I love the broom analogy. I ve never looked at the broom that way. But I have said " it's job security" after cleaning an area and then cleaning it again an hour later. Your videos are great!! And full of information!!
You made me tear up. The importance of any job and what it brings to your life. I just recently applied for a custodial job, and I will keep your words on my mind. Your words really hit me.
As I sit here at this very moment wait on my wife to have surgery. It makes me even more thankful. To have a job that I have days available so I don’t miss any pay.
I'm a custodian working in Illinois. It's nice and refreshing to see a person in the business who makes videos just discussing the work and helping other custodians with advice and whatnot. Hope you are doing well, and nice video Jeff :)
I'm a custodian now for 2 years and I take my breaks maybe not always on time but when I remember I take them because I need to relax catch my breath from all the walking I do haha!!
Again well said mr Jeff. I had a few kids come up to me the other day and say.... mr David we know you was cleaning on the other side of the school. We had a spill and we got it up for you. Thank you for keeping the school clean. We hope we did it right. Things like that goes a long way.
Thank you for sharing the broom part, I been in the custodial Field for 2 years going on 3. I felt like I wanna move on & do something else, now that part Makes me feel better in myself to stick around with the cleaning industry.
I really enjoy being a janitor. I feel very appreciated where I work and I have felt appreciated in most of the buildings I have worked in. I have a good relationship with all of the staff and I don't feel like I'm just the janitor.
I’ve been a custodian since last June and of course the summer lasted until the kids came back in November and before Christmas they were out again. March 1 is the next day they come back at 50% capacity. We’ve already endured a slow year and for someone new and eager like me to work it feels like I’m overpaid most of the time. I’m ready for things to get back to some normalcy because we’ve been told this summer we will not be stripping or throwing down wax because of the lack of traffic this year. I really love your videos and they give me hope. This may be thought of the lesser of jobs but in the end it will be appreciated the most.
Yes I am already seeing that. There are 3 of us and the other 2 are on their last last year or so and they are not worried about anything. I am really trying so hard not to stress but nearly daily I am lectured on cleaning too much. They do their cleaning generally once a week and that is on Fridays, our deep clean day. I follow your cleaning bathrooms video from a while back and it is so effective and efficient. I never would have imagined cleaning too much, especially during a pandemic.
Nice video sir. I myself work at a international school in California for 12 years now. Some days are really bad but some days are good. That’s why it’s always a good idea to take a break even when your busy. That’s a fact. 😎
I'm a janitor in a nursery. I was previously a janitor in a school that I job shared with another janitor who didn't pull her weight and expected to be carried. Now that I've moved buildings , it's great, I work on my own and I'm not carrying a lazy colleague .
Yo, I have totally become a subscriber and an active listener. Thank you for the good information I will pass this along to my guys I am a supervisor, and I try to look for ways to inspire and have them appreciate the jobs that they’re at.
What we do as custodians is important, I just wish the people we did it for felt the same. As to breaks, we are not supposed to combine our lunch with our breaks
Mr. Jeff I believe you have a fair relationship with our Lord yes? I haven't heard a word about it but i feel it. Have you ever used some of your break time to strengthen your soul by reading or studying in the book? I'm trying to start using my breaks in that fashion. Thank you for your channel and time.
Yes I am a Christian ! I use my lunch time everyday to get in the word. I just have finished listening to David Jeremiah. Click over here and seen this. I can’t make it through my day without Gods help. To much of me shows up if I do. Sometimes to much of me shows up any ways. Thank goodness for Grace. I don’t share my faith on this channel openly I just put some points out there about life that give a hint of it. So may your relationship with our Lord be strengthened.
Hey Jeff, I'm a fellow custodian. What you think about taking more than the allotted breaks? I have diabetes. And some times feel bad about having to take extra breaks. And what do you think about custodians getting paid salary? I think we should as long as we get the work done then go home. Instead of wasting time sometimes. Unless salary means on call? Could you do a video on these. I enjoy your channel and encouragement. Thanks? - I do have more Q 's.
I really think that would be between you and your boss on breaks. Personal what we think should happen doesn’t matter. We are hired to be there a certain amount of hours and days. Even if we are caught up or not.
When I saw a video of yours earlier, I was wondering how come y’all didn’t have the Sanitaire or any commercial vacuums as the vacuums to use for the carpets?
Thanks for video. I had to do some research because I just got my 1st janitor job I’m 21 and decided to make the “big girl step” I’m working 3rd shift at a Tyson factory (so lots of blood and meat) they put me upstairs with another girl and she gave me ALL the big areas!!! So it takes me forever to clean them (by 4am I wanna go home..) but I’ve been staying till 5am 😒 I start complaining because I’m grumpy and tired 😓 all the other girls have already went home and 1st shift comes in at 5:30am. My boss walks by I’m still cleaning. It’s embarrassing honestly. Sometimes I quick clean but I TRY not to but by 4am my cleaning sucks. My body is so tired and starts to hurt. I have locker rooms, 4hallways, 2stairs, (swept and mopped) 2BIG break rooms, upstairs and downstairs!!! When I mop people always walk on it I can leave paths but that can put me behind. I’m trying to figure everything out and learn how to speed it up. I tend to skip my breaks because I want to hurry up and feel SO behind. Everyone else takes breaks so that could be why. I could be taking a break and thinking about quicker ways to clean the area that I’m at. We also have to write down all areas and the time we started and left for our boss. I always detail and my grandma always said, “don’t half butt clean anything.” I do lots of walking back and forth sometimes because I have to some I might be able to work on just haven’t figured it out yet. I wasn’t doing the mop in 8 figure at first but a lady told me about it after she laughed and said I’m going to hurt my back but my back still hurts every night. I just want to be able to clean a room fast and completely clean. I’m struggling with that it takes me hours 😩
I work sanitation in a chicken plant 30 years ago. I quit. Worse job I have ever had. Sounds like to me your way over loaded. You want to do a good job but sounds like to much for one person. You can work with a load like that long without burning out. I would keep my opinions open for something better.
@@mrjeffthecustodian thank you! I’m just working there now for the money.. I don’t know how long I’ll make it but I know it pays good until I can get to where I want to be. I need the money for school. 😒
