In my opinion it's directed at hip hop. In 25 to life he raps about what hip hop has done to him. So when he's digging in the intro he's digging up hip hop and ready to go back into it. Like, "I hate what you've done to me, I hate you, but I need you."

Making Revival was the best thing that ever happened to Em. After The Eminem Show, I was convinced he was untouchable. Then he became his own worst enemy. When he put out revival, I'm so happy people hated it. It gave us what we have now, shout out to the haters...you got me thinking he is untouchable again.
You're so correct when you said he's too lyrical & uses too many double & triple entendres that the average listener will not catch, so the younger kids thinks he's wack and don't give him the respect he deserves.

I may just be a stupid crazy Stan. I was 13 when SSLP came out and from that day I love this Em's work. That being said I fucking loved Revival, FUCKING love it. I'll say it's not my favorite, but that us SOLELY because music (for me i guess) is a TIME and it is A PLACE combined together to create an emotion. Eminiem Show is my favorite album, but guess what? That time was 2003 and that place (mentally) was me as a senior in high school. I look back on Revival and listen to it (often) as i do with the rest of his shit and I still love the HELL out of it. But you know what isn't quite as nostalgic? Revival's time was 2016, I'm a grown ass man and the place (again mentally, not physically) i was at just purchasing my first house filling out forms and shit. To me those deep feelings are quite different. But the music and his messages are still as good and consistent as ever ever. Lastly then i'll shut-up with this rant. Let's look at Relapse (fucking love that album) was panned, hell even Em got on board with the relapse hate from time to time. 2020 vs 2012, how Relapse is seen now. Look how what it's influenced. There is practically a sub-genre of rap that was SOLELY influenced by that album. Since Relapse is a bit older and you may have not listened to it in a while, go pop in it and you'll be like "damn, he right. This fire". /rant
