Excellent talk. The Half Earth conservation plan should become a working doctrine for all lands and waters, in all countries, through united leadership, to foster biodiversity and sustainability of our planet. It's a big, visionary plan and thank you E.O. Wilson for your life's work and thinking on this. Such a plan just might save our precious world, and if we're lucky, our own species.
More people in cities will NOT free more land because they are net importers by definition you still need just as much land just less people to tend it, perhaps more intensively but that has consequences for the surrounding systems also with nutrient runoff etc - especially if everyone in the city wants their hamburgers and chicken wings.
what says Edward O. Wilson is quite true, we all feel it, people must now realize it, then act in the right sense to preserve Biodiversity if not everyone of us will lose everything!

I have been hearing many people talk about their visions for a future planet. The followers of Siddhartha seem to be thinking that we should be thinking about domesticated animals. Reduce suffering. They seem to be saying that wild animals cause suffering. Seems like a conflict. It seems to me that domesticated animals are slaves. What is the solution?
Farming animals for what their produce is truly horrifying, the more you think about it. Heard recently in a podcast that domesticated chickens even are much more fatty/ less muscle on them than their wild counterparts. So tempting to want to save them/ right the system-- but then we should ask "are we ourselves domesticated/ enslaved?" Is probably a spectrum, some of us bits more free than others. But even self employed stil are compelled to act in accord to the market. .. the whole system is messed up

Yeah ... I wish this would happen, it needs to happen, and I think a lot of people would use violence to bring this about ... because most human beings are just ignorant, dangerous, violent and destructive. Terrible.
You are not going to have change this massive without a sea full of bloodshed. You just have to ask yourself. Is the change worth it?
