Derik, when your foot is purple you're having trouble with your circulation. If you don't have good circulation, you won't heal as fast. You need to stay off your feet. Stop doing as much as you're trying to do. Don't take care of the kids by yourself until you are alot better.This is your healing time. Dont screw it up by being on your feet too much. A caring fan.
Sometimes it isn’t realistic to have help. In a perfect world we’d all have help when it’s needed like this but that’s just not most ppls reality. I’m not commenting to hate on your comment I honestly see u r just bring a caring person. Sarah needs alone time too to be the best she can be too. In reality I think she really needed it 3 days isnt long especially when you been soo selfkess for months and months. Hopefully those 3 days refilled her cup enough to finish out his recovery but who knows we aren’t her. His health providers should have given him compression socks. That’s all. It’s only the brace and gravity that does that to his foot. His foot is not compromised.

I just wouldn’t have been able to leave my husband to take care of himself and the kids while so young and he’s recovering from a major surgery. It doesn’t mean she shouldn’t leave and have time for herself, but maybe plan it out better. Have it so that someone can be there to help him and take care of all of them like they need. Yes he’s strong and resilient but that man will continue to break if you don’t TIP the scales. It is NOT always 50/50. Sometimes it’s 60/40, 80/20 and you have to be there for your partner to get them back to their 50 and they must do that for you. I get that they’re young, I’m not even sure what ages they are, but I’m 25 with two kids and married for YEARS now and I can say, I love my husband so much that I understand sacrifices should be made for your partner and they should go both ways. You don’t need to leave every few weeks for days at a time to have you time while he’s busy healing like this, you could go out for the whole day instead and do that frequently. He needs to work on healing and what you guys have been doing doesn’t seem to be helping him make progress bc he keeps standing on that leg for long periods and doing things in the house that he should be sitting out right now. Please consider water therapy if you aren’t doing it already. Just walking in a pool holding onto the side can be very beneficial for you or floating for a while. I hope he stays healed after this one and doesn’t end up in the same situation next time bc it will be worse as time goes on. And surgery won’t be able to fix the damage that is being done.

Great job Daddy! I'm just going to say one thing. I have had the same operations as you and when the Dr. Tells you to stay off your leg, he means it! You should not be doing stairs while you are trying to heal your knee... And the possibilities of you falling are much greater and what would the kids do if you hit your head and passed out? I understand that Sarah needs her me time but maybe she could make plans after you heal. You needed to be off your leg while it heals, period.Thank God for your mom coming to help you, and you did a great job DERIK I just hope your knee heal the way it wasn't supposed to.. Absolutely NO justification for Sarah leaving Derik with the kids while he's recovering! She's been on 3-4 trips recently. One trip was a flight to another state to get her hair dyed!!
Stop feeling guilty Derik. Your knee injuries were an accident. It's not like you intentionally intended to hurt yourself. I hope your physical therapy will help you regain the strength and mobility you need in your knee. Through all of this remember marriage is for better or for worse and if one spouse has to give 100% more than the other spouse is able to do at the time then that is what you do without complaining and trying to make the injured spouse feel guilty. The reality is being a team in that when one person is having a rough day or is sick, the other has to give a little more. But that doesn’t mean breaks aren’t deserved. I’d imagine he likely has some help within those days Sarah was gone.
Wow, so many opinionated experts on here? One of the big reasons they left Hawaii was to be close to family and family stepped up big time. My mother was run ragged with my siblings and me while dad was working on the road and on call on weekends. Mom ended up having a nervous breakdown, spent 3 months in an asylum having 14 shock therapy treatments and was never the same. My siblings and I were sent to various relatives over several states. Sarah deserves and needs a break and 4 lousy days is not going to kill anyone with all Derek’s siblings and parents on hand. We don’t see how much time Derek is elevating his leg because he isn’t filming it. Plus, no one is forcing him to film. The children are the happiest, most loved children so stop with the nasty comments.
Totally agree. When the doctor says stay off your knee and don't stress them! That is exactly what they mean. I cringe when I see video of you walking down stairs with child in hand. That is putting immense stress and pressure on your knee joints. You are not doing yourself any favors by trying to take on extra parenting duties...especially while your lovely wife takes off for 4 days and leaves a man recov🎉🎉ering from a second knee surgery in charge of two small children😂😂 I have had six knee surgeries and an ankle reconstruction. So, I do well understand the predictament you're in. I even awoke from one knee surgery to find out I was now non weight bearing for over three months. I had no prior knowledge because the surgeon discovered something mid surgery and took an extra step. I lived alone, and it was difficult, but I made it through the process. Knees really need time to heal...following doctor's orders to the tee. Also every time you have surgery you have more arthritis and scar tissue that builds up. Sometimes, you have to just firmly say NO to other people's requests who seemingly dont understand the healing process. Your future progress is at stake. Be well in Jesus healing name! 😊

