What powerful, moving and extremely relatable lyrics. This song is so humbling. Everything that I am, all the good that you see in me and all the amazement you feel when I speak the words of Christ, it has nothing to do with me or was by be. All the glory belongs to Christ and what He did for humanity. I only held a nail that day as He hung on the cross for my sins. He extended forgiveness nevertheless when I came to Him for mercy. "The art that I create is only a faded reflection of what He's already made." Whatever I do, Christ did it first, I'm merely His vessel as He continues to carry out His work in me. I don't have any reason to boast. I only boast in the cross of Christ.
all of their demos r awesome, i wish they had put them on the cd!!!!!!!! all of the songs have such deep and true meaning, and i luv this 1 a lot!!!! The fact that they r a Christian rock band makes them even better, God worked through this band and actually saved my life!!!!!! TY SOOOOOO MUCH FLYLEAF!!!!! FLYLEAF ROX ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!w.-
i love this song so much. I love all flyleaf songs, but this song really showes her humility. She keeps getting glory for her songs and voice, but she says she cant take it. the words are God's. she just was holding the pen when it came down onto paper. I love how she is so down to earth. I know she says she cant take any of the glory, but I cant help but give her props. but the props go to god too. he saved her and she wouldnt be able to hold the pen today w/ out him.
וואו', שיר מדהים. כמה ענווה יש בחברי הלהקה המדהימה הזו. WOW , It's a beautiful creation. Flyleaf, you are amazing. How much modesty. There was so much power in simple words and a strong faith.. !!! You are the best band.
Flyleaf's album is my favorite of all time every song is great but there unreleased songs that didnt make the album are even better like this. Cant wait for there new cd
WOW....I am in love with this song!! i have known about Flyleaf for a few years now but i have never really listened to much of thier old stuff..how wrong i was...lol...there is something about these vocals that just draw you into the song...excellent!
I adore this band, and this song. Before, I was feeling kinda lost and was slowly losing my faith but when i found flyleaf i instantly fell in love with their music. 1 day i actually paid attention to the lyrics of their songs i just felt so touched and it made me want to be a better christian
it's about how she doesn't deserve the credit of her talent becuz God is the one that gave it all to her. It's pretty much talking about how God has blessed her.
Ironic that their name is Flyleaf. As if when you would open the story to this bands life I feel like this would be published right on the flyleaf of the book.
I love this song, its one of my faves. I can definently relate to it. Lacey's pretty much saying in the song that she doesnt deserve all the credit for the music she writes. That God gifted her with the ability and that she's using it to praise him, espicially since most/all of Flyleafs songs have religious bases, if not striaght out praising him. I can definently relate to this song in perticular because I love 2 write, and Im thankful tht God gave me this gift.
Nicely put trisha. That is correct, she is the pen, but not the inspiration behind it. She attributes her gift as God's gift to her, that God deserves the credit behind her success.
i think this song is absoultely magical. it is lovely to every possible degree. it truely shows Flyleaf is not a selfish band. They believe God gave them the skills they have and they are absolutely correct. i thank God for Flyleaf! he created an amazing band that as changed my life forever, God Bless.
Lol,I see you once again. Hello there! =) And music IS a great gift! =) I would be nothing without music. Life would be soo boring if we didn't have music.
officially BLOWN away. i had shivers and goose bumps from beginning to end. That was unbelievably brave and so brilliantly put. i am just taken by that
I'll always remember you Katt, sorry for screwing up so badly. I could have kept you in my life but I made sure I couldn't/ Maybe for the best, and either way. Years of memories. This always makes me think of the day we walked the dry creek bed I'm back in the room I was when I was in college, life is silly and you were gold. I hope life is well for you
I totally agree with you on this. I always hate how the usual songs are all pretty much a facade. I like Flyleaf cuz they're very straightforward and pretty much tell it as it is. I also think a lot of songs make it where they don't sin and sometimes they take the credit, where Flyleaf pretty much is saying "I wouldn't be here without HIM, I refuse to take the credit. I'm imperfect" I love it
StopWatch60 hit the nail on the head with his assesment of this song. My favorite Flyleaf song...I would flip out if I heard them bust this one out live!
This song is so true, God gives us the talent to do something, and usually we just take the credit for it. Its good that Lacey tells everybody that she doesnt deserve the credit, everyone thinks , wow such talent, and they dont even take a minute to realize that it was God who gave her the talent. Awesome song.
I'm glad that made you feel better. I see so many women, especially young ladies only focused on the outside. I find a woman interesting when she has refined her mind, her heart, her soul.
they actually have a lot of older songs from their days as passerby army that aren't published. i'm not sure how old this one is, but it's not a new song. i think they should publish an album of all their old stuff though, because it rocks!! penholder is one of my favorite songs!!
Thanks for telling me that! I was going crazy not finding the song on i-tunes!! Thanks!! But gosh I can't wait that long for it to come out!! haha. God Bless!
When you accept God into your life, have a relationship with Him and start to notice daily the things he does for you...you know He's real. When maricles happen and you are touched by the holy spirit and seen what the Spirit has done in others physically, emotionally, psychologically...you know He's real. When you see that one flower admist the weeds, you know he's real.
i love this song. you know flyleaf almost quit because someone told them they did this for themselves not God. This song TOTALLY proves that wrong! Flyleaf keep on shining!
No. She's talking about how she's NOT God, just because she spreads her interpretation of his messages. She's simply a "penholder", who doesn't "deserve" all the credit, because she draws so much inspiration from HIM, that it's basically plagiarism: "And all the art that I supposedly create.... is simply a faded reflection, of something he's already made."
Flyleaf is just sick. (in a good way) I mean really...how an anyone NOT like them?? They just rock. Thanks God for bringing them together to share You in the music they play!
manifests itself in any way, whether musical or lyrical. As a musician myself, I rarely write anything without first being inspired by some source. Then once it starts the ball just keeps rolling, it takes very little effort, as if somebody else is in fact writing the song along with you.
You aint alone, I feel the same way and i always thought Mitch was the fucking MAN! But when I learned that Lacey left Flyleaf, I teared up a little and when Mitch died, my reaction was simply "Well ... damn." And the Rev died before I got into A7x so I really cant say much about him. RIP Mitch Adam Lucker and Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. Also God bless their souls and God bless Lacey on her "new horizon" in life. All 3 of them RULE!!!
You know whats great? music. music is great. what is also wonderful is going through life without knowledge of any real questions. we stumble around in the dark until we die and see the light. then we will get it all, or perhaps we won't care. i know i don't really care whats next. whatever it is, it is. just listen to the music.
you are partially right, she is being humble in saying that she doesn't deserve the credit and praise, but she doesn't say it comes naturally, the line "I'll show you what he did," is referring to God. All she is doing is passing along the praise she gets from people to whom she thinks deserves it for giving her what she is. It's a praise song, she later even talks about his mercy... believe it or not
After watching this I really regret not going to Flyleaf last summer hahaha While this song has a really Christian message, to me it seems like it can be applied in a much broader sense. Like, while it may be God who is in fact doing the work while she just holds the pen, that kind of inspiration can come from absolutely anywhere. That is one of the plus sides of music with Christian themes, they really extend above and beyond that - the inspiration could come from a friend or loved one and
i think she's saying that she cant take the glory for all of her songs, because although she held the pen and wrote them, she feels that god deserves the credit.
they are my insperation when i make a song ore write poem ore something. and if i'm not writing poems ore songs i enjoy there music. and i can't get them out of my head. there just fantastic!
Damn, this song is so powerful. In regard to the comments about how Flyleaf is awful, I wholly disagree; but I do respect that you're entitled to your opinion. I feel VERY strongly that this band is amazing, and would love to tell you how wrong you are based on my feelings, but frankly, I don't think Flyleaf wants us to impose their music upon people. If people find it and like it, then they find it and like it; that's that.
AND in the beginning of the song, he isn't capitalized, however near the end He's capitalized therefore this user didn't make a mistake when he should be capitalized. =P Nice vid i love the way this song illustrates her life in a way...its fucking awesome
One of the Flyleaf guys said on the flyleaf website said their songs are very influenced by their faith, but they refuse to use their God as a marketing ploy. Sometimes the song is a "me to God" perspective, for example Perfect, All Around Me, and Red Sam, and sometimes they're more about being in a place, or being affected by a place, which isn't "healthy" such as "I'm So Sick" and "Breathe Today." But all of their songs are laced with words that reflect their faith.
It’s 2022 and this is still one of my favorite Flyleaf songs. It always feels the same as when I heard it in 2007🙏🏼❤️
I love her so much she’s so humble. Been rocking w them since 2008

