There are so many skilled model-builders on RUclips who do such amazing work, but Brett, your voiceover adds the human element that these model-build videos really need. Whether it's interesting facts about the aircrtaft, or tips on building techniques, it makes it so that I'm always excited when I see you've uploaded.
Dear modeler, first of all I want to express all my admiration for what has been achieved in modelling up to now. For me too the F 15 represents the favorite aircraft among the four of its time, like F 16, F 14, F 18. I confess that I did not appreciate the radiation of the Tomcat so early compared to its peers. I own 11 models between built and to be completed, attributable to the versions A, C, D, E... and with the Bams conversion kit soon the last one (EX). I also started a Heritage version of the Oregon ANG, with similar coloring. My kits are Hasegawa, Academy, GWH. I thank you for this beautiful video, rich in details supported by a way of thinking and acting based on your modelling experience. The fact of having put together a video like this does you honor and arouses in users like me points of reflection and desire to experiment. Thank you very much for your contribution and the passion you transmit. I conclude by telling you that I personally glue the roofs of my models with Vinavil glue which, like the resin you use, avoids seeing the roofs ruined by the vapors that could potentially be released during the gluing phase. Thank you and happy modeling. Peter Valusso Udine Italy
I like how you didnt let the little mistakes hinder your build and you kept on going thats encourageing to us who are working on our projects it shows that you power thru them and toward your goal of completeing the project which turned awesome
1:31:15 If you have any old broken optical drives laying around, disassemble the lens assembly and you'll find super nice pieces of coated glass for this. Really old drives have the biggest pieces usually.
I think that the variable intake ramps are actually raised when powered down. This is not real life so take it with a grain of salt, but I fly the F-15E a lot in DCS, and part of the startup sequence is waiting for the intake ramps to drop once the jet is powered on and the switches for them are flipped. Being a virtual pilot and a model maker is pretty useful, as you have a fairly accurate virtual model you can view whenever! Also, thank you for posting another F-15E video! A few months ago, I found your Academy F-15E build video, and that was the video that convinced me to finally try building my own kits! After a first build, I am now working on that academy kit, and will be taking pointers from this video as well! Thanks for posting these and explaining everything with so much detail!
Ahh, good to know about the intake ramps! Glad you decided to take the plunge in to model building! Thats exciting, and good luck on your current build!
I believe it might be the other way around though if they were hydraulically powered. I don't think you would want hydraulic fluid going into the intake.
Thanks for the excellent video! I always find something new to try or a technique I've not seen. I will say i'm jealous of your steady hands...I inherited my Dad's "shakey paws" so I have to brace myself six ways from zero! In this particular video, I appreciated you laying out the clean up/repair for glass. I do mostly cars and motorcycles, so you can bet that I've muffed up some windshields in my day! Like a couple other folks mentioned here, I also enjoy the bits of backstory on the kit as well as the "original" aircraft. Thanks for the great content!
Looking like a million bucks, this eagle! You really get the sense of how big this bird is seeing it in 1/48 scale and how big the model is. Great work and cheers!
Interesting use of Citadel's Agrax Earthshade to get the different metal effects. I always remember the interesting sounds of the engine turkey feathers when they flew over during my time at RAF Lakenheath. Thank you for the bookmarks on your longer videos.
Glad to know it's a good kit as I have one, with as destroyed of a box I think 😂this turned out excellent as usual, really enjoyed the weathering around the engines.
Best value for money 1/48 scale F15E out there, especially for Gulf War era. Lack of ordinance is a big detractor. I think there is a rebox with some bombs included these days. This is one of Revell's finest. At $18 to $25 USD, its a big win. It still looks good on my shelf years later. Great box art too, scud hunting! Im going to try some of your techniques on dry brushing and panel wash for cockpits going forward
Very nice build, love the paint work. As a former F-15 crew chief, just a couple of notes for your future refence. As mentioned by another, the intake ramps indeed "rest" in the raised position. Also, the external fuel tanks are delivered with the jet and the folks that maintain them try to always keep them matched up (if memory servers, I believe the tail number is stenciled on each tank).
Revell missed a golden opportunity to tool a decent F-15 A/C kit using this molding. All they would have had to do was tool a new single seat cockpit and new canopy frame and they would have nailed it.
