    -----------
    Slave To The Wage lyrics:
    [Verse 1]
    Runaway from all your boredom
    Runaway from all your whoredom
And wave your worries and cares goodbye
    [Verse 2]
All it takes is one decision
A lot of guts, a little vision
To wave your worries and cares goodbye
    [Chorus]
It's a maze for rats to try
It's a maze for rats to try
    It's a race, a race for rats
A race for rats to die
    It's a race, a race for rats
A race for rats to die
    [Verse 3]
Sick and tired of Maggie's farm
She's a bitch with broken arms
To wave your worries and cares goodbye
    [Chorus]
It's a maze for rats to try
It's a maze for rats to try
    It's a race, a race for rats
A race for rats to die
    It's a race, a race for rats
A race for rats to die
    It's a race, a race for rats
A race for rats to die
    It's a race, a race for rats
A race for rats to die
    [Outro]
    Run away, run away
    Run away, run away
    Run away, run away

Competent people and geniuses manage to do this: songs that are timeless and that fit in various contexts of our life. I haven't heard "Slave To The Wage" in a long time and this song has everything to do with what the world has been through: Covid-19 and quarantine. This band remains brilliant!

i quitted my previous job as a cook in a hotel with 16hours of work everyday and low salary in one month when i listened to this song. been a fan of Placebo for 14years, when i was a teenager and barely speak english i first listened to the song in 2005 and didnt understand the lyrics until I watched the video in 2010 (i was 18) and told myself that i will never be a slave to the wage. such an irony years later. when i found my old BMM album, i heard this song, and the day after i just sent my resignation letter 😂

I was in college when this song came out. And really hoped at the time that my future wouldn't be to be a slave to the wage, but alas, that's just what we all ended up becoming 13 years later.

When I've started listening (and become a huge fan of) PLACEBO, I was a cool rebel teen, who thought this song would never be something I can relate to. Now I'm 26 and trapped in a f**king office . Sad.

I never get comments like these... we're talking about a band that smashed every record, millions of followers across the world, 25 years of carreer... underrated by who??

    • @davidbarker2585
      @davidbarker2585 8 месяцев назад

I’m 65 years old, and steeped in classic rock, alternative, pop, some metal and electronic like Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers and newer bands (sort of) like Beck, Muse, Oasis, Metric, and I have over 475 artists and 8,576 songs on my iTunes.
Yet when I play bands like Placebo and others to kids around 25 years of age, they are both amazed and most have never heard most of the groups I send them.
So yes, in my small world centered in Rochester, NY, Placebo and many other great artists are either unknown or underrated.

    • @marcocanton9495

@@davidbarker2585 every band is a product of their time. I don't think that for a band not to be underrated it has to be known by every generation. Each has their own. How many 20yo today listen to Pink Floyd? And so... they are also underrated by the same logic? What about Bach, Vivaldi? Who listens to them?
A great band that created amazing pieces that can never leave their garage... well that's underrated.

    • @davidbarker2585
      @davidbarker2585 8 месяцев назад

I agree. My point was a matter of opinion. I'd wager almost every 20-year-old knows about Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and yes, Pink Floyd.
To put Placebo in perspective, according to a quick Google AI search: "Placebo is ranked 345th in the overall artist rankings with a total rank score of 5,893. Their best album, Without You I'm Nothing, is ranked 825th in the overall greatest album chart with a total rank score of 2,200."
Personally, Placebo is in my top 10 bands. And IMO they should be better well known.

@Way to Mars oh I definitely agree on that it's tiring and boring. Just being a normal human is tiring and boring, because the majority of humankind never seems to change at its core so you end up feeling alone unless you're lucky and meet&attract many good ppl. But, regarding what you wrote:
It has to be done. Giving up completely is not an acceptable option, that's right. Although the (start of the) end could be very close, with the environmental issues that will only get worse in the following years, triggering fatal consequences.
Many ppl are (more) understanding at least during this time, or try to be.
And, maybe if good ppl would finally use the internet to truly organize and unite (kinda like the bad guys do, who spread and multiply their hate and shallow insecurities, and vote for the likes of Trump and Bolsonaro and other power hungry warmongers who just crave money and control over everything and everyone) instead of just having selfish ambitions and being divided because they don't agree completely, they'd decide to go on a huge worldwide strike and demand/achieve changes in practice. After all the system works thanks to the people.
I still think the good+smart are very few to manage to do something serious like that, but we aren't even trying. We're crippled by depression and anxiety exactly because we aren't trying. It's a vicious cycle and it has to be broken. But we don't seem ready yet, the immaturity is real.
Well, if the plan is to do drugs, drink and swallow meds to make the pharmaceutical companies richer, and then pray to be put out of our misery by a virus or by the fascists, methane and the collapse of nature in general, starvation, etc tho, okay... I can relate to giving up too. Just, not yet. I'm too young to think this way, dunno about you. I might be extra exhausted the last 2 years, but yeah. I prefer to keep waiting for the miracle; that we'll wake up and fight back.
