      I just tried this about 5 minutes ago for the first time. They kindof remind me of pickled artichokes! This is definitely one of my favorite foods now, I absolutely love it

      @Tom Lompa This is the definition of vegetable: Vegetables are the edible parts of a plant, such as the leaves, stem, roots, and bulbs.
      Fruits come from flowering plants with seeds. I would say it is a vegetable!

    I often use hearts of palm in my stir fry dishes; with a nice char on them, they taste and feel almost like scallops.

      I found this most distressingly, researchers found that, from 1995 to 2015, the deforestation caused by the harvesting of products like hearts of palm has lead to the estimated loss of 100,000 orangutans in Borneo alone.

    • @meh2999
      @meh2999 Год назад +6

      closest comparison i can think of is bamboo shoots, but with a stronger flavor. its tangy and nutty, with a texture similar to bamboo shoots but less fibrous. the core of the heart of palm tastes the same but has a much softer texture. they're great, actual god tier low calorie snack.

    • @eqrqtoqyqi6921
      @eqrqtoqyqi6921 Год назад +3

      It looks just like banana stem, which is also a high fiber food. If it tastes anything like it,then it's gonna be a watery and slightly salty taste. In essence, very healthy but tastes like nothing. In South India, people cook it with lentils and tamarind.
      p.s:don't eat if you have ibd/crohn's 😬
