This is "the" greatest live performance I have ever seen, equalled only by Je t'aime, another epic performance from her, I have listened to this performance over one thousand times now & it makes my eye's well up & leak water every time, "Angelina Jordan" is the only other performer that comes close to Lara's level of ability, control, emotion & amazing voice, oh & that breath control & the subtleties Lara put in there are mind-blowing.
Wow you really made me smile. Memories here. My family is from Quebec and I spoke French at home first even though we were living in Massachusetts. My memere (grandmother) loves Lara Fabien. I have taken memere to see her several times. I was 20 in 1997. You remember what we were like at that age? Loved our mothers and grandmothers but going to concerts with them? Come on now lol. Anyway, we were at a family reunion in Three Rivers Quebec. Lara had moved to Canada a couple years before. She had a concert scheduled in Montreal. Memere wanted me to go with her and it was strongly encouraged by my parents. I did have a fun time and I knew it meant a lot to her. Well, that's not true. She was (is) a big hit in Belgium, Eastern Europe, and France before she went to Canada. I actually think being in Canada has hurt her career because she is always compared to Celine, whom I consider to be a lesser singer.

They tried to pigeonhole her as a dance, pop music Queen and that didn't work out for a number of reasons, which included the fact that Lara as a songwriter/singer resisted this limitation on her art. Her success in Eastern Europe through collaboration with Igor Krutoy came much later. She lives up the street from me in Westmount (Montreal) with her husband and daughter and is often seen out shopping; always a smile, friendly, outgoing.

My family is from Quebec and I spoke French at home first even though we were living in Massachusetts. My memere (grandmother) loves Lara Fabien. I have taken memere to see her several times. I was 20 in 1997. You remember what we were like at that age? Loved our mothers and grandmothers but going to concerts with them? Come on now lol. Anyway, we were at a family reunion in Three Rivers Quebec. Lara had moved to Canada a couple years before. She had a concert scheduled in Montreal. Memere wanted me to go with her and it was strongly encouraged by my parents. I did have a fun time and I knew it meant a lot to her.
She is 89 now and I love that lady more than I can possibly express. Thank you for the reaction. This song came off the most recent album from back then. I have known it for years.
I was going to write some thanks and praise in French but why make you use a translator? Instead I will just say, I love that you are open to music and content outside of your experience. That's a lesson memere taught me all those years ago. Leave your comfort zone. You might be surprised.

This song was written by Serge Lamas in 1973 and later popularized by Dalida but Lara made it her own with this performance as she goes so deep into her emotions that it took her a minute to recover after singing it. Actually, this whole concert “From Lara with Love” is sheer perfection and so emotional, and i do recommend you react to other performances from that concert with songs like Adagio, Caruso, Broken vow, Perdere l’amore, and You’re not from here.

Well, that's not true. She was (is) a big hit in Belgium, Eastern Europe, and France before she went to Canada. I actually think being in Canada has hurt her career because she is always compared to Celine, whom I consider to be a lesser singer.

@@davidcullen6797 No. She had relatively minor success in Belgium when she decided with Rick Allison to move to Quebec at age 19/20, and did the bar circuit and local TV for 9 years before becoming a so-called 'overnight' success. Then to France when she signed with Polydor. At that point, she became a star in French worldwide. The American interest in Lara was sparked by her success in France and Quebec had nothing to do with it. They tried to pigeonhole her as a dance, pop music Queen and that didn't work out for a number of reasons, which included the fact that Lara as a songwriter/singer resisted this limitation on her art. Her success in Eastern Europe through collaboration with Igor Krutoy came much later. She lives up the street from me in Westmount (Montreal) with her husband and daughter and is often seen out shopping; always a smile, friendly, outgoing.

The original song is from French singer Serge Lama released in 1973, but Lara's version from 1994 on her album Carpe Diem is the best version I know. I remember when her album was released, at home in Québec province, Canada, it was an instant smash hit. Even though she is from Belgium, she had moved to Montréal and we adopted her as our own.

At this time in her life Lara was going through a period of depression and contemplated suicide, but picked herself up and carried on. For a REAL tearjerker please review her "Je Taime" performance where the audience took over and showed her how much she is loved. As a 78 year old man, I can't help but think how ANY man could treat this gorgeous creature badly. By the way, she sings in 8 languages.
