If there’s one thing I’ve learned from watching this show from the beginning on and off.. it’s that Jake has a heart of gold. This guy deserves the world.
@@jacobbaird4975 Yeah but it also just comes down to how you are as a person. Not every captain has to turn into a asshole just because they've been at it 30+ years.
No luck? He put in years as a deckhand not being allowed to captain, & right as he was wanting to captain & got shut down by sig, Elliot had him captain his boat. Fish & crab isn't all luck, it's a lot of knowing weather, what's going on in the ocean, where the creatures go
you mean the way they script and air the show? You are seeing hundreds of hours per season condensed into digestible 8 min clips on YT or 22 min eps on Discovery lol.
I watched the show since day 1 however haven’t tuned in last few years. Awesome watching these clips now and seeing how far Jake has come! Same w Josh as his brother, the other Jake, was way more destined early on to take over for one of the GOATs in Phil! That was a sad day
Seeing jake this happy with the pots, I can imagine how happy their grand fathers were fishing this fish mine during the depression. During the depression my grand father was 13, on a fishing boat bringing the money back to the family and for he himself of course, his final wish was for his ashes to be spread at sea. A soul now belonging to the ocean of angels.
It's amazing what those men went through to survive and ensure their children and children's children's have a good chance to thrive. It brings a tear to my eyes and makes me grateful.
I remember when Jake was painting his boat and Sig dropped him into the water. Those were the days. It's good to see him still fishing and having his niece on board too.
Same. I remember how everyone was saying that I would never allow another captain to do that to my captain, especially without permission to board. I'm saying that the show scripts everything except the actual catch. I mean, there's a photo out there of Sig getting outside the Dutch Harbor airport doors to a guy with a garden hose on a ladder simulating rain falling onto Sig when it's sunny out. It is a show. You have continuity directors that are involved and that's a side of filming that people outside of the industry don't understand. So who is in charge of continuity in films? Generally speaking, the Script Supervisor is responsible for continuity on a film set. The script supervisor watches many things related to continuity and making notes is a constant task. For example, they would answer the question of, say, what hand an actor used to pick a gun or when a character entered a scene. And so on. That said, continuity really falls to many departments simultaneously. Hair, makeup, and wardrobe are expected to prepare the actors to look as they should look in each scene and shot. Set dressers, scenics, and props are expected to have the sets and items ready that are matched and dressed and ready for the actors to perform in them. And it continues with camera and lighting. Sets need to have matching lighting and the DP and gaffer will work to do so. Camera department will handle continuity in their way as well….lenses, filters, and shot continuity (eyelines, screen direction, etc). To accomplish these things, all departments take many notes and shoot reference photos as needed. The script supervisor handles much continuity but needs the support of all the departments and vice-versa. The end result is largely successful. Mistakes happen of course and things get missed sometimes. But in our defense, there are of a ton of things that are caught and solved every single day. Actors and crew are typically very diligent about trying to accomplish good continuity.
Is it just me or are we watching a young man turn into an old man right before our eyes? Jake is incredible. He has so much love for what he does and everything is so genuine. I could;’t that’s his niece.

I don’t think people understand how much 90 fish is worth one of those pots. Those fish average 30 pounds at$10 whole sale that’s 350 per fish x 100 in one pot they hauled. That’s 35k….. the among of money is insane
Such a great show and series. If you ever get to do the deadliest catch tour in Ketchikan Alaska it’s well worth it. My wife had a blast. The crew on the tourist tour was all made up of salty sea guys. A ton of fun
I’ve never watched this show. But that got me excited about fishing 😦 I can’t believe that the amount of fish that must have died after that thing popped off, was equivalent to a ‘couple hundred pounds’ those mfs must be huge fish then
What I like about Jake he wasn’t handed the captains chair because he was part of a captains family he worked his ass off to be in that chair. And as much as the other captains make fun of him for doing things on his own I see that as someone I’d love to work for. When the boat breaks he’s the first down in that engine room trying to fix it. Other captains just yell stuff. Instead of freaking out on his crew he tries to motivate them and encourage them to be better. Dose Jake have those moment of stress yes he dose but who dosnt working a dangerous job.
He is sober but he did deal with alcoholism years ago but lack of sleep as his crew and other crews on boats pull out 15 plus hour grinds sometimes 24-48 hour grinds. He dealt with death of his sister and father tragically earlier in the shows run. Jake smokes cigarettes heavily but the stress of being a Captain takes it’s toll as has several of Captains including Sig Hansen who has had 2 heart attacks during the shows run.
The ditch is to contain all the runoff from the property and to monitor for oils, toxins, heavy metals that may be coming from the shop and parking or spills.
I expect he was quoting the value of ALL of the fish in the tank and saying that with the lid open all my 100 grand worth of cod are flapping about on the deck.... I mean if the whole lot of them isn't secure then you might well say that......
This sounds like a dumb question, but why do the pots look like Pikachu? I'm assuming this is just from how the netting on the inside is just hanging but the shape looks like a Pikachu And I wanted to know if I'm not crazy for asking this.
All of the woman in the world disappearing would not make you less insecure. Also, if we're going to play that game there a lot of things men can't seem to do that woman have no problems with. Like not raping people.
Men never cease to amaze me. Men whine and complain when women don't pull their weight in the name of equality. And when they do, men still whine and complain
@@arcatacompanyno he's sober. It's because he's had bad seasons before this and he has quotas to fill. Not only that he has to pay every crew member, repairs, setting up for next fishing season. What caused the tank lid to pop open and let the fish out? Wasn’t bolted down I guess I heard?
Creepy seeing her wearing the Scandies Rose hoodie. RIP.

I prefer black cod over any other types of cod, very expensive but it's well worth it.
I fished black cod of the Washington coast. They could stay alive outta the water for 6hrs
I see that lesson as a bit of giving shit for slacking, and a lesson of what the family used to do.
Jake's future depends on the next off load every episode
They chases light ? Why not put a underwater flashlight in some of the pots and see if they will fill them up more
Why not throw a couple glow sticks in each one and let them have a rave.
That was really cool history man
Every clip I see of Jake his boat his on the line
Imagine feeling like a zombie at sea ground hog day couldn't get worse