Hi Brett, this was an absolutely outstanding build, also you paint/weathering was also top notch, I must admit I do prefer voice over builds and iy good to hear why a builder is doing method, best regards from Australia, Les PS:Good luck with any show displays
I enjoyed watching the full length of this masterclass. Thank you so much for all the efforts and sharing: very inspiring and helpful! The only challenge I can give is the glossing of the MFD's. I believe this technique is valid for older (prop) planes with the oldskool dials, not so much for MFD's which are being produced with antireflective coating for obvious reasons for many many years. Surely the gloss will add visual interest but as you took good care of overall realism in this build, I'd suggest to get them MFD's matt or satin next time out. Other than that another near perfect build 🙏🏻
Nice build my friend. You said you did not know why the aircraft was not a semi gloss shine, well that's and easy one. If the aircraft is dedicated to air shows with a paint scheme like you done it is semi glossed. If it is a front line fighter doing and air show and goes back to base well it done in a flat due to it is easier to repaint. You have to strip the gloss shine on a hard or semi gloss in order the paint to stick. A flat just clean good and paint....😊😊😊😊

Wonderful clean paint job, as always. My problems with these kind of aircraft are that they take too much paint and space on the shelves, but that's just my opinion.
45:00 the reason, to my knowledge, is that the turkey feathers would literally rip off of the C/E because of how powerful the engines were compared to the A
I would love to see you fix the old Revell-Monogram 1/48 F-14. Of course the Tamiya kit is out, but the Revell kit can be had brand new for less than $20. Great job, love the long form videos
This was a great video you did an amazing job. All the detail you put into making this model. I looked up this exact aircraft and saw pictures of the air force painting it. 1 picture showed the aircraft covered in butcher paper and painters tape. The green and gray camouflage pattern pays homage to the group’s Supermarine Spitfires, which flew from September 1942 to March 1943. Looking at the image I saw of the finish paint job I think you missed one of the gunship grey squares on the nose section. The picture I saw had a gunship grey just in the square just below the canopy. Keep up the amazing job you do on the models you make.
IIRC the turkey feathers created a lot of maintenence issues by jamming. It was not just about having to remove them for maintenance; they did not work properly. As for the intakes: I usually see those raised on parked aircraft. When the engines power up, the intakes slam down. It's pretty spectacular to see.
I'm always impressed with car modelers, the amount of work that goes in to getting that nice smooth glossy finish! Thats a level of craftsmanship that I haven't unlocked yet! Thanks for watching!
I use pretty much all Vallejo Model Air and I agree with your statement of finding what works for you and Vallejo. I love the paint sets, but I find Vallejo to be subject to atmospheric conditions more so then say Tamiya paints. The paints work great once you find the happy spot.
You ever considered doing the Streak Eagle. If you like doing metal, then that's the version for you. I was at RAF Lakenheath in the 90's when the 48th TFW converted from the F-111F to the F-15E, very nice work.
Yeah, the streak eagle is definitely on my list of projects to do, but most likely not any time soon, I still have more practice I need to get with doing metallic paint jobs.
Wow, Finished this video and I had a lot more to learn. That holographic nail foil is exactly the effect I have been trying to achieve for years on glass parts. Outstanding! Link to purchase? The bottom of that aircraft is simply a master class on weathering and detail! Superb.
Thank you so much, here is the amazon link to the nail foil: www.amazon.com/Transfer-Stickers-Holographic-Cellophane-Decorations/dp/B097Q28PNW/ref=sr_1_11?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.24QYIWDXhB5J2HXB5vk0nyouXnskzTFQvhvGlZHvSadS_3jLfigarUr0dTlGSRpdLrqmngqTHYM0BNfMgRAkuzIlbhQ3kxRSO1YrhZT01RFX2AlVstsn26oAbazK0WPyfNqS0zTH_v6TQ4L9tu1T39EqJzQckb8RzVixm5xf4TulxZsoVTJ3iirIPxnz1jRjGayY8hPZiCnOjRtQrEdGBHc5iPGRIoi7gRf8CSdI6GbZSh3vtBzqN4E1ruMbufx6sG3czPQcPT3Go132GORVZ18wK3lM02CrukPkkYHuK5N-RH_5IY6lpl5YgrcL2QgU6wYAYqiWBM--nqrP038-irWVSrCfQWQVPtascBVj6OOsexn-AwSMSVd5dRUo2trv2eNwU8kaA_6Yb6sqL-iOG9mfYcb3rI8HNxRJDnW3Z6lU8djxpeWeP1XuarCyTnO9.TkYotTKFMrjXHbOXzRyMrjVTUTlATFCeF1n4I2ttHUA&dib_tag=se&keywords=holographic+nail+foil&qid=1738368933&sr=8-11
I’m wanting to do two of those Revell 1/48 F15 Eagle kits. One with a Transformers Decepticon Seekers theme, maybe more, and one of the 75th tribute F15 to 2nd Lt. David R. Kingsley.
