Even though we also know they were our friends), and we do regain strength (how do you think we don't die/get infected when we are attacked?) Going back to Chapter 12 of Book 1, Mr.P says something among "I left you because I thought you were infected". So we allowed Mr.P to test it on us. In Distorted Memory notes, they're all probably there because George was having nightmares about it. The "Memory" Piggy skin is most likely a nightmare-memory version of Penny because of how George is finding out about his family turning infected. I think it's a good theory. :)
