Your story sounds like something similar that happened to me a few months ago, the rusty doorknob noise bit. I can tell you the whole story if you're interested.
I remember I once was getting water and a midnight snack from downstairs when I saw a Christmas stocking and thought it was a face covered in blood. I literally jumped and almost screamed😂 after realizing what it was I still ran upstairs as fast as humanly possible.
Anybody hate when it's dark and your minds kinda like, "You know what we haven't thought about in a while? Demons."
Stories like this one are why I'm semi-nocturnal.

i used to be super afraid of the dark and demons were coming to drag me to hell as a child. then i became an atheist. no more paranoia. now i love laying alone in pitch dark. it's so peaceful and usually quiet unless my sister is awake. also i can focus better in the dark because nothing is distracting me.
also i have my 2 quarts of apple juice to save me if satan comes to get me

also why does the picture always scare me more than the bloody story.
I deal with this shit every bloody night. I'm almost 90% cool with it but jeez that picture. (aka scratching, creeking /I have a weird theory that someone is bricked up where the chimney used to be because it started when we stripped off the wood chip added in the 1930's) the only time its ever bothered me is when I heard a thumping noise on my window..because I'm on the second floor and there's no room for a ladder up to my window.. hell I'm 17 and even I fucking bolted into my mums room screaming my ass off.
I do sleep with my TV on all the time though..since I can't see my bedroom door. (I have a weird room its like a square with a rectangle added on for the door.)

I think I'd be scared, then see an opportunity to be a jackass and scare the other and wake up my whole family. IDK Something like creep over to the window and jerk open the curtain and scream like a banshee.
Any normal person would be scared, a druggie or drunk may piss themselves. IDK I'd scare the shit out of me is some kid did that when I thought they were asleep. Most people are so scared of the what if's, if you know human reaction, first isn't to lung or shoot, most of the time it's to scream in terror and run.

I don't know about you but I love the dark. Think about it if you feel more welcome in the dark than the spirit. You are not at a disadvantage anymore. in fact you have something they don't andcannot take from you if your unwilling. Your body.^^ Everybody in my family always runs my way when strange things happen. Why? Because I am not afraid and that give me power over spirits. You have to believe you are more than them and don't forget GOD.

SpAcE/rOcK/WOW OuO Nope because when you have sleep paralysis you know it (you can't even move your mouth) and it goes away in minutes (or seconds sometimes)
My sleep paralysis can last twenty or more minutes, mostly because I got used to the feeling and I don't try to get out of the paralysis.