@@HammerheadModelMaking Thank You. I’m thinking of doing my own version of Thundercracker, or the normal version of Thundercracker, or Sunstorm, and maybe Thrust. My own version of Thundercracker would be all black, with the stripes that Thundercracker has. Maybe you could do a couple of those Decepticon jets of your own.
Hah, I also once spilled some extra thin, funnily enough also a Revell 1/48 jet, altho it was a Tornado in my case. Glad I'm not the only one. And it was over the underside of one of the horizontal stabilizers, pretty flat surface so it was an easy enough fix and only cost me some time for sanding and rescribing (and half the bottle of extra thin cement).
Hi Brett, me again (Arnhem, Netherlands) Another amazing build!! Its a shame you are so far away from us, otherwise I would like to visit and you visit my humble modeling room. As my wife said "you're always welcome" ;-)
If I had the means I'd love to come visit the Netherlands, I got to spend some time there about 20 years (although never visited Arnhem). Absolutely a beautiful country! Maybe one day I'll get to travel back there, thank you for the kind offer!!
More exceptional work Brett 👏 I really need to get an F15E. The only reason i can see that it is in RAF colours is, in my understanding, that Don Blakeslee flew Spitfire Vs in the all-American Eagle Squadron in the RAF 👍🏻 i may be wrong though
Thank you, yeah, transport can be tough, basically, it depends on how far I have to travel, if its with in a 30 minute drive, I will usually just use some bubble wrap in a box, lay it on its top upside down on something soft. Thats usually pretty good, if I have to go out of state, then I usually get it packaged up a little more.

@HammerheadModelMaking Hey, thanks, Hammer. I really appreciate it. I originally only planned on buying a resin 3d printer. But talking to the guys one night at our local bike night. Telling them of my plans. Within a few days later. 2 different friends brought me fdm printers. Now, in to both fdm and resin . And now I have too many. Lol. It doesn't take long to fill up a new room addition for my model building, with too many printers. Now, I'm trying to learn the rc aircraft hobby .
Awesome work, never been so excited to see a video pop up on my home page. I noticed your solvaset cap has a brush, is that something that you added? I ordered some but it came without an applicator.
Either the mid-late 90s Tamiya 1/48 kits (Bf109E, F4U Corsair etc), or the Hobbyboss 1/72 Easy Build kits are great starters, depending on your budget. They let you build up your skills on kits that practically fall together, and they're both quite affordable.
Has to be a Spitfire Mk.I of course(unless you aren't a fan of them, it's just a really common starter model kit). But really just find something small(1/72 scale), maybe even some sort of starter set with paints\brushes. Try one of the new Airfix starter sets for something really simple if you don't mind ultra-simplified details, otherwise basically just get something small which won't cost a fortune in supplies to make.
It looks like some people have already given you some good responses, I will just throw out one of my favorite kits, the Airfix 1/72 P-51D mustang. Its fairly inexpensive and quite fun to build
The reason why the turkey feathers are not on the strike versus other eagles, is because the earlier models kept having them fall off in flight. So maintainers just said screw it. We’re not putting them back on if they’re gonna keep falling off. This became a main stay on the strike eagle, but the new EX has them on permanently.
