This guy matches colors unlike anyone i have ever seen he is so accurate from the shadows and lighting. I learned so much about color values from his videos. One step at a time.
What a great teacher. What an experienced artist. And the most incredible advice which is hard to apply, not to blend at all is the right way for results like this amazing painting here. Thank you very much Mark.
This actually helped me. I have a bad habit of blending and "licking" the canvas to death. I have to stop. This gave me confidence to knock it off and just let it be. Excellent and helpful video as usual.
Love, love, love your videos. I just spent several days at the MET and the MoMA, inspired to start painting again, but was scared to start! This video reminds me about process, and so I feel much less intimidated to begin. Thank you!!
Im a newbie only only been painting a year and a half. I was so lucky you were the teacher I found first. Videos like this inspire and encourage me thank you so much!
I used to paint billboards;doing pictorial or photo reference work with oils. One of my mentors at the company taught me this approach; dark values first;very minimal blending if at all; and lighter values/colors were always after the darks. So awesome to see this! I miss the painting; but don’t miss the heights I had to work at. Great video! Thank you!
I started painting a few years ago. Mark's videos have been a major reference for material, technique and method. I love how he takes something that I never though I could do and disassembles it to logical steps and methods that result in a painting nearly right out of the gate. This teacher and artist is just amazing.
Been a long time subscriber here, but haven't visited your channel in a while because my priorities have shifted towards illustration more, but after watching this I immediately picked up my brushes and started oil painting again. I'm glad that your channel wasn't removed from my recommendations.
I learn a lot from your videos..... actually after watching your videos I fall in love with oil painting....and oil is my first mediam...I never try water colour or aclayric colour....
Hello Sir... A huge fan of your painting style and instructional videos. I think most artist fade away due to their vague goals as an artist. Query 1. Could you please make a video on how an artist should plan his journey as an artist? Query 2. What should be his small check points and major goals as an artist? Thanks you again sir for posting AMAZING INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS !!
🙏🏼🙏🏼👌🏻 when it comes to subtleties of painting, you are the right up there with the gods of artistic world. Blessed are your pupils who get a first hand tutelage from you!!
This reminds me of paint by number painting. I always thought portioning or graphing a drawing was cheating in a sense but this works. Nice video love that there is no music.
I just bought some Geneva paint and I love it. Geneva paint and Da Vinci artist oils are the best paints you can buy in my opinion. Both are perfect right out of the tube. Geneva is far more value for money. You cannot beat the quality you get for the price Geneva paints are. Thank you for your videos and quality products.
Great teaching Mark, beautiful painting. I find it very hard to paint Roses, watching how you do the background and the darks first will help me to paint Roses. Thank for sharing, and just want to add that your paints are great.
Thank you so much Mark for so freely sharing your valuable experience. I hope to make it to one of your classes in Austin in the future. Greetings from Sweden.
How long did the actual painting take to paint? I love the putting paint down and leaving it. I can see that more on impressionist paintings, this looks more blended than it is. Beautiful!

Why does the lighting have to be above. Why not a light either side of the artist at eye level, but slightly behind the face/eyes, lighting directly onto the work?
How do you keep your preliminary drawing so accurate during the process of the painting? Once I cover the lines of my drawing with paint I lose the accuracy of the drawing.

Bouguereau blended PERFECTLY and HIS paintings are the BEST EVER- no on can surpass Bouguereau!
@@larrywakeman4371 Carder is big fun of Bouguereau and Velasquez the influencer of Bouguereau. Dont try to teach him how to paint.

Even with your instructions being methodical and patient, the micro and macro result still amazes me! Blessed be. :-)
Thanks Mark I remember this painting, I made your colour checker years ago using a wooden door stopper, it's brilliant.
Looks awesome, very well done!

Beautiful.
It is amazing to watch how you work through your Piece. The Dark color in Background. Do you add any other colors to the Black? Ultramarine Blue….?
Fantastic!!!!

You could paint a really good T-1000 from Terminator 2 with those skills. I'd love to see it with the reflections all over it.
This is great, thank you very much

Pls notice her, her name is huda
Is this made” a la prima” or did you wait to get dry and apply the next layer like in the rose, I noticed 3 different layers isn’t?
Your work is inspiring. Could you please tell for how much can this work sell? I want to know price range for doing commissions. Thank you
Wow
Did you do any glazing on this one?
i desprately want your refrence image
How do you paint straight thin dark lines?
Anyone know which video he's talking about for this still life? I see a different still life video on the website.