The only thing that worried me was Sunny sleeping downstairs, all by herself, while Sarah was away. (Or even when she’s there, really). What happens if there’s an emergency? Fire, break-in, bad weather, etc. There would have been NO WAY you could get to both kids in time and carry them both to safety. Maybe, next time have Sunny sleep with you or set up a temporary crib/playpen in your room. And, possibly, think about putting her in a room upstairs, all the time. It’s hard enough for two functioning people to act quickly, think rationally, and safely in an emergency situation. 🫶🏼
I don't think anyone is trying to shame them, just truly concerned for tiny little Sunny and all of them as a family. The sleeping arrangement for Sunny has been discussed several times by viewers, who have offered different solutions; but ultimately the decision belongs to the parents and only them.
If you’re not the parent or the person who has to actually deal with it on an everyday basis just keep it to yourself. They get it, they’ve seen it just let it go already.
This is ridiculous. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, would leave their spouse who is recovering from knee surgery and can’t get around very well with a baby and a preschooler. As a mother I would be afraid something could happen to the kids and their father couldn’t get to them fast enough. I can’t believe Derick went along with this. I think he does whatever Sarah says and doesn’t stand up to her. She is constantly on vacation. Why bother getting married and having kids if you don’t want to take care of anyone other than yourself? She acts like she is the only one to ever have given birth or raise children. They are really not that much of a chore to be around. It’s actually kind of fun spending time with them at home, just doing normal things.

Playing on the floor will build your bond greater than anything. This time seems the hardest, but it’s actually the easiest. Time will pass by quicker than you can ever imagine. The kids will be planning their proms and you’ll look at each other and say, Where has time gone 😢😊 many mixed feelings and emotions. Derik your Mom looks young.
Jack is absolutely adorable!!! Sunny is so precious as well. I will say I do happen to agree with some of the comments. I wouldn’t leave my two toddlers with a husband on crutches. I’m sure it’s been hard on Sarah for 8 weeks but this is immature and selfish on her part.

As a doctor i can say that with this knee surgery if doesn't got enough rest and if he put much pressure on his knees then he can't recover in future too. He need rest and a nice little walk. While i with walking crutches and want to be independent while moving around at home, honestly it is easy- to say then actually doing it, but i did overcome it... As for you, it is a bit challenging with 2 cute kids and moving around with walking crutches. But you are really managing well. 🙌👏👏👏👏👏👏. Keep up the good job, ya!

Friendly advice coming from a girl that had to be on crutches for 3 months because of knee injury and surgery(but not those but more like the “European ones ?” If that makes sense ahahah, I don’t understand how your shoulders are ok with those crutches ahahha) but that’s not my point ^^ I want to advice you to wear a support stockings ? Sorry if my English is bad but that’s what Google trad said to me ahhaah. It’s a big sock that is gonna compress your leg and make you have a good circulation. Because without putting weight on your leg, you are not putting enough pressure on veins to make your blood come up again, and your leg is getting blue ^^ It’s also gonna help with recovery! The doctors made me wear this all the time until I could put weight on my leg again (so yeah it was loooong) Also : when I was strictly forbidden to put weight on my leg, I was getting down the stairs on my butt and my leg straight up (I was happy because I could “train” my muscles a bit with that technique ahahhaha). I would place my crutches under one arm and then proceed to go on the good leg, two arms and the butt 😂 Keep going, you got this ! I had 2 knee surgeries and know that is hard!
I don't understand how she goes on trips every time you have surgery. I remember her leaving the kids with you last time. I wouldn't say anything but you didn't rest long enough last time and needed another surgery. I just don't want you to mess it up so bad it will never be the same .

It’s in sickness and in health. It’s rough but it’s a commitment before the Lord. Stop apologizing. Sara needs to stop playing martyr. Who knows what might happen to her for an extended period of time. You will be the one holding everyone and everything together. You never know what will happen. Be grateful you have each other. This is painful to watch .. I have had near surgery as well..that purple is your body telling you your pushing it too hard und need to get it up . You are risking permanent damage ...lymphs vascular nerve.. I love you guys but this is just not on .. Sarah is a loving women ..however Derek's leg is in need of serious healing. My goodness bringing up 4 kids myself while hubby worked away its a task but hey organisation is key .. To be honest tennis is not a priority .

It’s not always 50/50.
Sometimes it’s 30/70, sometimes if 60/40. Sometimes one spouse has more capacity on a given day. The reality is being a team in that when one person is having a rough day or is sick, the other has to give a little more. But that doesn’t mean breaks aren’t deserved. I’d imagine he likely has some help within those days Sarah was gone.
Wow, so many opinionated experts on here? One of the big reasons they left Hawaii was to be close to family and family stepped up big time. My mother was run ragged with my siblings and me while dad was working on the road and on call on weekends. Mom ended up having a nervous breakdown, spent 3 months in an asylum having 14 shock therapy treatments and was never the same. My siblings and I were sent to various relatives over several states. Sarah deserves and needs a break and 4 lousy days is not going to kill anyone with all Derek’s siblings and parents on hand. We don’t see how much time Derek is elevating his leg because he isn’t filming it. Plus, no one is forcing him to film. The children are the happiest, most loved children so stop with the nasty comments.

