- After defeating the Bahrag Queens, our beloved Toa Mata fell into energized protodermis, leaving them transformed into Toa Nuva. The sets for the Toa Nuva were released in 2002 and in this video we'll review all 6 of them.

A HUGE advantage of the silver weapons is that besides the fact that they actually look like metal, they are WAY more versatile for MOCS. A silver weapon can be used for all kind of characters, while a "colored" weapon can only be used for characters that fit into that color scheme.
Woah, never thought about it like that, but you're on the money
Forget Mocs, lego reused those air swords a thousand times
@@Doc51499 Yeah, but they could have recolored it for those other sets. Indeed, there are 2 recolors that I can remember, one that's a lighter grey and the burn orange from Gukko.
also the shape design, for instance, Tahu's fire blade couldn't fit that well even if its neutral colour.
@@scarredable It could work as water waves or air wind streaks.
who needs to wait for wandavision every friday when you get mata nui mondays as your weekly series? i was waiting for this review so much, keep it up dude
Putting the joy into Mondays
Now wandavision is over this hits harder lol
Yes, and these stick the landing a whole lot better

The production quality of these reviews is insane. Loving the content; someone finally had to do em like this!
Thanks Zach! Love the stuff you've been putting out lately
A legend spoke 🙌
True, its the best :)
It is true
No the legend hasnt spoke he has reborn
Kopaka Nuva was my very first Bionicle set, he is still incredible after almost 20 years. The creative and art direction Bionicle took on those years is one of the best toy designs in history. Even in a 100 years they'll look fantastic. Great review as always.
Couldn't agree more!
My first was Lewah Nuva... My late Nan got him for me at christmas along with the mask of light movie and I remember being obsessed with it for years, the model I never had and always wanted was the red Rakshi which I never found. I also remember really wanting Kopaka but he was always sold out xD
Love the dual-action abilities. It's funny to think that in canon, the Toa Nuva kept this gearbox body appearence for the longest time, even with concurrent Piraka/Inika build characters
Tahu Nuva was so dope in the opening scene of the movie it inflated his price lol
Toa Nuva = A tier (I personally think they're overhated. And they hold a special place in my heart because Gali Nuva was my first ever Bionicle set)
Man I really miss the old bionicles. Nothing beats opinging those canisters amd pouring out the pieces.
Gali: I got flippers!
Tahu: I got a surfboard!
Kopaka: I got skis!
Pohatu: I got a rock.
Lewa: I gotta bend my arms round my back and it hurts
K O H L I I B A L L
But seriously pohatu's rock looks like a top quality kohlii ball , maybe it could be called "the blaster,"
Pohatu's Got a 🅱️ A L L
Onua: I got roller skates!
Takanuva : your weapons have other functions!? all I can do is put this stick on my back!
The Toa Nuva can be described by 1 sentence:
Work it harder, make it better, do it faster, makes us stronger
I have so much nostalgia for these, though I can't say I love the mask design. I think they leaned a little too heavily toward the organic side of Bionicle, some are better than others. I think a modern dual-molded take on these masks would be very impressive adding some flame color to Tahu, transparency to Gali, or other highlights. Overall a classic line, the armor and the multi-function weapons are essential pieces. Can't wait to see more!
I definitely missed the transparent Gali mask now that you mention it
Bruh, the hype around this set was unreal. It was like pokemon gold and silver for bionicle fans lol. Brings back memories
I do believe they started making the masks thicker due to the fragility of the original masks, lewas and pohatus masks were highly sucseptible to breaking or bending, later masks were even thicker or from a softer plastic like the toa metrus masks
Interesting comment about the mask quality/thickness. When I was a kid I seriously LOVED these masks and thought they were crafted so well for being a tiny piece of plastic. Seriously nostalgic stuff keep up the good work!
this is such a nostalgic set for me, Lewa Nuva was the first Bionicle I remember building myself. Really got me into bionicles. Can't wait to see the Rahkshi they are my favorite bad guys.
My kindergarten mates and I used to have almost all the sets. I still have a couple of them in parts. What a lovely way for a throwback. You are doing fantastic content!
Fun Fact: On the swords of Tahu you can see the design of the sword of Tahu from the first edition.
