I must say for all those who express so much discontent for this commercial, please consider this thought... Alcoholism chooses no race. All mankind is affected by this disease...Red,black,white,yellow!! Second, There used to be a time when they used the white man to play native talent and this commercial involved very famous native actors who all struggle for the few jobs a year that surface. Its a tough choice...Feast or Famine.
Because by Indian they really mean American Indians which are Native Americans. I don't know why people still call them Indians when clearly they're not from India
Its a part of a chain of commercials with the same idea but different settings. They made something exotic for the finnish market and tried to make an exotic commercial. It should be viewed in a finnish context. -val
David Midthunder is a great actor. Loved him in Hostiles. He is Sioux from what info I have gathered fron the lying internet. I dont think that is his voice though. Sounds dubbed. I dont know, I could be wrong. His daughter Amber is my favorite actress of all time
Omegavalarius and Johnny Janssen were the only ones in the whole comment section who got it. Everyone else took it out of context (a foreign culture, the Finnish culture) and saw it from their own context (Native American or non-Native, American cultures). I saw guys drinking beers in a "bar". I didn't make the connection between Indians and alcohol problems, I just didn't see it. Neither will the Finnish. It could have been Samarai drinking a beer called Japan, and everything else the same. Or Scotts in kilts drinking a beer called Scotts, etc, etc. I certainly wouldn't think less of Native Americans from seeing the commercial.
yeah talk about going overboard.. i didnt think about what culture it was either.. some people are just spoiling for an argument eh.. Im with.. all fuss about nothing
It's a commercial for heavens sake. You would find it funny aswell if you had seen the other similiar commercials before this. I don't see how this could be offensive anyway though.
@harderindian How do you know if he (Rick Mora) is native or not? Were you in the same place as his parents when he was born? Now, i'm not trying to push you here, i'm just trying to get a better understanding. And besides It's best not to judge somebody's backround just by assuming something it is so. If you want to for sure just ask. Rick Mora knows who he is.
I know there's that whole stereotype about Native Americans being alcoholics, but I didn't think for a scnd that this cmmercial reinforced that. I thought it ws gret to see the anachronism with his behavoir/the beer w/ the girl (and in the other versions, w/ other people). I just thought it was this guy, chilling with his friends, drinking a beer, and waiting for the ladies getting that 'bar feeling', like any other guy from anywhere in the world. They just chose Indians b/c it's Indian beer.
It's advertised as "indian beer" for the simple reason that it's made from maize. A cereal that I believe to be native from the Americas (so the traditional staple of quite a few tribes Native Americans). No need to see bad thoughts or racisme in this.
@nativerickmora007 That's true! When i was in 5th grade my entire class did a play, Annie Get Your Gun, and my director decided to have a pale-skinned(i don't want to be racist) girl as Chief Sitting Bull. I was a little shocked that he'd do that considering that she was in fact not Native at all.
You are right, Rick.. we all gotta pay our rent! And we all have to learn to laugh more..This commercial was really funny and out of the usual stereotypes because was played by true Native Americans. Would be very different if the actors were dressed up whites..I work in fashion biz and I know too damn well how is difficult to survive!
"That's funny because where I live, there is a huge problem with indians and alcohol." The correct way to spell is Indians with a capital I... D.A's But then again your statement showed just how intelligent you truly are.
@Neonrain10029 my boyfriend is native american, and his father never drank, because he didn't want to support the stereotype. It's kinda like heiniken in a way, and people say irish are drunks.
"heineken" is dutch dishwater, only foreigners drink that. Different country, but at least you hit the same continent. gratulations from finland, you just passed entry exam to finnish elemetary school :)
Not my favorite ad ever. As a Native American man I do not like the associations that are implied by this as and the product it represents. I do, however, understand that acting jobs are not always easy to come by, and actors need to pay the rent too. I'd never buy this product, but I'm not going to condemn the actors for making the ad.
There's more stereotypes in this clip than you can see easily. There are gender and sexuality stereotypes too. Overall culturally American Indians are probably better left alone and not assimilated into television culture, which is reciprocal, most people don't notice this. It seems normal.
I am disappointed in these guys. Come on guys, surely your price is higher than this? This is low and so disrespectful. This is adding to a negative stereotype. I am sorry but this has lowered my opinion of these guys. Have some cultural pride, show some respect for your people and yourself!!! Very disappointing!
Yeah this commercial is pretty fucked up for god sakes it could have at least had a better script if they were going to be so stereotypical in the first place.
Shame on you Rick Mora, and your two friends. First of all people reading this, you need to realize that all of these men are mexican and not native american. It is dispicable to portray native american men drinking alcohol and behaving this way when alcoholism among our native people has become an epidemic and is killing our loved ones every single day. I have no respect for these men. I'm just glad they're NOT some of our true native brothers in this commercial but still anyone who would portray our people behaving this way and then LIE about being Native American is a shameful individual!!
I'm sorry, I find this commercial in poor taste because I don't approve of using native people as mascots and because of the stereotes of the 'drunken Indian.'
This my Friends is quite an insult. This is sad and shows what other country's think of Native Americans. "How White Man. Drink em this fire water and make fun of us for the tragedy of alcoholism has on our people". You say it's funny and i think to some people, it could be. Myself on the other hand (and i'm sure a lot of the Native America population would agree) do not find it amusing.
strange commercial. But I don't think there will a similar one with jewish. I mean natives americans and alcohol, not a joke, after all that have happened. Republic of Lakota!bye
TOTALLY DISGUSTING!!! What self respecting Indian would do this? I can't even imagine. Perhaps these guys didn't think anyone in the U.S. would see it!
I must say for all those who express so much discontent for this commercial, please consider this thought...

I shocked!!!you can't encourage alcohol addiction because of commercial advertising!!!
Native American Men so Handsome
that spot absolutely rocks! i love it!
Because by Indian they really mean American Indians which are Native Americans. I don't know why people still call them Indians when clearly they're not from India
Bende senin gibi anlamıyorum krıstof kolomb hintli demiş isimleri öyle kalmış
I love the handsome men ..bravo

It's a commercial for heavens sake.

lmao that was hilarious! Everyone needs to calm the fuck down. It wasn't meant to be offensive I think it was meant to be funny.

I have lost respect for these Native actors. They are disrespectful to their people. This is sick. Sellouts!

native american beer? yummm...made from twigs.
This was not funny at all.
There's more stereotypes in this clip than you can see easily. There are gender and sexuality stereotypes too. Overall culturally American Indians are probably better left alone and not assimilated into television culture, which is reciprocal, most people don't notice this. It seems normal.
This commercial is so fucking sterotypical. Very offenseive to say the least...
Thats F*** up!! and they actually got Natives to do this?! They can't pay me no amount of those green papers to do something like this.

Yeah this commercial is pretty fucked up for god sakes it could have at least had a better script if they were going to be so stereotypical in the first place.
Insulting to name a beer Indian for starters; insulting to portray Indians acting like they're in a bar. The reality is a lot uglier and deadly.
