I have and play the Viennese Zither. Am from Austria. And just FYI, we call "B" an "H" in German and the B flat is what we call "B". You are right!

Yes, Bach used the Natural sign to show the key of B and in his penmanship it looked like an H on his scores. I learned that in music history class!

Same in Sweden too. But we have mostly adopted the B now instead.

Harpeliekas are also well known in Latvia, which had a large German population and Sweden, which ruled Latvia for over a hundred years, seem to have introduced them to the Latvians who make and play a larger version. What brand name is on the label? Hopf is the German manufacturer - called Musima during the Russian occupation of East Germany.

In German B is called "H" whilst Bb (B flat) is called "B". This regularly confuses Germans when playing with English speaking people vice versa. Flats are called "Bs" or B-chen" (little Bs), sharps are called "Kreuz" (oder Kreuzchen).
    Nice video!

LOVELY! I had mentioned the Harpeleik in a comment on your Ukelin video, and am delighted to see this version of what I grew up hearing my Norwegian grandmother play. She played her "Norwegian Zither" turned 45 degrees from the position you use, and she played with a pick until her arthritis got so bad she had to use a sturdy match stick. Her zither was ordered from Norway in 1926 and had 8 groups of 8 strings (so much prettier a sound than an autoharp which deadens unwanted notes in a chord) and a unique feature that according to my mother NEVER worked. It had a cam on the right side that was supposed to drop a string a half step to produce a minor chord. It seems your version has minor chords among the choices! I inherited my grandmother's zither, ordered a set of strings and had a crack in the top repaired. Unfortunately the craftsman I finally found who put the new strings on for me did NOT get the strings all at the same level, which has made it far less easy to play and it just sits in a closet now. That zither was made in Germany and labeled a Harpeleik. It's not near me right now so I can't tell you the company that produced it. It was also painted black and had a lovely floral design handpainted on it. We seldom hear music on these unique instruments and I am delighted to find your wonderful videos!

FWIW, I had the tremendous good fortune to spend an evening tonight at an old, stone-built drovers' hostelry deep in the hidden Welsh hills.
