It really beats me as to why Esther Williams fabricated a story that Jeff was a cross-dresser, and cited this as the reason for their breakup. Both these humongous stars are no longer with us and only they have the answer we are all now seeking.
Esther was always a pathological liar. A real piece of work. She later said she made up the Jeff Chandler cross dressing crap to sell more books. In the meantime she was called out by many of her fellow performers, starting with Sheila MacRae who flatly called her a liar, and said Esther constantly lied. Next Fess Parker who was livid. She also falsely lied about other co-stars. Cyd Charisse told her, "you must have needed the money," to make up such garbage.
