I lived in Kildrum, Cumbernauld just a few streets away & we were classmates at the High School & would walk to school together with James Sharp. Jimmy & I were a bit shy, not so James. Don't forget Thunderclap Newman & "Something in the Air" a classic one hit wonder. Pete Townshend produced them & Jimmy was lead guitar & played super-happy.

It don't matter if the list is by the Rolling Stone or some other aficionado expert fan rag, just the fact that Jimmy never cracks into their top 100 never mind 10 rock guitarist of all time speaks volumes. Because other than Hendrix there were only a handful of other guitarist that could send, Page, Beck, and Clapton secretly running back to their own guitars to practice (Thompson, Tolson, Kossof, come to mind) but even as a teenager Mcculloch commanded that kind of respect...

Jimmy didn't say anything bad about Linda. It was something along the lines of "Although Linda doesn't know much about music she's really a nice chick."
He liked her as a person, just not as a musician which is understandable.

ALL these isolated tracks on youtube are taken from split audio parts that were supplied for GUITAR HERO and ROCK BAND games. They need to have certain parts distinct so you could drop them in/out depending on the game play. Also you hear electric piano and synthesizer after the solo - sometimes they shared a track on the tape between instruments to leave room for other parts.

@ZenDriveSeven There's another video of this song on YT. Check out the live version from Australia & look around 4:00. You can see Denny Laine doing this part on the doubleneck...it looks like he's fingerpicking this part & Jimmy is doing the power chords.

A lot of the isolated tracks on YT come from conversions from the master tapes for Guitar Hero video game, all with the okay of the owners of the music. I don't know if this is the case here, but it sure sounds clean, and it's cool that we can still hear the rest of the music, albeit quieter, like a sheet of tracing paper.

So why isn’t the UL person not citing where they nick’d this recording? Is JF even on any of the Guitar Video games???? If so, I’d say that would be the source since I seriously doubt this Rocket was ever recorded in Mono

@kennyjb2362 You're probably correct on how JM's guitar was isolated. I wish that it could be possible to isolate each one of the band members to hear exactly what they are playing; a gestalt perspective of the musical arrangement. Singled out, it would be very hard to identify such a song as this just by listening to each instrument separately. Paul's singing ties everything together. I'm very impressed with how JM played w/out throwing everything out of balance. Good musicianship.

I know that was pretty much of what he used in Thunderclap newman when I saw them live. Seemed like he played marshall cabinets but we saw no amp heads with wings in 1977

@unclejuniorsoprano My guess is that this track was recorded solo, taken off the original studio tape all by itself, not processed from the final mix as you seem to imply. This was done by someone who had access to the original multi-track tape from the studio - I don't know of any technology that can so completely isolate a track from a previously mixed recording. But if I'm wrong, please tell ME how they did it, because I have some real uses for that kind of technology!

This debate about Linda Eastman is surreal. She's only know because of her marriage to Macca. No offence to her or Sir Mack, but she plays a bit part in The Beatles story and her membership of Wings is surely tongue-in-cheek. Perhaps a novelty, like the expressionless keyboard player in Sparks or Bez from the Happy Mondays.

Smells, sounds and looks fishy to me. Love the idea of hearing the isolated instrument. If it is of JC, why do we hear Denny Laines solo? I am suspicious that it is an outake of guitar parts or some player played parts note for note and dubbed it into this vid.