Great to see these classic sets getting modern reviews with this kind of production quality. I'm going to binge the older videos now, good stuff!
Fun fact: the thicker leg/hand molds (the one that gali has on all and others have on legs) are actually like armor for the original one, you can see the hole on the original one and from the behind of the new one there is a tiny line at roughly the same spot
Awesome vid, I remember being mindblown by the silver stuff as a 6yo haha.
Agreed on the masks, they seem a bit overstylized in my opinion. Can’t beat the classic designs of the OG kanohi.
when i think about bionicles, this line is what comes to my mind. for me its the most iconic, even though bionicles in my childhood at its peak was in like 2006-2009 and by then my friends had a lot of 2002-2005 i could play with when i went to their house.
These are the ones I grew up playing with. Your video is fantastic!
I remember when I got my Tahu Nuva I actually took the parts from the set and put the armor/new weapons/new leg pieces and put them on my old Tahu, so that he "put on" the armor.
I just bought the whole set today to make it up to the younger me 💪🏽 Wasn’t cheap. I’m surprised to hear that people disliked the Toa Nuva set. I loved these growing up and I always wished to have Kopaka.
I started getting into Bionicle when the Toa Nuva were prominent and when the movie was out. I see a lot of people seeing the Toa Mata as the truest Bionicles, but to me, the Toa Mata and the rahi felt lanky, naked, and cheap. The Toa Nuva had a much greater sense of presence. The color-matched weapons of the Toa Mata also gave me a vibe of "this is made to appeal to kids", whereas the silver weapons and armor of the Toa Nuva helped it have the vibe of "this is embodying a character"
The Bohrok were really the only segment of the earlier products that appealed to me.
Whether recreating Mask of Light, or making up my own games for them fighting alongside the Bohrok, against the Rahkshi, and many Rahi... The Toa Nuva were very fun to play with.
Lewa, Kopaka, and Onua are my favorites, but I do wish Onua had bigger arms, maybe even if he kept his Mata form's arm pieces. Like Kopaka's shield arm used the piece from his Mata form's sword arm.
After so many years I've found all six at sale (used and without canister sadly) for 30 usd! So happy that now I know my fav team
I actually really love the Nuva, and their masks. I do prefer the Toa Mata, but Mask of Light was such a fun film that I can't help but enjoy these figures.
I liked how these original toa nuva sets were more distinct in the armour and the actual bio-mechanical bodies unlike the phantoka and mistika incarnations.
I remember when I bought my first Bionicle, It was the brown one and I felt in love with the series instantly.
The overhated and under appreciated Toa Nuva
*underhated *over appreciated
@@tristanlee8495 I should rephrase it, most of them are a direct improvement over their Toa Nostalgia counter parts
@@boogie1434 Okay, so I was making a joke, however, almost none of them are improvements over their originals, all the masks have weirdly organic shaping that's harsh against the mechanical look of the rest of the body and the armour overbulks the torso and makes the toa (in my opinion) look fat rather than more armoured. I'd say they captured the story idea that the energized protodermis *mutated* them, however in the set design they just look... ugly. To me the only good things to come out of the Nuva sets were the shoulder armour and the Nuva Legs.
@@tristanlee8495 that’s your preference but I like the aesthetic.
Playability wise most of them are upgrades though, a Toa of fire with a lava board, a Toa of ice with skiis, a Toa of water with flippers, a Toa of earth with...I don’t even know but it cool.
deserved
I was waiting all day for this video also great video
Thank you!
Hey, I just discovered your channel today, and I've been binging your videos. I've been looking for a biomicle review series with this quality for so long, and its exactly what I've wanted. Instant sub
Glad to hear that! Welcome to the channel, the journey is just beginning.
They are just so iconic ! My all-time-favourites ❤️
Man, I remember getting these guys back in the day! I actually got Onua, Kopaka, and Pohatu Nuva for Christmas. Memories.
The Toa Nuva were my first bionicles (I think Lewa was my first, but Tahu was my favourite), so despite any issues they had, they always had a special place in my heart.
