- Usucha vs Koicha 🍵 | On Tea Day, we’re sharing two different ways you can prepare a traditional cup of matcha- usucha and koicha. Depending on your preference and the occasion, you can enjoy it with a thinner or thicker consistency. Either way, matcha is a great choice to celebrate today!
Usucha
- 1 tsp Matcha.com drinking or ceremonial grade matcha powder
- 60ml hot water
Koicha
- 2 tsp Matcha.com ceremonial grade matcha powder
- 30ml hot water
- Start by preparing the hot water.
- Pour water into a temperature-controlled kettle, and let it boil until reaches 175F.
- Soak your bamboo whisk in hot water to soften the prongs, and set it aside.
- Next, choose a ceremonial grade matcha powder.
- Grab a bowl and a sifter.
- To make the usucha, scoop 1 tsp or 2g of matcha.
- Sift to remove any clumps.
- Add 60ml of hot water to the bowl.
- Whisk vigorously until frothy.
- To make the koicha, sift 2 tsp or 4g of matcha into the chawan.
- Add 30ml hot water.
- Whisk slowly until you’re left with a paste.
