- This summer's fashion "must have" isn't so new at all. Birkenstocks are back and bigger than ever. Birkenstock USA managing director and CEO David Kahan joins the "CBS This Morning" co-hosts to discuss the revival of the classic footwear.
i like how calm he stays through the whole thing while they're insulting it. like i think socks with birkenstocks is actually really cute, especially with art socks and stuff, these reporters don't know style
Me too, just got a pair of Bostons so I can wear them with socks...not any old socks, my daughter brought me back a pair of art socks from Iceland...looks cool!

I don't know why the reporters are doggin' so hard, it's actually pretty rude. Plus, they're really missing out, Birkenstocks are so comfortable and some of the women's styles are pretty fashionable.

Birkinstock is the best .... I feel so bad for him stupid ass reporters and there ignorant opinions... I am a plus size girl if I was to wear a regular pair of thin sandals the sole would run out I would say about 3-4 months and that's walking moderately .....my first pair of birkinstock last me 2 years plus and would of been more but I left it in ex boyfriend car.. I'm buying my second pair now. Birkinstock is worth every penny
I don't understand these interviewers. They have over 25 styles. If you find one style "ugly", it doesn't mean they all are.

I started wearing Birkis 24 years ago during my last pregnancy. And OMG I have been addicted since. I have around 30 pairs now and they are all I wear anymore. Unless we have too much snow. Lol. I don't care what anyone says about how they look. I'm gonna wear them forever!!!
They have saved my feet too. After a lifetime of walking on uneven ground and wearing Redwings my feet were a mess and extremely painful.
I keep coming back to this video. I love this guy's attitude. The Birkenstock classic Arizona is everything! Gail is out of her league here.

C'mon Birkenstocks moved out of the two strap/buckle design a long time ago. They even have closed toes ones for winter.This report/interview was stupid.
Personally love the way Birkenstocks look. I wear them everywhere and with everything. They’re so versatile. I wear them to school, work, church, shopping, anything. The comfort is amazing and I wear them all seasons. I understand why some people would think they’re ugly but not everyone feels that way and these interviewers are honestly being so rude about it
At first, it was not a good looking shoe for me but now, It's pretty amazing and whatever he said is absolutely right, from 50 feet away you can say it's Birkenstock and that's what success is.
Amazing job from this Ceo, he kept is super smooth, if was for me i was saying "Choosing how this shoe should look is none of your business,i can allso say that there are many other sandals that can suits your needs, there is a reason why we are no. 1 in the market and is not the look, we are not here to discuss this".

Oh Gail, why so mean ? Oprah will be kinder than that. After watching this, I went out to get a pair of Birkenstocks. They are the best sandals that I ever had and they look classic. I don't care if they cost about $ 100. The CEO is way cooler than the 3 of you combined.
I grew up in the 90s these were the style for the college beanie wearing type and now they are so trendy and I think it’s great! The CEO is very handsome I’m sure he knows what is and isn’t attractive wish these ladies didn’t act so pretentious towards him.

I have been wearing Birkenstocks for going on 6 years I started wearing them when I was in 7th grade and now I'm going to be senior (high school of course). And I can strongly agree that these are the best shoes I own. Although I did cherish the fact that in my school people would mock me they didn't know what they were talking about, until they owned a pair. But now these shoes are insanely popular which is great! So this debate on whether they are fashionable or not is bull because practicality is fashion. And I will continue to be a strong supporter of Birkenstock!

After 26 years in Florida wearing flip-flops almost every day, I developed big painful bumps on my Achilles tendon. Orthopedic docs said there was not much they could do. One even suggested surgery. My sister handed me down a pair that were too small for her. After wearing them for just a few months, my giant bumps disappeared without any other intervention. They're miracle shoes! For the past 15 years I wear them as my daily house shoes. Could really use a new pair!
I gave up trying to wear heels or other “stylish” shoes a long time ago and now I only buy what I think is comfortable and stylish. Personally, I think Birkenstock’s are the best of both worlds. Once you find the design you like from them there’s no going back. This lady must think unless it hurts your feet it ain’t stylish. Get a clue lady, these shoes have been around for so long for a reason and that many people can’t be wrong!
these reporters were so rude and condescending. i have 3 pairs and i love them all and to say that you can’t wear socks with them is ridiculous, i wear my with thick fleece like socks in the winter and so do many people at my school
I am an Indonesian, i have a birkenstock sandals, i think it's so expensive for me, but i proud to have it, and it's so comfort for daily use and it has good durability....
Moreless ten years ago i bought, and it's still okay.

Great response from the CEO. HORRIBLE interviewers, they keep bashing the shoe, and asking him to make it prettier when thats not the point. Go to Zara or something if u want a "pretty" uncomfortable shoe. The Birkenstock is one of the most popular in the world and comfortable too. It wouldn't be so successful if it really were "ugly". Have some respect. The CEO seems like a very nice guy!

I use to think that they are ugly but... I saw them at the mall and I got a pair and I was scared to wear them, but everyone at school wears them! Now they are really in and I'm glad I got them . Also they are so soft

now I think that the next step would be that every country produced, if not the authentic Birkenstock footwear, something almost identical, both in looks and concept. I can name, for example, 3 Spanish brands: Heymo, Yokono and Natura.
That way everyone could feel the comfort under their feet and at the same time feel proud of their national production, don't you think?

Yeezy are ugly af and they were popular. Dad shoes had (or still having?) a resurgence. These reporters don't understand what style is... it's a statement to personify something, an image, an attitude/mindset/philosophy/way of life, an era or something nostalgic, something new, unexplored, and/or radical, etc. Like Mr. Kahan said, eye is in the beauty of the reporter. Fashion is about individuality and expressing it.

I've worn Birkenstocks for almost 30 years now, and I still have my original pair. I've had them resoled, and I have several styles now (Arizona, Florida, Gizeh, Mayari and Milano). They are wonderful and worth the price.

Plz bring back the Birkis Tahiti Soft footbeds! There were the best! I can't even wear your Birkenstocks soft footbeds anymore. The Birkis softs were softer and much more comfortable for my feet.

Where is your respect for your craft as a reporter and as a person who conducts interviews.this isn't a comment about race this is a comment about being human about respecting the art of the interview and about respecting the people you interview regardless of your view.your the reason people see reporters as so out of touch and out of the loop....
If it's fashionable to be uncomfortable and of poor quality and reliability, you might want to question that fashion.
It would have been nice to have known that they make narrow Birkenstock. Every time I've tried them on with a salesperson standing by, I've mentioned how they are huge on my feet. (I have long narrow or actually size B width.) I'd love to have been able to wear them years ago.