The instruction manuals curling up in the fast motion sequences made me laugh ngl, I remember fighting those things back in the day 😂
Though I never had any of these, it's fascinating to consider that Pohatu's mask went from being one of the smallest as a Toa Mata, to being one of the largest as a Toa Nuva. Since it wasn't shown here, Lewa Nuva's secondary function is using his Air Katanas as gliders. Quite a few parts in these sets including the leg limbs would become more rare in the following years, with some of them being in sets from other themes such as the short-lived "Vikings" in 2005. As for the weapons, the Magma Swords from Tahu Nuva were used as part of an alarm clock in 2003, and the Ice Blades from Kopaka Nuva were recolored in sand blue for some Alpha Team sets in '04. Pohatu Nuva's climbing claws would appear in a few more sets after this, with one being in the "Shadow Crawler" from Exo-Force in 2007.
I love that with the silver weapons you can take one of them and if you have a kanohi nuva in a different color than what's in the set you could make say a blue pohatu
I was not happy when these came out. I love my OG Toa Mata
Call me naïve, but I never knew the Toa Nuva were apparently despised. I love the unifying silver, like knights of a round table.
When I was a kid I wanted the original toa, but I only ever saw them once in store and I thought it was the wrong one; because it was called Technic not Bionicle and regretted it, so instead I wanted a bohrok. They never sold it.
The the toa nuva came out and I used my pocket money to buy every single one I could. Little did I know of the world I was getting into. Also my first bionicle was Gali.
I liked blue and she was cool!
I was 5 when these toys was in stores and i can definetly say that these canisters drew you in with an almost magic power.
they look great, I only need Gali and Kopaka to complete my Collection ( this were the only one I missed)
Le plaisir de voir ces canettes sur des étagères de rayons jouets dans les magasins. Incomparable.
Lewa may not have a different weapon placement on his body, he was able to fly when posed in a certain way. It's like they were saying "Hey, if he does THIS he can glide or fly."
Excellent video, greetings from Lima, Perú.
Remember always wanting Onua as a kid... 😭
Good thing I still have my original Toa Tahu from when they were released 😊
This brings me back, I remember having just Gali nuva and onua mata
Oh my goodness, this brings me back so much!
Me thinking that phohatu won’t be fat:
LEGO: all your hopes are in my hands now I will crush them along with your spirit
Hopefully these videos can go on all the way thru G1 and into G2, I'd love to see reviews like this for the G2 bionicle sets
God I wish I was able to get my hands onto a complete set like that, just for nostalgia
I just noticed Pohatu and Kopaka have incorrect color of hands, while Tahu, Gali, Lewa and Onua's are red, blue, green and black, respectively.
I always wondered why they made Pohatu Nuva so thicc, they could've placed the sockets the same way Pohatu Mata had.
He does sumo
I used to hate the toa nuva, but they grew on me 😃
Jesus....this is a awesome review.
:') old good memories
Again, definitely jealous of seeing the old kits... which I missed. Darn my young mind not focusing on toys and just studying. Darn.
FIRE HAS NO PURPOSE! FIRE CONSUMES ALL!
This is awesome! Great review
To be honest I'm pretty sure they could easily put more armor on kaita. Smaller one could use chest armor on... Well, chest. Whenever it would be rotated or not, I'm not sure which one would look better. And taller one could also use it on lower torso as well. I'm not sure how to use pauldrons, but I'm sure I used to put every one of them as kid. Guess it's time to rebuild them.
damn this is nostalgic
I wonder if the thicker masks had to do with LEGO's focus on the kanohi game and the idea that masks would be getting knocked off and potentially stood on. I do prefer the older designs, but I'd put money on Lewa Nuva's mask surviving accidental stomps better than the OG Miru.
Where did you find these guys? They look so new for an old set
Tahu was my ver first bionicle figure
I love your vids and the lego bionicle
are amazing it would cool if reviewed the 2015
now this is epic
i never found a Gahli...i started bionicle with these guys...and to this day i regret i never got the blue one
I've personally always preferred the mata. never liked the bulky designs or silver armour of the the nuva
Wait.
“The bulky designs ARE silver armour”
Not to be that guy, but..
@@zetasann yeah but it applies to the masks and legs too
@@tobis2612 I was talking about you’re grammar.
