One of the first books I read as a kid(1963) was 'Guadalcanal Diary'. Thanks for bringing this place to life Dave. Not a movie, but an actual battlefield.
Thanks Dave for developing this channel. I have always been fascinated with history in general, especially WWII. I have always wanted to go to Guadalcanal and your videos give me a chance to experience it visually. I just finished Leaving Mac Behind by Geoffrey W. Roecker, it was an excellent book.
I'm a avid fan of your channel Dave, it's really unique, the work you are putting in to document the battles of Guadalcanal. I never get tired of listening and watching your film clips.
I realized by the channel title you specialize in Guadalcanal. I've caught your short videos on Tulagi and Gavutu but do you plan to do any other of the Solomon Islands? Maybe Bougainville or even beyond to New Britain? Short of a battlefield trip, I think you're the only one giving these battlefields the on the spot attention they deserve. You were also a very good addition to the Unauthorized History of the Pacific War podcast!
I might have to one day and thanks. I really liked discussing on that podcast with those two. It’s a high quality one and is gaining popularity quickly. I have one more that probably will be out next week with them featuring the US Army and the end of the land campaign.
I wish i'dve had this kind of detailed information about the fighting on Guadalcanal when i visited in 1992. I had read several books over the years before joining the Navy,I didnt know our ship was going to stop there (it was unscheduled stop made on deployment) I had very limited time, and no maps or even my books for locations/reference for most of the locations you are covering,God Bless you for doing this and i hope you can get back there to do more
Hello Dave. I just binged watched the Guadalcanal episodes on the Unauthorized Pacific War channel and really enjoyed your input in those videos. I just read "Victory Fever" that you recommended and enjoyed it thoroughly. Appreciate the recommendation and keep up the great work.
Great to see an upload by you and also great you're getting the chance to get back to Guadalcanal. I'm betting if you only get a week that you'll be busy! I hope it all works out for you and I look forward to your content from that trip. All the best to you Dave! 🪖👍
Thanks again Dave fora great informative video. As a former Marine, I enjoy these articles of history. I'm 70 and I'd love to be able to travel there. Unfortunately health issues will keep me from it. I guess I hummed too many hills as a young marine with only C rats for nourishment.
good film Dave and thank you. I walked that ridge from Edsons ridge to the Basilone position in late may '23. Wasn't sure where the IJA 29IR broke through and this provides good perspective. The trail at the top of that long ridge continues east and drops to the jungle floor - did the fighting reach where that spur drops into the jungle? Lots of US holes in that area, easy to get disoriented down there and swams of skeeters. Using the base of that spur as a reference point.
My father-in-law was on Guadalcanal for the festivities in '42. So, I asked him if he ever came close to being killed. He thought for minute and said, "Me and two other guys were sent out into the jungle with a truck to do something, I don't remember what. We looked around and seeing no officers, decided to take a nap in the back of the truck. Well, some officer caught us and had us standing there for a good chewing out. As this was occurring there was a loud snap and a huge tree fell crushing the truck." Cheers.
I don’t have a specific one but have been on a number of them. My most recent is a number on the best Guadalcanal podcast series out there. The unauthorized history of the pacific war. I have a Facebook site titled the same as my RUclips site

Yes the main fighting was that jungle flat from the bottom of the ridge across the east to Coffin Corner.
Did the military occupy Guadalcanal for any period of time after the war was over ?
Yes until 1948.

Hi, Did the Japanese have any tanks or armored vehicles on Guadalcanal?
Yes they brought a company of 12 on in October. Most were destroyed on the Matanikau River attack.
