This is a real gem. So little live footage of them from this time period and with a drummer. Hard to believe they were playing at Borders in the mid 90’s
I saw them at the Iron Horse in Northampton MA around this time. It was a life-altering show - there's a sweetness, calm and lovely presence that Karen and Don bring into every space they inhabit, and this video gives you a chance to bathe in that splendor for at least a little while.
Dulcet sound waves descend upon my eardrums, like gentle rain. This rain-fall is soft, and I am contented. I close my eyes in peaceful bliss. The sonic pitter-patter drums upon my eyelids, leaving them gleaming. I can sense the warmth of the iridescent halo that surrounds me, like fine gauze. All is well, and The Innocence Mission plays on. -David
Funny, I think this had to be at the Borders bookstore on Coventry Rd in Cleveland Heights… I ended up working right by there from 2001-2006 and I can’t imagine any other place cool enough to have hosted this event 🙌🏼 (Borders has since closed but the Grog Shop is still going strong and hosting live shows!)
Wow, thank you. I have loved them from the beginning.. this album blew me away and sent me to a new space of wonder and enchantment that only can be inhabited by the beauty of innocence :)
This is so amazing. Thank you for sharing. I Loved “Glow” it’s the album when they found their sound. Always wished they kept the drummer though. Such a treat to see this. Never knew it was the bassist singing the harmonies always thought it was Don. I needed this.
Wow -Just stumbled across this. This was the album that got me hooked in the 90's. Can't believe how good the audio is! At a book store - so funny and unexpectedly excellent. So, pure. Thank you so much for holding onto this and then posting it. A precious gem.
I agree, this performance is captured with surprising quality considering the conditions, and the band is playing so well with Karen Peris at her transcendent, glowing best here. My only surprise is that she doesn't speak much or interact with the audience as they go along. She seems shy and sweet, but when she's singing she's enraptured.
Words can’t express what I see with my gang here Karen don and gang I have all my walls in the color and the audio albums photos blown up and framed around my walls with great joy 🥲
We recorded a similar show in Los Angeles around the same time, saw them at the Troubadour the same night. Such a nice group of people. Great show. Thanks for posting
Lucky you. Would you be able to post the recording you made? This kind of intimate setting is so rare and delightful. Hearing Karen Peris live is just an indescribable joy.
Oh wow, what a treat - thanks for posting! This is the same order of the set my wife and I saw them play at The Birchmere in Alexandria, VA on this tour. Memories are flooding back!
I saw them play at Border's Books in Columbus, obviously close in time to this video. I met the band & took pictures & got my CDs autographed. Karen Paris has the voice of angel because she IS an angel. She has an aura of calm beauty.
I miss the 90s. I got to see Jewel and Sixpence None the Richer at one of these "bookstore" concerts. I was one of maybe 10 people in the audience and sat less than 10 feet away from them. Something like that could never happen now.
I don’t understand. Why they don’t play with drums anymore 😞. I d be in any single concert. . If you love this band . Watch this entire concert. The holy grail is here.
Imagine walking into a Borders in the 90s and you hear Karen Peris' voice. That's a spiritual experience.

I miss listening to music without any cell phone interference. Innocence Mission's "Glow" album continues to be one of my all-time favorites.
I mean you should get yourself a turntable or cd/casette player then
There may not be such a thing as magic in the world, but this is close enough.
Well said! The angels in heaven are weeping tears of joy!
big time
Karen Peris has a voice that's just angelic.
What a great view of an intimate performance like this. Karen Peris's voice is so beautiful, so angelic, and fits with her exquisite presence here.
This band reminds me of the times I met my wife and coming up to see her at the weekends in my car. Love them!
That Was Another Country absolutely blows me away.
only just got into this band over the past couple of months..her voice is just the prettiest most comforting thing I've ever heard.
This is a real gem. So little live footage of them from this time period and with a drummer. Hard to believe they were playing at Borders in the mid 90’s
I first discovered them at a Borders bookstore 😇
This is fantastic. They really shared a lot of musical DNA with The Sundays at this point, no bad thing at all.
"Keeping Awake" is a complete masterpiece!!!!

I first saw them open for Natalie Merchant at the Warner Theater in DC.
Been a fan for 25+ years...A truly life changing band...
God Bless you Karen Don Mike..

Don looks at Karen during the soft spoken stylized vocals of Keeping Awake and all is right with the world.

The quarantine feels so much easy now. Thank you so much for this.
aw geez, how great was the 90s and being able to see such insanely talented artists for free at the Borders Bookstores....lol
Wow, thank you. I have loved them from the beginning.. this album blew me away and sent me to a new space of wonder and enchantment that only can be inhabited by the beauty of innocence :)
They're amazing. Even on VHS.
Wow- lovely performance! Thanks for posting
I was one and a half when this was filmed. So happy to have access to this now after finding their music in my adulthood. Thank you for uploading
I wanna get in a time machine and be there😌to see them live. What a wonderful songbird..Melts my heart😌everytime I hear that magical voice..
Their version of “Moon River” is just mesmerizing.
The recorded version seems even better to me, but it's great to hear Karen Peris singing it here.

Oh those mid 90s. Maybe if there is an afterlife I'll get to dwell in some idealized version of them.
Beautiful prestation my goodness!!! thanks for sharing!!! Greetings from Québec city Cheers!!!
Opening with Surreal, WOW! Chills.

It sounds like a concert hall. But her voice she can sing from a garbage truck and be mesmerizing

@@it3257 So true. Karen's voice is so beautiful and matches her presence here which is just joyful to the hilt.
Wow. "That was another country" indeed.
Was it Canada? The country the US could've been?
Words can’t express what I see with my gang here Karen don and gang I have all my walls in the color and the audio albums photos blown up and framed around my walls with great joy 🥲
A band at the peak of their powers.

So, about that LA recording... Any chance of it seeing the light of day here?
Was it at Borders on La Cienega? :D
Lucky you. Would you be able to post the recording you made? This kind of intimate setting is so rare and delightful. Hearing Karen Peris live is just an indescribable joy.
Thanks for posting this vid! Wow the sound is good for vhs!

I saw them perform at the Birchmere as well. I believe that was back in the '80's.
The cover of Moon River is Amazing!!! Thanks for the post, I love them too!!!
I saw them at The Phantasy in Lakewood in 1995. It was an unforgettable night!
I was there too! I got them to sign a poster...such a great memory.
Our band Public Library opened up for them at that show. Happen to remember us at all? 😊
I literally could listen to “That Was Another Country” play on a continuous loop day and night…
Oh my gosh these versions are so nice! I'm so glad you had great audio of this concert!
Thanks for posting...I love this band
Magical and light and beautiful.
