    The video at the start of the birds shot with the Nocticron lens is simply outstanding! Have never seen such tack sharp and artefact free video. It's like looking through a window! Simply mind blowing. Am viewing it via a Surface Pro 4 connected to a 27" Dell 4K monitor and when I hit the Space Bar to pause playback, even the stills are tack sharp. As Panasonic have been implying, video is the future of photography.
    But what's yet to come is going to blow even this away. 8K, that will lead to 8K Photo mode (GH5?) producing stills as good as a full frame DSLR.
    Canon and Nikon are going to be left behind if Sony and Panasonic continue their totesamazeballs developments. Imagine you shoot a wedding or sports game in 8K at 60FPS and then simply allow friends and family or the news media to extract their preferred shots.
    Change is a coming...

    This is pretty cool. The EVF is a great feature along with the touchscreen. I am an a7rii owner, but I find the gx8 amazing.

      +fightingmink Yeah, I use A7R2 as well and Sony can really learn from Panasonic in terms of EVF and touch screen. I like how I don't have to mush my nose against the camera when looking into EVF. Hopefully Sony adapts the "rangefinder" look.

    nice video - thanks - I have my GX8 coming this week - I agree that the GX7 is the most fun to use camera I own - and I own 20 cameras from FF DSLR's Fuji XT1 X100/s Sony A6000 NEX7 A7 and Olympus EM1 and EM5 and GM1 and GX1 and two GX7's - LX100 and more - but of all of them the GX7 is the most fun to use - just so well laid out - it was the GX1 that got me started - the GX7 is just so willing - like in single mode - vs say my A7 that just feels lazy :) so yes I would have preferred the GX7 size but of course now with 4k and better IBIS and the total flip LCD I do not mind a bit larger body - as it is still a flat top - I am not so keen on the EVF on top - just tangles when taking out of bags etc - so getting the GX8 a no brainer - I fore sure will keep my GX7's -

    Informative, thank you. But yet again, another review that pays no attention to the C-AF option. All reviews are either about the 'still' photography of the video mode. Why is C-AF always over looked? The worry about the MFT system is its C-AF compared to DSLR's. Is it getting better?
    I would like to see if this camera is better than the EM1 for sports/action photography. The DFD cannot be used on non Panasonic lenses.
    The Olympus 40-150 pro lens (with and without a TC) is a great bit of kit, and perfect for most sports. I doubt this camera would fair better than the EM1 world this lens, but no one ever goes in to detail about C-AF on new cameras.

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  8 лет назад

      +joe nick because it's a hands-on review video based on one day of shooting only and that is not enough time to give relevant feedbacks about every aspect of the camera. But you can check out our full review of the GX8 if you want to know about C-AF: www.mirrorlessons.com/2015/10/15/panasonic-gx8-review/.

    • @joennick1
      @joennick1 8 лет назад

      Mathieu Gasquet Thanks. But I meant video reviews to see it actually happening. No one does them which is a great shame. Would love to see the GX8 and the EM1 both used with the Oly 40-150 Pro Lens (with/without TC) and the Pany 35-100 2.8.

    Mathieu,I have found myself needing some good advice about what camera to own. First I am a real fan
    of the Lumix line of cameras. My first was the FZ200, then followed by the FZ2000, G7 and now the GX85. I also own a LX10 for pocket type shooting. My heart wants a GX8 since I have the 12x35mm 2.8, 25 1.8 and the 14x140mm that was the
    kit lens for the G7 when purchased. Fifteen years ago I shot a Mamiya RZ and a
    Bronica 645, so I know what large sensors can produce. I am 74 years old and have early Parkinson tremors in my right hand. My GX85 seems to work extremely well with the IBIS in camera and lens.I try to get out at least once a week to photograph landscape mostly. I send my good shots to my Facebook page for my friends to view. If we travel I often put together an 8x10 photo book. I no longer print shots any larger than 11x14.I really like the looks of the FZ300. Has many features I wanted on the GX8, but a very small sensor. I would sell off my GX85 and lens and keep the LX10. Will the small sensor be a problem for 11x14 or smaller prints and Facebook?Please let me know what you think? Is my heart getting in the way of a good decision? Many thanks,David

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  7 лет назад

      +David Poteet I’m sure you’ll see a difference in quality with the smaller sensor. The GX8 doesn’t have the same IBIS as the GX85. The G85 could be a better solution (same tech as GX85 but with better ergonomics and a larger viewfinder).

