‘Pioneer’ is a great word to apply to Haydn, whilst ‘Father’ is pure disinformation as he had absolutely nothing to do with the conception* of the early symphony, and it’s unfair on composers like Johann Stamitz, Richter, Holzbauer, Fils, Sammartini, Wagenseil, Monn, et al who between then had written hundreds of modern early-Classical symphonies from about 1740 before Haydn got round to his first one in 1757. ‘Papa’ is unfortunate, it was already being used as a term of ridicule and contempt by Beethoven’s circle in the 1790’s, and no other great composer seems to be stuck with such a patronising and demeaning nickname today - a tiny number of people entitled so to do used it in Haydn’s time; we’re not, and shouldn’t. Papa is of course also a complete misnomer as even in his oldest age, his music retained an astonishing degree of youthful vigour which just makes a complete mockery of this stupid nickname. * A father by definition *must* be involved at the conception; Haydn wasn’t, so couldn’t have been.
I think Schumann coined the term 'Papa Haydn' and meant it in a condescending way, as for someone elderly and living in the past.@@georgebreidenthal725

This sounds so fresh, vibrant, and spontaneous. Like a glass of orange juice with your breakfast. Robin Witting England
... or a cup of Earl Grey tea and a crumpet mid-afternoon - eh what, Robin?
The father of the modern symphonic for and a pioneer of the piano sonata its no wonder he referred to as Papa Hadyn.

Elainebaackhurst1509 What's wrong with the term father or papa?
@@georgebreidenthal725 I don't know. You tell me.
Bet you get " Blackhursted " she doesn't like the Papa, bit not sure why.

Ein großes ❤️ für diese Musik des Glücks,ja!
Festive symphony 1761 or earlier Due to strange catalogue system, predates No6! New to me, great fun.
It_s so lovely !!!
하이든 음악이여 영원하라~!!
Invigorating🤗!! Many Thanks.
감사합니다
Thx & brawo
Nota-se que a orquestração de Haydn inspirou Beethoven. Os diálogos entre as cordas são magistrais. Um Primavera Sinfônica.