Totally agree. When the doctor says stay off your knee and don't stress them! That is exactly what they mean. I cringe when I see video of you walking down stairs with child in hand. That is putting immense stress and pressure on your knee joints. You are not doing yourself any favors by trying to take on extra parenting duties...especially while your lovely wife takes off for 4 days and leaves a man recov🎉🎉ering from a second knee surgery in charge of two small children😂😂
I have had six knee surgeries and an ankle reconstruction. So, I do well understand the predictament you're in. I even awoke from one knee surgery to find out I was now non weight bearing for over three months. I had no prior knowledge because the surgeon discovered something mid surgery and took an extra step. I lived alone, and it was difficult, but I made it through the process.
Knees really need time to heal...following doctor's orders to the tee. Also every time you have surgery you have more arthritis and scar tissue that builds up. Sometimes, you have to just firmly say NO to other people's requests who seemingly dont understand the healing process. Your future progress is at stake. Be well in Jesus healing name! 😊

The only thing that worried me was Sunny sleeping downstairs, all by herself, while Sarah was away. (Or even when she’s there, really). What happens if there’s an emergency? Fire, break-in, bad weather, etc. There would have been NO WAY you could get to both kids in time and carry them both to safety. Maybe, next time have Sunny sleep with you or set up a temporary crib/playpen in your room. And, possibly, think about putting her in a room upstairs, all the time. It’s hard enough for two functioning people to act quickly, think rationally, and safely in an emergency situation. 🫶🏼

I don't think anyone is trying to shame them, just truly concerned for tiny little Sunny and all of them as a family. The sleeping arrangement for Sunny has been discussed several times by viewers, who have offered different solutions; but ultimately the decision belongs to the parents and only them.
If you’re not the parent or the person who has to actually deal with it on an everyday basis just keep it to yourself. They get it, they’ve seen it just let it go already.

This is ridiculous. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, would leave their spouse who is recovering from knee surgery and can’t get around very well with a baby and a preschooler. As a mother I would be afraid something could happen to the kids and their father couldn’t get to them fast enough. I can’t believe Derick went along with this. I think he does whatever Sarah says and doesn’t stand up to her. She is constantly on vacation. Why bother getting married and having kids if you don’t want to take care of anyone other than yourself? She acts like she is the only one to ever have given birth or raise children. They are really not that much of a chore to be around. It’s actually kind of fun spending time with them at home, just doing normal things.
Thank God for Derek's Mother my brother is in his 70's and his Dr. Sayes no more knee after his 3rd surgery 😢

As a doctor i can say that with this knee surgery if doesn't got enough rest and if he put much pressure on his knees then he can't recover in future too. He need rest and a nice little walk. Derrick, you are doing great. I had my knee surgery when I was 16 years old. Now I'm 42, ha...ha... I fully understand how you feel. While i with walking crutches and want to be independent while moving around at home, honestly it is easy- to say then actually doing it, but i did overcome it... As for you, it is a bit challenging with 2 cute kids and moving around with walking crutches. But you are really managing well. 🙌👏👏👏👏👏👏. Keep up the good job, ya!

Derik ! Friendly advice coming from a girl that had to be on crutches for 3 months because of knee injury and surgery(but not those but more like the “European ones ?” If that makes sense ahahah, I don’t understand how your shoulders are ok with those crutches ahahha) but that’s not my point ^^
I want to advice you to wear a support stockings ? Sorry if my English is bad but that’s what Google trad said to me ahhaah. It’s a big sock that is gonna compress your leg and make you have a good circulation. Because without putting weight on your leg, you are not putting enough pressure on veins to make your blood come up again, and your leg is getting blue ^^
It’s also gonna help with recovery!
The doctors made me wear this all the time until I could put weight on my leg again (so yeah it was loooong)
Also : when I was strictly forbidden to put weight on my leg, I was getting down the stairs on my butt and my leg straight up (I was happy because I could “train” my muscles a bit with that technique ahahhaha). I would place my crutches under one arm and then proceed to go on the good leg, two arms and the butt 😂

I don't understand how she goes on trips every time you have surgery. I remember her leaving the kids with you last time. I wouldn't say anything but you didn't rest long enough last time and needed another surgery. I just don't want you to mess it up so bad it will never be the same .

You don’t *have to* carry Sunny, while on a crutch and trying to make breakfast. Sunny can keep herself busy, with Jack. I know it’s just easier, but not so much when you have to heal.
I would take Sunny out of her sleep sack and she will have more mobility with stairs and walking. You don't need her to do a face plant.