    • @deepoteet7626
      @deepoteet7626 7 лет назад

      Thanks for your quick response to my question. Great advice and I will look further into the G85. Although I'm beginning to think I should just stay with what I have. Thanks again, David

    When will GX9 and GX95 release? Should I get the DSLR style G camera or the rangefinder style GX camera? Does it make a big different in carry and shooting?
    I'm looking for my first camera, was plan for RX10 series to cover wide and super tele but a lot people suggest to get an interchangeable camera so I decide to get A7 III(I don't like A6XXX series because how Sony treat this system) when it's out but it's big so I look for Fuji, I like the straight forward Shutter dial and aperture ring without need for mode dial, but their lens electronic contact are proprietary and never has many third party involve to build lens with autofocus, so as much as I want to get the XE3, this seem like a pulling leg for me. Then I look at Panasonic camera, like he LX10, P&S but with manual aperture ring and dial, is this for me? Then the LX100, this seem like more for me but it's deserve an update that doesn't know when it will come, then I check their GX8 and GX85 system, they are ok but still I will waiting for next models because there's something I don't like, but is this camera for me? GX9 or GX95? Does the lens system good?
    I shoot as a hobbyist/enthusiast, about lifestyle, travel, daily, architecture, indoor, product, street, and so on. After have a camera, I want to shoot night sky, wildlife/bird,

      +hapiness32 with lenses compatible with the Dual IS, the GX8 uses the OIS + software stabilisation for video. But it's not the same as sensor + optical stabilisation used for stills. I hope that Panasonic will be able to improve that with the next cameras. If you look at my latest video about the Olympus Sync IS, that's how good sensor+optical stabilisation can be for video :)

    Nice informative review Mathieu ! What is your opinion of the colors, does it also produce warmer colors like the OMD ? How is it compared to the Fuji XT-1 or XT-10 ? Thank you

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  9 лет назад

      alma123234 I always find Panasonic's colours slightly cooler but you can also customise the white balance to make it warmer. They are not my favourite but you can definitely get good results. Fuji cameras have a different colour palette with a less digital look especially if you some of the film simulation modes like Classic Chrome.

    I just got the EM-5 M2 with the 12-40 f2.8 lens..and I'm so happy about the combo. But I'm a bit curious about this Lumix. How does this Lumix compare to the EM-5 M2 in terms of IQ, AF and built..?

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  9 лет назад +1

      Rahul Vj I will make some direct comparison between the two cameras. For now I can say that they have both strong build but the GX8 feels more solid perhaps due to its bulkier design. The AF is great on both cameras but the DfD system on the GX8 certainly gives you more advantage in video mode.

    • @sski66
      @sski66 9 лет назад

      Mathieu Gasquet Could u also put the new em10 in the comparison too? I'm curious like RVj, & would like to know your opinion on witch set up u would like better, this camera with the lens u have on it or the EM-5 M2 with the 12-40. I think the Panasonic has the edge in video with 4K & that DFD system, so I'm more interested in the Photo side. By the way the rooms & places in this video look amazing, great photos.

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  9 лет назад

      +sski66 it's one of the National Trust location, there a lot of them all over the UK. The GX8 has some advantages over the E-M10 II like weather sealing, tilting EVF and of course all the videos specs. The E-M10 II is definitely smaller and cheaper so that can be an advantage. If you don't care about weather sealing and video specs, the E-M10 II is a good bargain and you can save money for an extra lens later on.

  • @GustavoYmusica
    @GustavoYmusica 9 лет назад

    So I want to get a full frame but everything keeps pointing back to this camera. It's seems an amazing value for the price and a great balance. Do you think a camera like this can really perform at or close to the level of a full frame for low noise and depth of field? I'm so conflicted here. I'm coming from a canon 70d and I really enjoy shooting with that camera.

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  9 лет назад

      +GustavoYmusica depth of field is definitely the most "affected" part, especially with short and standard focal lengths, you will get less shallow DoF with micro four thirds in comparison to a full frame camera and the equivalent lens. That being said, you can still get nice shallow DoF with M4/3 with the right lenses. If you are hesitating, however the advantage of the GX8 and its system are to be found elsewhere: compact camera, compact lenses, very fast performance, 4k video, excellent EVF.

  • @martinfinzel7679
    @martinfinzel7679 9 лет назад

    The sad part for me is that this cam, although bigger has no build in flash. I would need the build in as trigger flash for external units. So for me the gx7 will stay with me...

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  9 лет назад

      Martin Finzel they should include in the box a small flash unit like Olympus does on the E-M5/E-M1.

    • @martinfinzel7679
      @martinfinzel7679 9 лет назад

      Mathieu Gasquet Having additional bits to put onto a camera always adds bulk and also slows down the workflow.
      I realize there are a lot of people not needing a build in flash - however I feel having it build in caters for all, and certainly gives a bit of an edge against the competition...