I actually was impressed with this kit when I first built it years ago. Yes, some fixes but only a few. Biggest bitch was the total lack of a weapons load-out. Dane
wow, I love the F-15E Eagle, ESPECIALLY the heritage models They are absolutely beautiful! have you done a P-61 yet? if not I would love to see a video on that one question about panel washing, I have not done any models recently but I have always been intimidated by panel washing my aircraft, what are the step for me to do it? or like whats something that could help me. lastly hows the YF-23 Black Widow II coming along? meaning how far is it out on the schedule if you can share (lol ik ive pestered you about this a lot)
I've done a few of the old Revell P-61 decades ago, but nothing recently. Its definitely one I'd like to do again though someday. As for the YF-23, I'm not sure yet. I've taken on a number of commissions this year and those will take priority, but I will attempt to fit it in when I can.
Here you go, I had to upscale them to 1/48: cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/1-72-scale-f-15-aces-ii-ejection-seat?srsltid=AfmBOoq2jnc4gGp5BuQ-6CJP2v2bFzHBbkJNYYzVkONFQYh_g64n24Ib
This heritage scheme is a medley of topics. It doesn't depict any one plane at any moment In time. For example, the British callouts for the colors and the national insignia round star with yellow were NEVER used by the USAAF. But they were used by American pilots of the 4th Fighter Group who had volunteered to fly with the British before the American military officially entered the war. Also, the picture of the pilot on the inside of the vertical stabs is of Col. Donald Blakeslee who got the first kill in P-47 and who had the most time flying missions.
I'm not completely certain but I think it was a hangover from when the RAF Eagle Squadrons and their aircraft transferred across to the USAAC 4th Fighter Group.....the insignia were, I believe, just 'starred' over.
Hi Bud,as allways amazing work.Great Video.I am looking for an Little Bird in 1:48.Can you help?Keep the work up and stay safe. The best from germany.Dirk
Thank you, Academy has a line of Little Birds, usually under the name Hughes 500 or MH-6 in 1/48, you should be able to google that to find something locally to you. However, they aren't the most modern kits, outside of that you can check scalemates.com to see what else is available.
The number of times I “set the tone” by rushing or misreading the instructions. Even though you power through the kit you still resist putting a hammer to it lol😂

Quintas decals makes a nice 3D print decal set for this kits Cockpit I picked one up for my kit.
Oh nice! That would have been nice to have!
@HammerheadModelMaking you can build it again. You can then buy newer weapons like the small diameter bombs.
personally i make car models but really enjoy your plane model videos😁
I'm always impressed with car modelers, the amount of work that goes in to getting that nice smooth glossy finish! Thats a level of craftsmanship that I haven't unlocked yet! Thanks for watching!
@@HammerheadModelMaking i cant say im too good at it yet😂 but with each model i am getting better
Use a wet pallet when you are hand painting with acrylic paint
Yeah, I've thought if getting one.
Brilliant.......beautiful looking thing. Veey entertaining! 👏🏻👌🏻👍🏻
Thanks!!
I use pretty much all Vallejo Model Air and I agree with your statement of finding what works for you and Vallejo. I love the paint sets, but I find Vallejo to be subject to atmospheric conditions more so then say Tamiya paints. The paints work great once you find the happy spot.
Yeah, it might be a pain to use sometimes, but I really to love the color range that Vallejo has!
amazing work! really gonna help with my own gwh 48 eagle
Awesome! Have fun with your build!
Superb.
Thank you so much, here is the amazon link to the nail foil:

I have this Jet already of my own. Very nice kit build. Love the F-15 jet fighter.
They're awesome planes!
I am actually doing this very f-15 camo right now with gwh f-15. I wanted to do a Seymour Johnson one since it’s close
Awesome! Its such a cool scheme to do!
Well done
Thank you!
I’m wanting to do two of those Revell 1/48 F15 Eagle kits. One with a Transformers Decepticon Seekers theme, maybe more, and one of the 75th tribute F15 to 2nd Lt. David R. Kingsley.
Oh man, thats such a cool idea to do a Decepticon jet!
@@HammerheadModelMaking Thank You. I’m thinking of doing my own version of Thundercracker, or the normal version of Thundercracker, or Sunstorm, and maybe Thrust. My own version of Thundercracker would be all black, with the stripes that Thundercracker has. Maybe you could do a couple of those Decepticon jets of your own.
tHE GOAT HAS POSTED!!11!11
Cheers mate!
Glad you were able to salvage your Tornado!
Hi Brett, me again (Arnhem, Netherlands)
Another amazing build!!
