  • Planted on land that was once a hangout for crack addicts and a dumping ground for trash, a fruit and vegetable garden is flourishing in a Rio de Janeiro favela. Residents tend to the community garden that has brought hope to the entire district.

Thanks you DW. It felt good to see something positive in these horrible times.

Yes. Before this video I watched one showing Vladimir Putin telling that Russia's "noble aims" will be reached in Ukraine. What a depressing man (rather a monster). Compare him to the manager of the garden on this video. One destroys and kills, the other creates and helps. Putin isn't worthy to touch the gardener's shadow.

There's nothing positive here if you know how things work.
They don't let anyone inside the favelas. If you enter it, it is because the crime lords were payed for it.
Basically this video is a perpetuation of misery in levels you cannot comprehend. Even Ukrainians have more then them.
Did you know tourists actually pay for guided tours to favelas? The crime goes up in the political tree, Poo-tin samba style, if you will.

@@RAY-THE-WAY There are lots of these in America. particularly abandoned lots in old industrial cities like Detroit that became community gardens after the real estate collapse in 2008. How friendly a city is going to be to the idea is going to depend on the city, of course, but state and federal government has pretty much nothing to do with it.

@@loganwolfram4216 yes that's right I live in canada but heard about Detroit making an urban garden, it changes the whole face of a community.

Just think how much food there would be and how easily available to all communities that did this. Great work, amazing knowledge and you stay physically and mentally healthy.

Nice but the beds don't need to be so deep. For most food crops 6" is deep enough. The Square Foot Garden method is best, I found, growing vegetables over 6 years in Ontario.

Amazing model of global citizenship- we all deserve nourishment, on all levels of living. Now phase 2- bring the medicinal heritage herbs into your garden. Those who’s spirit is spoken to about the healing of herbal preparations will come to you. 🌟 shine on and light the way!

Such a great idea. They should definitely allocate space and replicate this around the other favelas/communities as soon as possible. Also think about planting fruit trees as well. Fruit trees can even grow from seeds, thus infinite food. So many amazing fruits in Brazil, Mango Palmer, Acai, huge avocados and passionfruits etc.
