Hi Peter, i am from Uganda next door, i have an OM606 mercedes engine running in a defender 110 with the defender manual gearbox , can i have an ECU to run the whole setup with the electronic injector?
There are factors to consider. First, are you getting the M111 for free or at a discounted price from a friend? If yes, it will the cheaper option. You already know there are several generations of M111 engine so knowing which version you will use is helpful. You might get one cheaply only to find out it has immobilizer that will give you headache to disable. You get to choose Voltarent ECU conversion when, 1, you prefer maintaining original looks, 2, your M102 is in great condition, only thirsty and lazy, 3, you want more power and better fuel economy from the existing M102. It will be cheaper in most cases that buying M111. Buying the engine is one thing, there's shipping, skilled labour, a bit of modifications needed, marrying the harness to your vehicle that cause the cost to surpass the conversion.
This is amazing. Great local talent. Can we also talk numbers? For instance, for improved fuel economy, tell us the average km/l before and after this upgrade. And for the other parameters as well. Otherwise, good job, really interesting technology.
I have to say that is a brilliant idea that you have came up with I hope that you make those for American-made old muscle cars like our Mustangs Camaros and so on so that way we in America could be able to use those on our vehicles also.

@@PeterMbiria1Hi, yesterday I watched your whole interview with Dr. King'ori. This is awesome. I have a question, can the ECU be fitted in Toyota 110?
Speeduino is designed to run like other standalone ECUs and is open source, thus the low cost. Voltarent ECU is not open source and is not designed to mimic existing standalone ECUs. It rather takes a different route which alows it to have full control of whichever engine it is installed in. Voltarent ECU executes mathematical formulas using selected engine sensory data to derive fuel pulse width and igntion angle parameters with reference to the selected drive mode. It allows power of demand features on engines with bigger cylinder count (6+ cylinders) and could even execute power on demand on a 4 cylinder though no gains in fuel economy, it actually consumed more. It has no limit to how many maps it can handle, so long as the firmware is written well. Voltarent ECU by the way uses 32 bit controller while Speeduino uses 8 bit. The firmware on Speeduino executes differently while using inbuilt EEPROM for data storage. Voltarent uses main memory as the 32 bit doesn't have inbuilt EEPROM. In terms of perfomance, hard to compare but I've had the chance to race with a Peugeot station wagon running on Speeduino with a 2L 8V engine 5 speed while running Voltarent ECU on W201 Benz saloon with 2L 8V engine 5 speed. From standstill, we both accelerated, Peugeot was fast and left me by the full length of his car (short shift trans), On my gear 2, I was at par with him, once in gear 3, he couldn't keep up. By the time I was on gear 5 (past 150 kph) he was way behind. That was the one and only direct perfomance comparison I've had between Voltarent and Speeduino.
@@PeterMbiria1 I'll be honest, I'm a bit unsure of the abilities of your ECU. It may run on an Arduino Due but it's overkill. The race between the cars has no bearing on the quality of the ECU. It comes down to how well the engine is tuned. There's also no reason why a speeduino couldn't be used to run a converted engine like you're doing. I'm still impressed by what you have done, the fabrication on the fuel rails is very decent. You mention it's closed source, how would someone tune their engine? Speeduino uses Tunerstudio, allows for real time tuning of fuel maps, ignition timing, idle control etc. Is this possible with your ECU without going into the Arudino IDE and changing some arrays? Genuinely interested. Thanks.
@@hippopotamus86 Some pros and cons. Speeduino has a neat interface to play with (tunestudio) I've interated with it by the way. Voltarent ECU though, doesn't have that interface.
