I haven't heard of this place and always bought mine from a place for the past 25 years I wanna say. They are all I wear. Even had jobs I could wear them to. Particularly boat repair work last 8 or 9 years. When I go out, they are what I'm wearing. It never ceases to amaze people, or friends that see how often someone always comments on them. ("I like those sandals." " I Iove them."Jesus sandals.") Born and raised in FL so even during the winter they are what I wear. Shoes and other sandals always wear out far faster. As an artist, I also enjoy working with my hands. I have yet to make my own pair, but it's nice to be able to fix them. ~Panzik Artistry
When I first became familiar with the community, around 5 years ago, I always said I would spend most of my outside of factory work on making sandals. Although I have grown into a more outdoorsy type in the past years I could still see the satisfaction in creating something in a relatively short amount of time by hand. Great video. Hope to see more soon
Giving away all the trade secrets! Haha But... showing what an artisanal hand-crafted product this is. I remember visitors sometimes being disappointed that they couldn't do this during their visitor period because it took too much skill and time to be a job for visitors. It's great to see Don. What a mensch!
Hello 👋 My name is Sophya, and I am so excited about making these sandals! I would like to know how to create it, but problem is I am from different country and can not travel to you( is it possible to do it online? Thank you 🙏
Where can I purchase the wide soldering tips? I need some for my at home crafting. Those sandals are great, I wish they made them in my size, I’d buy a few.
@@EastWindCommunity1973 thank you, and please tell Don he’s rad! I really enjoyed watching the sandal process video. Also, if possible ask him if he can make a kid size my foot is 8.5” from heel to toe and 3.5” at the widest point…I’m an adult with small feet, and would love to purchase products from ya’ll instead of a big box company. Much love. ✌🏻❤️
I am so very interested in learning how to do this. I've looked at your site and have read through everything, but i don't see contact info to send required letter for request to visit.
Please please help me. I have a pair of rope sandals and the strap that goes around the back of my foot, is too tight. I can not wear them. They are brand new. Is there a way to stretch them and if there is, please tell me how to do it. Thank you
If you listen to the video you can hear that it is a custom-built machine that required a year of tweaking to perfect. So this is the only one I know of!
Hello! You can call the front desk (number is on our website) to order. Depends on how you use them, of course! They hold up really well in the city, decades even. On rough Ozark trails with heavy usage they might last two or three years.
They last forever...my daughter made sandals at East Wind in the '90's and i've worn them thru the years. I get them grubby in the garden, hose them off, let them dry and put them back on. They look and feel great. I'm in the Boston/Cambridge area and they wear out sooner when i wear them on the concrete....but, still, they last and last.
Have no fear! I'm still at the videomaking thing, when I have the time. I'm cooling off on this channel for a minute, probably have a couple more videos to put up (a bunch of reposts, as well). Started the "Ozarks Music Scene" (one video) and two other channels (no videos yet). Just playing my role in the process of adaptive radiation we are witnessing on this planet. Thanks for the support!

My daughter Sharon (Poppy) was there at East Wind in the 90's....she worked making Sandals when they made them in the Trailer ...
Aw, Sharon... she was a teenager when I arrived at East Wind. She and Kara Jo ruled that trailer. That was where all the cool kids hung out.

No, these are acquired via a special relationship. Probably can't get them very easily.

I believe Don machines them himself.

hi where can i get this kind of rope? Thanks
The rope is primarily scrap rope from Twin Oaks Community hammocks business. I do not know where you would source the rope direct.
I would love to know what the burning tool is called or where to get one!
soldering iron...with a wide blade...can find them every where...just need a good one that can keep its heat up
I want to learn this one too! How to apply?
Please please help me.

Hello,

Thanks

The machine is basically a mangle iron with some advanced engineering attached. The machine was made by Peter Holmes in probably 1976.
What happened to the sandals trailer?
Storage, might be gone by now, though!
What material are the sandals made of? Plastic? Nylon?
Polypropylene.
About how long do the sandles last if I was to where them daily. I visited you website and really want to order a pair.
I simply love them and I would like to get a pair and help support your community
