    30:55 a member of the church of Rome says hi!
    Speaking of, do you have thoughts on the suggestions proposed by the document "the bishop of Rome"? I know it isn't magisterial, but I like the proposals on how to change the internal organization of the church to better approach ecumenical dialogue. Maybe there are some practical reasons they couldn't or shouldn't be applied that you could think of.

      It's a long document, and I'm afraid I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but it may contain some useful suggestions (and some that are less so).

    Read Athanasius on this. The atonement was for the purpose of restoring justice, a justice which could not be achieved by man alone. Since man, a finite being, had committed a sin of infinite evil (due to its being committed against an infinite being), there was no way for man to pay the infinite debt due to God for our transgression. The solution: the god-man, a being with the infinite worth to satisfy the debt, but who was at the same time truly a (mere) man. He was a gift to man, in that man didn't merit him, and he was given as a sacrifice, in that the penalty of death incurred in Adam's sin had to be overcome by Christ's dying.

    It would be totally arrogant of us to assume that the God who created all of our beautiful, complex world, creatures and humanity; that we are the ONLY intelligent creatures He has created.

    • @jimnewl
      @jimnewl 3 месяца назад +5

      Why?
      And for the record, we're not the only intelligent beings God has created. Between God at the top and us at the bottom are the angels.

      @@jimnewl we're not at the bottom, God created us to dominate the Earth, which means crops and animals are beneath us.

      I agree. And it doesn't conflict with my belief at all. Who are we to put linits on what God can or cannot do?

    Confuse The Jehovah's Witnesses with this question""show me a scripture from the new world translation where Jesus say"s Jehovah IS MY FATHER or the name of MY FATHER is Jehova"" if you can then we can go further if you can't show me a scripture' then the conversation stops here""" They can't show you the scripture iiii

    I wonder if Jimmy will endorse Kamala Harris for president?

    • @JimmyAkin
      @JimmyAkin  3 месяца назад +8

      No. I don't know why you'd say that, especially given that I NEVER make endorsements of parties or candidates. That's off-mission for me and would interfere with my primary mission of apologetics/evangelization by alienating half the people I'm trying to reach.

      To clarify for anybody else reading this, Jimmy is taking this stance because he doesn't want to risk Catholic Answers losing its 501(c)(3) status. For the rest of us lay people who don't work for a non-profit, we absolutely have the right to live openly as Catholics and share our political opinions in the public square. We can endorse parties or candidates. Our founding fathers intended all citizens to have the equal right to voice their opinions, including those based on religious convictions. Such speech is protected from the state by the First Amendment.

      @@Artifex-h2y I appreciate your advocacy of free speech. However, it's not about the 501(c)(3) status when it comes to my own RUclips channel. This is my space, not Catholic Answers', and it would be perfectly possible for me to specify that I am NOT speaking for Catholic Answers and then make any political endorsements I chose. My refusal to make political endorsements is mission-driven, not tax-driven. I can serve more people, from more perspectives, if I keep my political life and my apologetics/evangelization separate. I would take the same approach if (here's hoping) the ridiculous Johnson Amendment is one day repealed.

I do not like Kamala nor do i like trump and you are one of my favorites youtubers and one of the reasons why i decided to convert, if you had said vote for trump or x candidate it would had really bummed me out and other listeners who not like trump!@JimmyAkin