Thanks for the info on the pilot!
Your builds are super I love the detail. Your one of the best. What brand for a beginner would be the best F-15 to purchase in 1/72nd. 👍
Thats kind of you to say. The Academy F-15E in 1/72 would be a good place to start for a beginner.
You are a real artist your vision is spot on I love the exhaust it just pops. I hope my F-4 turns out decent. Keep up the good work
@@davidhale8125 Cheers!
Great video and commentary. Question: what do you use to transport this guy to the show without damaging it?
Thank you, yeah, transport can be tough, basically, it depends on how far I have to travel, if its with in a 30 minute drive, I will usually just use some bubble wrap in a box, lay it on its top upside down on something soft. Thats usually pretty good, if I have to go out of state, then I usually get it packaged up a little more.
Great build. I have this in my old stash. Where did you find the print files. Are they resin or fdm. Love the extra ordinance.
Thank you! Here are where I got all of the files for this build:

No, my bottle came with the brush, however, its like 5 years old, so quite possible they've changed it since then.
How did you make the custom masking for the external power cover?
You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but what part is the external power cover?
hey I've never built a model before and I'm a young teen so what starter plane or planes would you reccomend
@@JohnSmith-jj2yd thanks 😊
@HammerheadModelMaking thanks for the reccomedation. I'll consider it along with all of the other recommendations 😊
Good to know, thanks for sharing!
I actually was impressed with this kit when I first built it years ago. Yes, some fixes but only a few. Biggest bitch was the total lack of a weapons load-out. Dane
Yeah, simple fixes and its good to go!
Stupid question but what scale is this?it looks amazing!!
Thanks! it is 1/48 scale.
A-10 WHEN!?!?
Most likely in the next few months I will start working on it.
Very nice
36:48 I guess that film “nails” it.
Ha ha, good one!
Buy cellulose thiners.its the same as tamia extra thin and a fraction of the ptice
I'll look into it, thanks for the recommendation!
wow, I love the F-15E Eagle, ESPECIALLY the heritage models They are absolutely beautiful!
have you done a P-61 yet? if not I would love to see a video on that one
question about panel washing, I have not done any models recently but I have always been intimidated by panel washing my aircraft, what are the step for me to do it? or like whats something that could help me.
lastly hows the YF-23 Black Widow II coming along? meaning how far is it out on the schedule if you can share (lol ik ive pestered you about this a lot)
I've done a few of the old Revell P-61 decades ago, but nothing recently. Its definitely one I'd like to do again though someday. As for the YF-23, I'm not sure yet. I've taken on a number of commissions this year and those will take priority, but I will attempt to fit it in when I can.
May you make the kit a 5th time for the 15 Streak Eagle?
Yeah, the streak eagle is definitely on my radar, however I would need to use a different kit, the Streak Eagle was a single seat F-15A.
@@HammerheadModelMakingcan’t wait to see it. The Streak Eagle is based on the F-15 A frame
Can you share where you got the ACES II seat files from?
Here you go, I had to upscale them to 1/48:
cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/1-72-scale-f-15-aces-ii-ejection-seat?srsltid=AfmBOoq2jnc4gGp5BuQ-6CJP2v2bFzHBbkJNYYzVkONFQYh_g64n24Ib
I would like ti buy this model kit. Where is it available?
A few stores carry it, but you can also find it on ebay.
👍👍👍
Thank you!
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
I didn't know that about the pilot who is pictured on the tail, thanks for sharing!
@ Thank you.I try that out.
i see hammerhead models
i click.
Cheers mate!
The number of times I “set the tone” by rushing or misreading the instructions. Even though you power through the kit you still resist putting a hammer to it lol😂
Yep, you get it!
Sand pro- like glue globs never even happened
I try!
I saw this model at hobby lobby but didn’t buy it cause I suck at painting or putting on D-Day stripes
Yeah, the stripes can be a little intimidating!
It wouldn’t be a hammerhead vid if he didn’t spill the cement😂
Lol, true!
Never buy tamiya extra thin. Buy their pink cap airbrush cleaner. It is the same thing but at a much lower price.
I'm not familiar with that, it works as model cement?
Like your work but, your videos are too long.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate the feedback, I'll keep it in mind.