    Very nice Video. Yesterday i wanted to buy the Samsng NX 1. After i watched you Video i´m not so sure about it!
    Which one would you recommend, Nx 1 oder Gx 8?
    Im searching a good hybrid between Foto and Video?
    What are the differences between the sensor sizes ( APS-C vs Micro Four-Third), especially in low light conditions?
    I would be very happy if you answer me these questions :)

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  9 лет назад +1

      The NX1 has a great sensor (the best APS-C on the market): better dynamic range and sharpness. The 4K video is also nice. The GX8 is smaller and uses smaller lenses. It is a better hybrid still/video camera also because the NX1 uses the H265 codec that most editing software aren't compatible with yet. They both have good performance in low light but the GX8 has more advantage for video and for the stabilization. Finally you will find more lenses available for the GX8.

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  8 лет назад +1

      +Rufus Leakin it depends on how poor the light condition is and if you have static or moving subjects. The Dual IS works very well so if you don't have moving elements you can take a shot at 1/2s hand held and keep the ISO sensitivity lower. Otherwise the camera gives good results up to 3200/6400 ISO depending on your noise tolerance ;)

      +Narendra Kumar J there's a limit of 29min in 4K. It doesn't have the V-log gamma profile like the GH4 but you have the Cine-Like D and V profiles that allows you to have a flatter profile.

      +Narendra Kumar J the time limit could also depend on the country/continent. In Europe we always have a 29min limit. Where would you purchase it? Best thing is to ask confirmation to Panasonic or a camera shop locally.

    • @NarendraKumarJ
      @NarendraKumarJ 8 лет назад

      +Mathieu Gasquet (MirrorLessons) i see.. want to buy it in India but when I checked Panasonic India website it doesnt show this product. Means I may have to source it from somewhere else. Just checked the manual and it says 'You can continue recording without interruption even if the file size exceeds 4 GB (or run-time of 29m 59secs), but the motion picture file will be divided and recorded/played back separately'.
      Just wanted to know would this be actually possible and if yes, would it have seamless continuity between clips? Just wondering if it is possible for you to kindly test this if you still have the camera. Hope you dont mind :). Thanks.

      With the GX8 you get a larger body (also weather resistant), a larger EVF, 4K video and better stabilisation. It could be worth it. Just make sure you're not going to miss the smaller form factor of the GX7, it's one of the thing I've appreciated the most about that camera. The one thing I remember from the GX8 that was quite annoying is shutter shock. Images taken between 1/50s or 1/320s could easily end up with a bit of motion blur.
      You could also consider the GX85, which is the natural successor of the GX7 (similar dimensions).

    Hi, This or E-m10ii for street photography? Thanks

      I would choose the E-M10 II. Smaller and with less shutter shock.

      What shutter shock? Doesn't this has a "silent mode" as mentioned in other reviews?

      Yes it does but with the electronic shutter you can also get rolling shutter issues.

      Mathieu Gasquet hallo mathieu, i have a same question here. I confused to choose te EM10 II or Lumix GX8, why u choose EM10 II, it doesn't have 4K capability, it doesn't have vari-angle LCD and tilting EVF, why do you think the Olympus still better than Lumix ?

    Hi mathieu! I'm a canon user and recently i bought a gx8 I was wondering if you could answer my question:
    Is there any way or setting where i can see the changes i make when i adjust the shutter speed/iso/aperture on the live view mode? The results only show when you take the picture. Right now i'm taking pics manually or by trial and error mode.
    With canon, it's easier to take photos because you instantly see the adjustments (on aperture/iso/shutter) you make on the live view mode. I hope i was able to explain my question clearly 😞 thanks in advance.

      +Anc hor I would not invest in a Samsung camera anymore as it seems they are pulling out the camera business.

    Lumix camera have a problem when you take video in bright light you need ND filter. Sony build in ND. just one click ND turn on. Lumix you have to carry ND filter.
    When you travel You don't want carry ND filter. to much problem.

      Alan Nguyen Sony has ND filter for the RX100/RX10 cameras but if you use an APS-C or full frame camera, you have the same problem. A good solution can be a circular ND filter that you just leave on the lens. However it can be annoying if you constantly switch between video and stills.

      I talking video not Photo. I have so many problem when I shoot on the beach. Sony just one click ND on/off. If I shoot Photo I setup ND off . Just one touch.. When I used ND filter for Lumix grading don't look good at all.

      I'm not sure I understand the question: do you mean pause the recording but without the camera finishing to write the file on the SD card?

    • @LovelyMonkeys
      @LovelyMonkeys 6 лет назад

      Mathieu Gasquet
      No I am not mean that . I mean when we recording videos we can pause the video for a while then we can continue to record more . That PAUSE mean stop recording for a while and then start a to continue more in the same videos.

    • @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
      @MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons  6 лет назад

      You can start and stop the recording, not pause it. So when you start the recording again, the camera will create a new file.
