In the Eastern Cape, a fierce battle is brewing in the legal fraternity. A highly contested report has recommended that the seat of the Eastern Cape High Court be moved from Makhanda - formerly known as Grahamstown - to the province’s capital city, Bhisho. It’s a move that many in Makhanda didn’t see coming, and residents believe it will turn the struggling community into a ghost town. Research suggests that if the move goes ahead, one-third of Makhanda’s businesses will lose so many customers that they’ll have to shut down, and the unemployment rate will skyrocket. So, why would government risk destroying this historical town? Carte Blanche investigates.

Thank you Carte Blanche cause this story affects me directly as I am from Makhanda and to loose the High Court would have devastating impact on our town but clearly government doesn't care and clearly they have their own interests @ heart. Bravo team Carte Blanche keep shining the light on us. 👏👏 🙏
As a from neighbouring town East London I'm truly against the relocation of the Eastern Cape High Court to Bhisho. The ECHC must remain in Grahamstown.
🤦🏾♀️... Honestly this move wouldn't benefit anyone except the corrupt government.
Outstanding journalism.
Well done ANC, more corruption and poverty loading. Why don't you take that 1,9 billion and help the people who have been in poverty for years, instead of giving them shacks to live in or build more schools and hospitals 🥱
Eastern Cape is the Zimbabwe of South Africa. It will NEVER be resurrected. The same residents of the Eastern Cape and the viewers of Carte Blanche will continue to vote for ANC. I blame the 30% pass rate.
Zimbabwe is rising getting better everyday and we going down everyday you must travel to see the difference don't be fooled by social media
It is time for the Eastern Cape youth to come in numbers and vote against ANC on 29 May. The majority of old ppl in EC are ANC loyalists who will vote for it untill they die. Youth is the majority in this province(including thise who were born in late 70's and 80's), this are open minded ppl that cane remove ANC from governing EC. All this bad actions of ANC will badly affect the youth and 70's/80's generation's future
U very correct but ,they won't listen. Vote the folks out EC
Yoh the Eastern Cape, never ceases to surprise me anymore, poor in every index, yet the leaders have so much pride, even when talking nonsense. AND not to mention that it's the ANC stronghold, and people will still vote for the ANC but then complain for service delivery.
The goats at Bisho will make the process of losing court dockets much more efficient
of course the ANC would tell their own municipality to ignore a report on local economy impact of overspending....
Please also investigate why after being ordered by a high court 10 years ago to build a special school in Makhanda they only doing it now!!!
Great work Carte Blanche but what happens now ? It’s great that you uncover these stories but where is all this going . It feels pointless if nothing is being done about it.
Everytime I think I can't be surprised anymore, everytime there is more and more corruption. The country can't afford the unnecessary spend. We need to
Prioritize our spend not waste unnecessary money but try to tell this to senseless... IMPOSSIBLE
Unbelievable, so many job loses if this is allowed. The big question is who benefits from the move? This is wrong in every way. Leave the High Court where it is
There’s Oscar there he will stop any investigation like he has done in the past
Love the red suite love love love ❤️ Yasss! Stunning
Someone benefitted and I would not be amazed that the government big wigs got a slice..
We all know who will benefit
Ironically, Bisho looked much better during the apartheid days than it does under freedom. The same can be said about most South African towns and cities. Gee! I wonder why?🤑
That goes for all towns & provinces that got name changes.
If u apply ur brain cells u will realize that the aparthaid regime was only focusing in developing the white ppl areas(minorities). It was during the aparthaid regine where 99% of bkack rasidential areas had no electricity. Yes the ANC goverment is failing this country but it takes a racist to glorify an evil Aparthaid regime
Because the buildings were used by minority. Now they are overloaded as everyone can use them
Anything to waste and steal...
Why is government leasing offices?
Cause those who own the building are also in government 😢
White people own the buildings
Because ANC comrades are eating
@@heathcameron No they aren't they might be getting kickbacks but the property owners are mostly White or Indian and this is in all nine provinces. The ANC is corrupt, but they are plenty of other parties benefiting from this corruption and its mostly the owners.
It's probably one of the agreements from the Codessa negotiations. This is in all nine provinces by the way, leasing offices in your own Country imagine if that money was used for other things could would benefit the Country.
Oh my goodness this Oscar oh my goodness .,😢 that's how I feel right now.
Public private looting.
Poor Eastern . Cutting Edge will visit this province more often
Let me tell you what will happen - they’ll chow the money and the court will stay in Makhanda.
Most corrupt place bisho
Why are all the decisions made by these geriatrics who are going to be gone soon and leaving us in a dust seriously
This is so par for the course for the cANCer destroying 9000 jobs.
one common theme through out all these crimes found by Carte Blanche...can you guess what it is
Eastern Cape who are you voting for... This election is going to be interesting 🤔
🖤💚💛
GHRMSTWN AND BHISHO ARE DEAD BEAT TOWNS ANC TOTALLY DESTROYED
8:25 fat and well dressed as always
Masa ❤ lady in Red - love the physique👌🏻 ... You are the only joy in my life when it comes to this painful state Afrika Borwa ... Ba go poshonga but i love the new look ..stunning 🎉
Wa mo rata shem😊 go bua nnete fela o montle😊
Carte Blanche is interviewing people to agree with their narrative. 😂
And the narrative it to educate us all ..learn if you want ..
They’re not forced to agree with it. They can counter argue if the allegations aren’t true
Call the town graham'stown. Makunda sounds like a looters thiefs name ...why steal another races glory
Interesting that they focused on the worst spots of Bhisho...Bhisho is bigger than that part infront of the Hall, Bhisho is part of greater Qonce...its one town really, I used to walk from Qonce to Bhisho frequently in my teen years, infact most government workers eBhisho stay eQonce naseMonti...this investigative journalism piece is a bit shady!
The timing of your investigations is worry some. Decampaigning the ANC at every chance you get. This is nonsensical journalism...
😢I'm amazed library books are still standing . What happened