That’s why I said that I didn’t want to be “that guy”
@@zetasann oh i didn't even realize lol
I love the weapons, and Toa Nuva BUT, Kopaka’s weird twin bladed I feel isn’t as cool as his original sword.
Just got the whole set, for about 65 euros I'm happy... cans and book included
On brick link the toa are £0.17 in new/used
Out of all the toa nuva which is your favorite?
Are you going to review all the Bionicle sets?
I much prefer the Toa Mata, both back then as a child and now.
The masks were a huge reason. I love the ancient, mysterious, bionic look of the original Toa Mata masks. They were each really angular and minimalistic. The original masks are likely the primary reason why the Mata set, and the bionicle universe itself in the early days, had such an aura of ancient mystery. With the Toa Nuva, I find the "organic" pet-faced masks really ugly. Lewa is a great example. The Lewa Mata mask was my favorite as a child, it was badass and aero-dynamic. The Lewa Nuva mask looks like a hamster, and that always really bothered me. Similar with Pohatu Nuva's pug mask. I was also disappointed that Gali Nuva's mask was no longer transparent, as this made her really stand out in the Mata set.
Additionally, I don't like the silver armor. I think it makes each figure less unique, which is something I loved about the Mata set. The armor itself is not an issue for me, its just the color. I would've been more happy if the armor fit the figure's color palette more, even if it were still metallic in texture.
I also wish the weapons weren't silver, as the different colors in the Mata set again contributed to making each figure more unique. Additionally, some of the weapons in the Nuva set are kind of ugly in form. However, I LOVE the additional functionality of the weapons: the ability to lava-board or ski is super badass.
I also like the slightly more consistent design philosophy across the Toa in the Nuva set. However, I feel the legs of the Toa were kind of ugly. It didn't bother me so much that they were wider, just that they were so flat and less bionic looking.
My first mata nui Monday
Welcome aboard
Trank you
IT'S HERE, SOUND THE ALARM!
Their masks are thicker cause of the armor upgrades. Makes more sense to have a more armored mask on, more dense to match the weight of the armor.
Thanks for making the video^^
My favourite melted kanohi lol
I'm curious if there's anyway to purchase these old sets such of the toa mata , toa nuva and the legends of metru nui sets but purchase them sealed ?
You can definitely buy sealed ones, they're just significantly more expensive
dude where are you getting them?
Just wondering, will this series be continuing on your website? I've really enjoyed this series, but the Bahrag review never appeared on your site.
Yes! Those blogs will get up there soon enough, I'm hoping to catch back up on them in the near future. Two weeks ago I got a concussion so I've really focused on at least producing the Mata Nui Monday content but didn't write the blogs just yet to keep screen time down.
The toa of water approaches THE TOA OF WATER-
Am i the only one who thinks toa mata look much more iconic? The nuva masks of onua lewa and pohatu are way too similar to each other. Especially considering how unique each mata mask was before these came out. At least tahu and kopaka’s masks seem to be inspired by the original designs.
Hi, can I ask, where are you from?
what is the tubes for?
Where did you buy these ? Do you have a website where I'll be able to purchase Bionicles ?
Try eBay or bricklink
I was never a fan of how samey they looked, the masks have similar designs and silver armor covers up their unique body colors and designs
I think even just replacing the Nuva masks with Mata masks would salvage these sets for me, which to be fair, is up to the person building them
The first bionile set i got was the 2015 lewa
5:33 Ko-Koro Mata nui Houses ❄☃️
Lego currently has a technic survey happening if u want to tell them to bring Bionicle back.
Where fo you buy from?
when they came out we wanted them all but our parents couldn't afford them
now that we have our own money and broken childhoods lego doesn't make them anymore
and buying online is always something
missing parts, no instruction, something has dents
if lego would make re-runs of those sets they would make billions
Love them
It's still kind of bugs me you are all the agile TOA makes the most bulky combination model I feel like they should swap the models
What's the name of the white one
Toa Kopaka
toa mata > toa nuva, change my mind (lol) [dafuq they done to my boy Onua?! Looks nothing like he did as a toa mata]... sorry, me no likey (lol)
