According to the wiki:
With the baby good mimic, each individual dog has a chance of digging up an item, both will play the digging animation when one of them finds an item.
So I call mimic abuse and since both can dig, you cannot keep track of the real dog, so I also can animal abuse.

I swear somebody went through multiple runs with both to make sure , but I guess how can you really know. We can pretend it helps then.
