    Thanks for the video. I grow watermelon every year. I've got seed starts going in the house right now. Our last frost date is April 29 so my starts should be a good size. I like the idea of black plastic around the plants for ground warmth. I've never done that before but it's a good idea as mine are always a little stunted in the beginning of the season. I'm in Illinois.

  • @lane4574
    @lane4574 5 лет назад +2

    Here's a little friendly tip for all of you. Add some bone meal also and the secret for transplant shock is Vitamin B1. It will help it from being stunted for about 2 weeks to only a couple of days. And I usually add a thin layer of non fertilized soil between the roots and the fertilizer I add to the hole, just in case its a little strong and wont burn a young tender transplant. Later on it will not have to go far to find dinner. Thanks Cali Kim..I grew up in Ventura county . I miss the weather now that its finally raining again down there. QUADS....

    You know, question. So this is my first year with a watermelon garden in Minnesota and we’ve had excellent success. My question (also something I’ve been doing) is, do you sip your watermelons? I’ve been turning mine so the white side is up and as it turns green, I turn them again, throughout the year! Our watermelons have been pretty consistent green on all sides. Btw, had a 14 1/2lb melon a couple weeks ago! Good luck over there! ✌️

    I planted sunflowers a while ago, and some are already a few feet tall. Some didn't make it. So i planted some more seeds and then a slug came along! and it just ate away at the stem of my sunflower seedling. I thought that i was just gonna have to plant another seed but i put the fallen over seedling in water. and wow! just like the basil and mint it grew new roots! I replanted it in the garden today and got rid of all those nasty baby slugs! Thanks kim and camera guy love your videos!!! super inspirational :-)

    Even though old vid I just planted some watermelons. I'm doing more than last year.And wanted to see your vids since I Am also a cali person. grandfather taught me that you should always take the plant out of the container it is in and loosen the root before planting in the ground. I usally loosen the plant before i plant it where I am going to plant it. Will my watermelon be ok?