Nuts! Your YT account is hella old. Sadly, Flyleaf isn't what they used to be.
Stay corona free my man.

Here in 2022! I grew up listening to flyleaf and now as a singer/songwriter this song means so much more to me.
Man Flyleaf songs always have an effect on me...
they always make me feel weird.
and see the world for what it really is.
this song is so beautiful !!
Has to be one of my favorite flyleaf songs of all time!!!
it's about how she doesn't deserve the credit of her talent becuz God is the one that gave it all to her. It's pretty much talking about how God has blessed her.

God doesn't look at the outside, He looks at our heart. He created us for His purpose as a beautiful vessel for Him to fill. Joh 14:6

I'm so glad you posted this song and it's lyrics. I love it.

"Is simply a faded reflection of something He's already made." I never though so in depth about that before! :D
i love this they should be more famous than any pop singer or rap artist
This song is so true, God gives us the talent to do something, and usually we just take the credit for it. Flyleaf isn't the same without Lacey.

i love this song. you know flyleaf almost quit because someone told them they did this for themselves not God. This song TOTALLY proves that wrong! Flyleaf keep on shining!
this song is life ❤❤❤❤
one of my favorites songs !
Penholder- she's talking about how God directs or lives, like a writer holding a pen :) it's all in the title
Apply it to ye life however it fits .... but yes like all her songs about god
Ich muss es die ganze zeit hören.. es ist so schön *--* ♥
