video with so much good info! I started real estate photography back in March and now I’m the in-house real estate photographer for one of the biggest real estate teams in my area! So many good opportunities in RE photography. 👌🏻
I got the Budget template/billing template from them and today the Email template. Loving the template thingy a lot these days. From Both Lizzie and Chris and of course you guys 💖
Thank you for the info. I’ve been thinking that once I get some experience under my belt I’d like to get into product or real-estate. The info here was very helpful. So thank you both and I look forward to the next one.

Thank Becki and Lizzie; both of you so funny; hope to see more video about interior shooting
Thanks for making this! It has really helped to put everything into perspective, and I think this is where I am going to try and start up my business. :)
Great video. I have a question about music in a real estate vid. Epidemic licenses aren't good for creating for 3rd parties. How do you get around that, or what other music do you use?
Artist.io is a good place to start. There music is licenced for commercial projects and about the same price as the epidemic sound RUclips subscription.
Becki, coming to this late (both in terms of time elapsed since you posted this video, and late as I'm turing 67 at the end of March) but I wonder if there are differences in how you start a multifaceted photography business in a large market like Southern California vs in a small town? It sounds like you might have experience in both those size markets. I retired here from SoCal where I was a glamor photographer best known for my vintage pinup work. It was funny, many years ago but only lasting for a couple of months, if you Googled 'Vintage pinup photographer' I was the first several results and this was before Google added their 'local' to searches so this was global results. (I felt so special.....) The resurgence in interest in the vintage pinup really started around 2003 when several big magazines had vintage pinup or fashion as their covers. I'd been shooting in that genre since '89.
Hey Becki! I absolutely loved these couple of videos. I know this was made a couple of years ago but I'm wondering where the email template went lol. Thanks again for this!
How much one should charge for a single project like a single villa or a huge community dwelling with different types of apartments? Obviously it depends on the construction firm or architectural firm who designs it or any single owner but some example of your previous experiences will help to understand the ratio between the scale of the project and the amount paid.
ARITRA GHOSH id come up with either an hourly rate or a day rate and then figure out how long it’s going to take. Don’t forget to take into consideration editing and post time.
@@BeckiandChris Actually I am a final year architecture student and the only part left in my course is the mandatory internship..So, I am making my portfolio as an intern architect ..but I also take photography seriously and want to add that skill to my portfolio. In that case I can make a separate contract with the firm other than my normal internship. I enjoy doing this but have no idea about what is a fair rate for it.
@@BeckiandChris if you could give us an example rate, that would be helpful. Because that's basically his question. I'd like to know too. Obviously we don't need to know what you make per gig, but you can help us out with some sort of "i.e.". Like a regular house, photos only and a regular house photos and videos. You're giving great tips, but not on the financial side. Hourly rates are about €65 or like $75 on average here (I think) but for packages and/or video Productions it's a lot harder to figure out some example rates.
Rico's Story it’s really difficult to say exactly because it depends on a number of factors that differ ESPECIALLY depending on where in the world you are living, what the market in that area is like for photographers, and how much experience you have. The freelance market in NYC is going to be completely different than a small town like where I am from, and a photographer with 1 year experience is going to charge less than one with 10 years experience. I’d recommend doing some research for your area and maybe even go as far as reaching out to other photographer friends in your area to see what their rates are.
