Nicely done!! Tasteful, and informative! I have been sewing for 40+ years as a hobby, and now have a fiance that is a professional seamstress who has been in business for 30+ years. Sewing for her now is really fun and challenging. She has up'd my standards of execution. Thank you.
Your design here is great! Last summer, I designed and made a cotton slip with a simple shelf bra from 'scratch,' and then sewed the whole slip into my favorite green linen sun dress which has 1' wide shoulder straps. It is now modest enough, and the support is adequate for casual wear, though not good enough to go running in! Before I did this, I had to wear the dress with a short sleeved T-shirt so that I could wear a regular bra.
Thanks Tina ! I'm not sure who designs these strappy dresses with no support, but I feel naked if I don't have some type of bra or support under my clothes. Glad your slip project worked out for you :) Thanks again and I hope you are having a GREAT day! HUGS :)
Thank u thank u. I have 2 dresses I’ve bee struggling with trying to figure out how I can wear it with an uncomfortable strapless bra which I didn’t ant to do. Here is the answer!! Thank u so much
This is SEW awesome!!! Ran across this tutorial today! Absolutely love it! As I am making a dress and needed some padding in it. Great tutorial! Thankyou for sharing! Even if it is nearly 7 years old. Lol.
Rhonda Schaffer I know.....I need to wear a bra with these type dresses and I hate when the back of the dress is so bare that even a strapless bra looks funny. This was easy and I was able to use one of my old sports bras . Thanks again for watching !! HUGS :)
Wow!! I did it!! Thank you so so so much for this. I am NOT a seamstress and it took me all morning but I now have a bra into a spaghetti strapped jumpsuit. Yes!!
Sew Country Studio Thanks sweetie !! I just about spit my coffee out laughing when I read your "I am a proud supporter of the girls".....very clever :) I'm glad you liked the project. Thanks for watching and I hope you are having a BEAUTIFUL day! HUGS :)
I love this! Did you use a straight stitch when sewing the bra onto to the dress? Shouldn’t it be a zigzag stitch to allow for stretching? Thank you!!!
Thank you :) I didn't want to do a zig zag because it would have been too noticable and I was stitching in the ditch below the elastic over a straight stitch that was already there. The dress doesn't fit "tight" so there wouldn't be much pulling on that straight stitch to cause it to break. If the top was tightly fitted, then you are right, zig zag would have been a better option. Thanks for watching !! HUGS :)
+Goon Huay Hong You are welcome and thank you for watching !!! I'm glad you liked this project. I hate wearing bras that show when I'm wearing a spaghetti strap sundress, so this really worked for me. Thanks for watching and I hope you are having a GREAT day! HUGS :)
During the haul where you got this dress didn't you get a bunch of scarves also? I thought I remembered that you said you were going to make a built in bra to go in this dress and also planned some sort of project with the scarves. Did I miss the scarf video or have you put that project aside for awhile or was I dreaming? I have a bunch of scarves that I no longer wear as scarves and I would LOVE to get your idea on what to do with them. If I was dreaming....never mind.
thank you so much I really enjoy the videos of Sewing I really really need a new designs for my company a KY fashion thank you again have a blessed one this is Diva signing off
+Yvonne Jefferson Thanks Yvonne !! I'm glad you liked this project. I hate when I find a great sun dress and it looks funny with any type of bra so this was an easy fix. Thanks again and I hope you had a BEAUTIFUL day! HUGS :)
Thanks Betty ! There are so many cute strappy sun dresses out there and I hate having a bra strap showing or always tugging at my strapless bras to keep them up so I was on a mission to solve this problem and this is what I came up with. Glad yo liked it :) Thanks again and Big HUGS :)
+Rhonda Willis Thanks Rhonda ! Glad you liked this project. I always get nervous wearing those strappy sun dress because I'm afraid I'll have a "peep show" happen if you know what I mean, and they never seem to come with bras built in so that is why I had to make this video. I couldn't stand not having a built in bra and I don't like wearing my strapless one because it shows overtime I raise my arms and its uncomfortable. Hope this helps you out. Thanks for watching and I hope you are having a FABULOUS weekend! HUGS :)
+Paula R. Thank Paula ! I am always struggling when I get a sun dress that my bra always shows through, so this was a challenge for me to figure out a solution where I didn't have to go buy anything to fix it. A little unconventional but it worked. Thanks for watching and I hope you are having a WONDERFUL weekend! HUGS :)
I use the tracing pens from Joann Fabrics. You and open the end and place with any color chalk that is provided. I also use just regular chalk board chalk too, it works just fine as long as you sharpen the points so they are not flat (I just go out on my driveway and sharpen then by scratching the chalk on the cement). Yes, this can be done without a dressform, you would put it on yourself and pin (you may need a friend to help with the back part though...I didn't do that on video because it would be too hard for people to see what I'm doing). Hope this helps. Thanks for watching !! HUGS :)
Olga Bond - An athletic type bra was used as a liner for a very clever quick fix to what appears to be a transparent gauze beach dress. If there was a need for support I'm certain she would have used a bra w/cups ... If that was the case & since there are no straps - silicone gripper elastic would need to be sewn on top of the cups & underneath to keep the bra in place as well as sewn into the seams instead of on top of the fabric to prevent bulk as well as for a clean finish ...

I love this trick . It totally works. I have even gotten the hanes cotton 3 packs so you are even more free of sweating.

Hey! It’s AJ!
Yep :) I also love to sew when I have free time :)
amazing
what type of pen are you using to trace on the clothes? I don't have a mannequin. is it possible to do this well without one?
I use the tracing pens from Joann Fabrics. You and open the end and place with any color chalk that is provided. I also use just regular chalk board chalk too, it works just fine as long as you sharpen the points so they are not flat (I just go out on my driveway and sharpen then by scratching the chalk on the cement). The bra will offer no support at all because you have cut the straps off it! At best you will only feel a bit more covered up.
Aphrodite Lee when you have D cup and up everything is used as support if you don’t have straps then your a walking wardrobe malfunction.
Does the bra color matter?
No, the bra color doesn't matter, but if the dress rolls a little at the top, it might show the bra seam where its joined to the dress.
